Shaving

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
Blimey, wish I'd done this earlier.

Bought a steam free mirror (cheap as chips on Amazon) and now shave in the shower after warming up the bristles a bit and doing a face scrub to further prepare.

Closest shave I've ever got face and bald bonce but even better, my blades seem to be lasting so much longer. Before I was lucky to get 3 shaves out of them (bearing in mind I do head as well as face) but done at least six on this current blade and I think I will get another one at least out of it.

Ace!

I hate shaving , but my attempts at growing a beard are pathetic . If I could I would never shave and have a beard down to my knees.

My mate said years ago that he shaved in the shower, tried it, have done ever since.

Not shaved since I got our of hospital though, can't be arsed, and society loves a beard now.

If you grow a beard fear you'll be the beard to be feared and an upside down head :103:

I'm currently letting my beard grow in (I normally have goatie but going full face this time......not done that since I was a student about 20 years ago) but still have to shave my head as I don't have enough to have anything other than a comb-over. Shaving in the shower sounds good but always had problems with the mirror (not that that is an issue when only doing the head)

If I start to grow a beard it tends to get patchy. Not shaved for a couple of days and I'm shocked how much is grey now!

I know the feeling. I'm probably about 50-60% grey now. What is left on my head is only 20-30% grey but that is scant consolation for someone who has shaved their head for nigh on 10 years now.

I let it go for 2 or 3 days then I get rid. Any longer and it starts to irritate me... plus it grows grey or silver and that just makes me feel even older when I look at it. If I shaved everyday I would end up ripping my face to bits cos my skin can't deal with that much scraping on a daily basis.

I can grow a beard no problems, I just concenrate for a bit and it's there. Bizarrely I can't grow sideburns though so there's an obvious gap between beard and head hair.

I can grow a beard like currently after a few days its big but trouble is it is ginger ffs, proper ginger beard, it either comes from the Welsh in me off me great grandad i am told the Irish side or the milkman, your guess is as good as mine!

So Clive's ginger and hasn't mentioned aeroplains or trains once in the last couple of weeks........how is this possible?

By the way Clive, pass on my sympathies to your mrs, being married to a ginger is bad enough but you're the worst kind, a stealth ginger.

I am growing this multi coloured Goatee at the mo, just to annoy the Mrs , she says I look like a thug .

on the subject of shaving, I had a badger hair shaving brush last Christmas, it's really good , combined with old fashioned shaving soap and a Mach3. I've given up on the cut throat , I was losing too much blood and bits of chin.

Why not try something like this?

It takes a bit if getting used to, shaving like that looks the same as using a Mach 3 but it's really a different skill. When you have learnt it you get better results and it's kinder to your skin, although it does take a bit longer.

For a diy free (ish) version of a steam free mirror, simply rub sharing foam/gel into the mirror and polish. You will find that our mirror doesn't steam and you just need to redo about once a week

Must admit I've never tried a safety Razor , my Granddad used them , they died out when the Bic razor arrived on the scene . I haven't found anything better than a mach3. Ive tried most of them . It's only the price I don't like.

Until you learn the technique you won't find a safety razor as good either, additionally you need to experiment with different blades to find what best suits your skin type in combination with the razor (all razors are different too with different cutying angles and what they call agressiveness) and beard growth. It took me a couple of moths to put it all together but imo it's worth the effort. When you do get it right it's important to remember that one blade will last 5-10 shaves and only costs about 10p.
