See Scallys gone off on one again

Vince Maple his target this time.

It would have been so much easier if they had released the details of this Medway Council and Gills venture along with the announcement. Everyone could have read it (all interested parties i.e. Medway Council tax payers and councillors) could have read it and made up their own mind.

"you have no idea of the details in the deal" Scally says. Well release them then.

If we have nothing to hide and its as good a deal as you keep suggesting - share the details and we can all congratulate you on the deal.

I don't know whether Scally really considered what he was saying. He and Jarrett go ahead and announce the deal and then he decides to get in a war of quotes with an elected opposition Medway councillor, at the same time as admitting that they (or at least Jarrett) have effectively hidden those details from him.

Scally should be getting on Jarrett's case for not making full disclosure to all elected Medway councillors, and particularly the leader of the labour group, who represent Council Tax payers before making the announcement.

If Scally truly is as non political as he claims in his response he should not be best pleased with Jarrett.

So responding to a politician's letter which was placed in the public demain demanding a response counts as "going off on one again"? And if he didn't respond he'd probably be accused of hiding something.

I would guess he can't release details until he has everything tied up .There is likely to be people employed by the football club as a result of this deal .Possibly filling a hole that the council have left .
My guess is we gain in terms of something to do with scouting or development of players .While filling a void left by the council.

"Hiding something"?? Is this not what the whole thing is about - the actual lack of clarity about what Medway council is actually providing to GFC? Council tax payers have every right to question it IMO because there is at present no meat on the bones. As Markinkent says - tell us the details then we will be happy. Not much to ask is it?

Nothing wrong with responding but the response itself is embarrassing.

Then maybe the elected councillor should have persued this through the council and not directly with Scally and anyone else who needs the information should also demand it from the council.

No benefit in giving any more details - whatever deal he does he will be criticized.

Its a stupid Councillor making an assumption that PS statement was about a comment a Councillor had made when in fact it was not

You obviously do not live in Medway Durham, because if you did you would have an iota of understanding that a huge number of Medway residents namely council tax payers are up in arms about it. All they are asking is clarification of what is being given by Medway Council to GFC as part of the deal and many of them are GFC supporters.

Don't remember him being criticized over the MEMS sponsorship deal, a deal worth over half a million quid over four years according to our deal leader.

Cleary PS didn't think this through before agreeing this deal. If he did, that's even more worrying.

And this deal is for the people of Medway, Shirley he should be getting the best deal for GFC. Let me guess Durham, this is the best deal for GFC.

The councillor was wrong to write direct to Scally; he should have taken it up with the appropriate person at the council.

I would guess as with most things in Medway not many people have any idea this going on.

The councillors are elected so the up in arms residents should demand the information from them. GFC is a private company and unless someone knows different then as far as I know does not have to give an answer.

Interesting that the up in arms residents have so far paid little or no interest in the cuts that have been going on for years lol. Agreed he should have been grtting the best deal for the club but if this was the only sponsorship available and gives more chance of the relocation then maybe it is the best long term option.

Scally was wrong too, he should have sent the letter to the appropriate person at the Council to deal with it.

...that's it in a nutshell as a private company owned by Scally he doesn't have to inform interested parties anything. The Council on the other hand are elected to serve the council tax paying people of Medway. People have a right to see confirmation that no council tax money (or loss of revenue) has come from this deal. If it hasn't then the council has a cracking deal and we haven't. If it has then as tax payers we have every right to question it especially when the bill went up the maximum permitted and services are being cut.

What has anyone got to hide ? Hopefully nothing.

The cloak and dagger stuff is what pisses people off and allows some people to draw their own conclusions.

Anyway Scally and Mapel might need to make friends - he could be the council leader in 12 months time. The unease over this deal might well encourage a few more to get off their backsides and vote the tories out next May.

Scally definitely would’ve been criticised over the MEMS sponsorship at the time it was announced! A small, unknown company, and no word of any details of the deal at the time. You can imagine all the “lack of ambition, cringeworthy” comments.

Sadly, would not hold your breath for people in Medway to rise up and vote. Cuts are not new and not many read the council or gills website lol.
