Vital Reserves Team
I really like Shaun Derry and I hope that he ends up having a successful managerial career. It's far too early in the season to make any judgments on any team or manager but seeing Cambridge propping up the Football League did make me wonder whether he will turn out to be a manager who will come in to a struggling club and have a really positive impact in the short term due to the passion that he brings but struggle to maintain those levels of success for longer periods of time.

Only time will tell and I hope that my theory is wrong but expectations at Cambridge were high in the close season and a prolonged poor start to the season could soon see his position under threat.

I'm not convinced that he can handle a full season successfully. We'll have to wait and see, very early days at the moment.

To be fair they have had a tough start to the season and the next 3 games don't look any easier. I can see him under a lot of pressure come the end of september.

He needs a full season to be fairly judged

Totally agree that he needs much more time. As we know all too well, and to our cost, many chairmen don't have the patience required for long term success. The irony is that looking for success in the short term and sacking managers too quickly, more often than not results in short term and long term decline.

There was a lot of talk when he took Spencer when he was released last season, many saying we should have kept him. Well he didn't sign him for this season and he was subbed when we played Plymouth.

I would like to see him do well but not at the pies expence.

Derry is a smashing bloke, all heart and passion. Tactically though he and Abbott always seemed a little bit short.
Cambridge sacked Richard Money quite promptly and I don't think they'll be over generous with Derry with the time he'll be given.
Bottom of Div 2 at any time makes fans and Chairmen jumpy.

Only just seen their result. Getting soundly beaten at home sadly won't help his cause. When things started going wrong for Derry at Notts, he didn't seem to know how to turn it around so I do fear for him but I hope things pick up for him.

I agree to an extent but I am not sure he has the tactical experience to mix things around. He certainly didn't at Notts.

Another home defeat for Derry today and no league win yet this season. I don't think he will be able to survive many more bad results.
