Action on Sugar analysed 131 hot drinks and found a third contained at least as much sugar as a can of Pepsi or Coca-Cola, which contains nine teaspoons.

The charity said in some of the worst cases the drinks contained 20 or more teaspoons of sugar.

Coffee shop chains Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero said they were committed to reducing sugar content in their drinks.

The drinks assessed included flavoured coffees such as mochas and lattes, hot fruit drinks and hot chocolates from coffee shops and fast food chains.

The charity found that 98% of the drinks tested would receive a red nutritional value label for high sugar content.

The recommended maximum intake of added sugar per day for those aged 11 and over is about 30g or seven teaspoons, the NHS says

So along with dodging paying tax in this country Starmucks have joined McD in delivering obesity to Britain, I wish they would all f off home, oh and take the Villa yanks with you.

LOL at Villa Yanks! The problem is he has fcuked off home and not as yet relinquished what he owns here.

Seen about this on the news last night. It is horrifying and with the amount that is sold everyday yup re the obesity. Not something I have very often when I am out nor did before weight loss lifestyle change.

Like I have said before I am a strange 1 who needed to lose weight as alot of the bad thinks like fizzy pop crisps and this sort of thing were never an issue to me as I rarely had them. Good job really else I would have had more weight to lose than I did.

Yeah will they reduce the sugar content with more chemicals to keep the taste. At the end of the day no one (I should hope) puts that amount into their coffee at home so why do the cafe places feel the need to do it in the shops

I was shopping last night and its incredible the amount of sugar in everything. I am trying to reduce it down to a minimum but its true almost anything in a box or bag has sugar in it!

I bought regular Cheerios which still have 1g of sugar in it and I got some breakfast bars but one I will cave and want something but thats still 5g. I am lucky I have a super metabolism I can eat what I want but sugar just jacks your system and I am trying to moderate it.

Personally if actually like coffee you'd stay away from the likes of Starbucks its horrible muck. I like mine black though (no milk or sugar) and I drink my tea with just milk.

Cheerios and breakfast bars! On the whole, breakfast cereals are absolute tat! Whatever happened to a good old bowl of porridge with some fruit chucked in? Or/and some seeded wholemeal with scrambled chick fetuses

20 teaspoons... good God almighty :10:

Oh and a repeat of what I said in another thread... my mate, pretty active fit life, ex army etc, no smoking since his 30's, no drinking at all, he's going in next week for a double heart bypass.

His addiction?

Sugar, loads of it, loads in his coffee/tea, sweets, cakes etc. You'd never tell because he's pretty slim...
