Sean Dyche appointed

Dyche is doing exactly what id hoped, putting some much needed heart and soul back. Doing it in style too.

Of course we also need results. A win against Porto will really kick this season off properly. Anything other than an abject Postecoglou performance will be an improvement.

My quick take on Dyche is.. great first couple of press conferences and you find yourself really sucked into how passionate he is - it also makes you loathe Ange even more. I’m certainly behind Dyche and the coaching staff and you feel the atmosphere should be great tonight!

The only thing I picked up on is how noncommittal he’s been to pushing the team on. When asked about progression and being successful, he never really once talked about how we wants to make us a top side, just getting stability back.

Now don’t get me wrong, we’re near the bottom and without a win in ages so it’s a fair comment, but I thought he was really setting expectations around not expecting some top half finish with all the journalists asking him… even in the long term he didn’t want to talk about his ambitions for the club.

hope that’s just his way of managing the media, but I do hope he isn’t coming in purely to fire fight with the mindset of finishing 17th

I did notice that as well.

I'm guessing there are two possible reasons

a) he doesn't believe we can finish mid table or top half regularly

b) he doesn't want to heap that kind of pressure on the players when just winning games and pushing out of the relegation zone is the priority.

Both could be true, of course.

I can't remember what Nuno was saying when he first came in- I don't recall him saying much more than "progressing the club" or something like that.

I think it the second one Pope.
Ang came in talking about winning trophies and Dyche is trying to be totally opposite to him. Which is a good thing in my opinion and also very realistic.

He strikes me as quite a smart bloke, so I would suspect that is all expectation management and laying the ground for some steady, if unspectacular, improvements early on.

Isnt this experience showing though?

He knows how tough football is at this level

And surely its a good policy to under promise and over deliver?

One step at a time Will?

Meanwhile Ange over promised and under delivered?

He will have his own targets in mind but will not be stupid enough to start gobbing off about them in the media, and just end up making a rod for his own back.

His focus appears clear enough; get the side organised again, and then start winning games.

If he manages to do that, everything else will fall into place.

I watched the interview . Descriptions I would use are eager, repetitive, overcompensating , self deprecating and humble .

“It’s not about me “ was repeated multiple times.

I’m intrigued to see what formation and personnel he goes with tonight and in particular how and where MgW plays in the formation

Yates in or not?

It's a hoot and right up your street. Wearing stocking and suspenders, and singing about transvestite Transylvanians, is something every beta-male should experience.
I really really liked Rocky Horror. Right up my street that was. No, I'm not bent. xxx

He's finished 7th with Burnley, so surely thats the aim?

Anything less, and its an underachievement.

That will be EM's thought process.

As others have said, he's managing the media & just being realistic, based a real low point that we've found ourselves in - although, he did mention that Forest (under both prior managers) hadn't kept a clean sheet for 20 games.

Hence, in my opinion, no.1 target will be a clean sheet, asap & then build from there (I'd love it if we got that against Bournemouth) .... he knows he has a talented group of players, but that starts with rebuilding the team ethic that we've lost.

He clearly knows how to endear himself to the media/fans & the Forest connections/history from his coaches & him, help with that PLUS the whole 'badge is bigger than me, excluding Brian etc'.

I may be wrong, but I think that Yates may start tonight - local boy skipper & all that & try for the solid foundation, but this is basically a cup match - so that may be less of a priority... we'll see later.

I think its more to do with managing expectations. He will be aware that some of our fanbase will be expecting instant gratification. We more seasoned fans will know it doesn't quite work that way.

He's only been here 48 hours , let's at least give him until the weekend before we proclaim "his shit"
