Set pieces

Dont remember him missing too many apart from the most important penalty he missed for us while at sheffield...
He's like a couple of our recent penalty takers, Grabban & Johnson they scored their fair share but never looked convincing even when they scored, MGW is like that to me. When you consider some of the cracking penalties we saw in shootouts in the cup run last season from all sorts of players we have no shortage of candidates to take them

Absolute shite again on Sunday. Get MGW and Anderson off them - they’re both pathetic at them. How’s it possible that nobody in a premier league 11 can take a corner?

I can't recall MGW taking one, but every one of Anderson's was just really poor all game

And there is no bigger frustration than when we play a short corner. The whole ground groans. It is a much bigger chance of a turnover for the opposition than it is for a chance for us.

When he’s not suspended for his goal keeping I’d let Neco have a crack at corners and free kicks as MGW is absolutely embarrassing and Anderson is getting progressively worse

we were lucky not to concede 2 headers against FERENCVAROS.

Anderson 100mill player but in the final 3rd he is mediocre. we might as well just give the goal keeper the ball back every time we get a free kick or corner.

Lately Dominguez runs to first man slot and has got in some decent headers. He is usually marked by a non defender because of his size. He loses his marker. Has even scored. Corner taker must take some credit. Generally though corners have been woeful.

I’m just going to keep bumping this thread to make a point. It’s actually ludicrous. I think people underestimate the impact decent set pieces could have to our league position. If we were as good as Arsenal, we’d actually be mid-table.

Our set pieces aren’t just ‘premier league bad’, they’re the worst I’ve ever seen at any level across any season. It’s an utter embarrassment and I can’t believe a limited coach like Dyche who has relied so heavily on set plays to gain points In his previous clubs has essentially disregarded us getting goals from set plays.. for those defending Dyche, just go ahead and explain that to me? I’m all ears.

Honestly, we’re like a school team letting the best players take set plays in MGW with penalties and Anderson with corners - i Hoped that maybe one of our well paid coaching staff might have both the balls and the brain to seek another player out to take them, but no. Looks like we’re happy for our corners to cause us more threat than a chance at scoring

The other really irritating things are that firstly there is more danger to us from being caught on the break when the “ routine” inevitably goes wrong & second I can remember multiple times over the years when we’ve been caught dozing by other teams short corners leading to goals but we seem
Incapable of doing same thing
Our corners by Anderson kept being long and no one anticipated it.Either he was over kicking them or we didn't have the common sense to have someone attacking at the back post.It is kids stuff and embarrassing.

Even Lucca wouldn't have reached a couple of those corners. Absolutely dreadful.

It’s beyond frustrating as you get a foothold in the play and get a corner etc and then give possession and momentum back. And especially the over hit ones as it seems to stretch things and often means if they pick the ball up they run at us and so our corners become a real danger to us

I can’t explain It and you’re right.
Other people/articles have shown how important set plays are, both in defence and attack.
I think it’s something like a 1/3 of all goals, I can’t remember but it’s significant.
Look how well Brentford do.
It’s certainly a question that should be put to the manager.
Maybe it’s another indication that our players aren’t quite as good as we think they are.
I was surprised we didn’t bring in someone of that ilk on transfer day.

Every team looks dangerous at corners bar us. Its so frustrating .

Sick of seeing anderson trot back chewing gum. Stop taking them please.

We’re second bottom of the league for set pieces xG.

This is one of the things that mystifies me about Dyche: the traits he’s supposed to be good at (set piece work, defensive resolve) we’re just not seeing, game after game.

What is going on?

Nottingham Forest have not scored a direct free kick in the Premier League for several years. The last recorded instance of a Nottingham Forest player scoring a goal directly from a free kick was Tiago Silva on 2 July 2020

Is that date because of Covid ?

Apparently James Garner got one against QPR in 2021 but it was near the corner flag.
