Set pieces

Sorry but making a thread on it

Our attacking set pieces are nothing short of an utter disgrace. Had 5 corners and they were all a joke.

It’s in the territory of unprofessional and amateur. Not a single one of our 11 players capable of putting a static football into a penalty area and beyond the first defender. It’s fucking pathetic and embarrasing at any level, let alone premier league.

If we’re not floating some shitty ball into the keepers arms, we’re taking it short without a single thought as to how to actually get the ball to our players once we take it or chipping it to man on the near post every. Single. Time .
They’re consistently awful and I can’t remember the last time somebody put an actual decent corner in for somebody to attack.

just as bad with free kicks and Anderson, MGW and whoever else should be embarrassed. It’s a serious deficiency in our game and it’s summed up by their winner - dangerous crosses all afternoon that were dealt with well.. until they weren’t. I said in another thread how much of a miss not having somebody at can hit a ball from 20 yards to win us a game and this result amplified exactly that with Cherki.

Not sure what the answer is as I’d expect all 11 professional footballers to be able to kick a ball into a box and to be able to shoot from 20 yards, but apparently not with any of our 8 or so attacking players in the squad

It was a second phase set piece again. It should not have stood. I can't remember being that worried about any of their others.

Hutchinson put a couple short of the first man. None found a Forest player, but Luiz is probably our best set piece guy and didn't play

We are 5th bottom in the league this season for goals scored from set pieces.

Can’t believe we’re that high… we’re awful. I don’t want to suggest the cliche ‘what do they work on in training’ as the defending is often good (first contact), but it’s a vey clear flaw in our game and we shouldn’t underestimate how much of an advantage we waste…. And the second ball defending edge of our box is equally as dogshit. Really not hard to sort either

We've got relatively dominant and dangerous aerial players to attack set pieces too. But the cross itself never causes any kind of concern, usually nodded away by the first defender. It's really piss poor.

But the season before, Forest were also poor, and Elanga was here then. It must be a coaching thing. One of, indeed probably , the reason that Arsenal are doing so well is their threat from set- pieces and the work their set- piece coach does.

But ultimately, I am with Will. Professional footballers should know how to kick a football.
Elanga wasn't taking them the season before . I don't think he was initially last season either. They must have twigged during training that he could whip one in and he started taking them .
I agree all footballers should be able to take a half decent set piece , i've said before that it amazes me how poor some of their shooting is as well , on perfect pitches too.

Oh I see about Elanga. Savona seems able to cross. Perhaps he should get on them.

Its gotten worse recently

Neco should take them and leave Anderson back also Savona is tall and shown he can score so get him in as well and move MGW back as well.

I said before but his total inability to take any kind of set piece & his constant giving the ball away is why MGW won’t play for Ingerland

Worst performance yet for set pieces? Utterly embarrassing yet again. The best one being Luiz kicking if straight out for a goal
Kick. Dyche is inept attacking wise but I thought he might have taught them the ability to cross a static football into a box

Lost my head at that corner. More so than the goals conceded
It makes us look so fucking amateur.
I'm sure we aren't the only team with this problem, I don't pay attention to other teams really, but fucking hell man we should at least have a guy who can consistently hit a corner. What does it say about how overvalued footballers are these days?

Fucking 40 million quid for players who can't hit a consistent corner is absurd to the point of being insulting to the rest of the world.

The other really irritating things are that firstly there is more danger to us from being caught on the break when the “ routine” inevitably goes wrong & second I can remember multiple times over the years when we’ve been caught dozing by other teams short corners leading to goals but we seem
Incapable of doing same thing
