Score Predictions & Match Thread: Tunisia v England

Someone from the FA will need to ask FIFA what was the reasoning for not giving penalties for the rugby tackles on Kane via VAR; they need to be reviewed, not for England's sake, but to improve the system for future matches.
And to question why it’s ok for the likes of Exeter to grab a handful of Matt Rhead’s shirt to hold him down but an England defender isn’t allowed for his hand to brush against a Tunisian.

And, more to the point, its acceptable in the same match for a Tunisian to wrap Kane and Maquire up in bear hugs and throw them to the floor.

Played well first half and should have been three of four up. Struggled second but that’s partly as a result of Tunisia’s cynical tactics. A win is all that matters at this stage and I just don’t understand some of the negativity towards what is a young group of players.

We got out of jail tonight. A good first 20-30 minutes compounded by awful finishing. The negativity comes from seeing England fluff their lines tournament after tournament. Yes we should have been out of sight by the time they scored but typically we were not and then produced a turgid 2nd half, creating nothing. You cannot miss the chances we did and expect to win. Somehow we did. Young players or old they should be able to perform at that level. Lingards four misses and Sterlings shocking display - nerves or lack of quality when it really matters?? We had a lack of creativity behind Kane, and Southgate should have changed it earlier.
If we are resorting to Ashley Young taking free kicks we really are scraping the barrel. From Beckhams class to that!
But a wins a win and onwards we go. However changes have to be made. This is the World Cup. Either you step up like Platt or maybe it's not for you. This is a post from an avid England fan, whose optimism is shot.

Wasn't too disappointed for a WC opening match, which are traditionally a struggle. The main thing that irked me was the lack of finishing quality by anyone other than Kane - particularly Sterling & Lingard. They should have buried at least two or even three of those and we should have been at least 3 - 1 up at HT. This is the WC and you have to be more clinical withrelatively easy chances or you will be out. I thought there was some good movement and inter-play at times. Have to say, Stones actualy impressed me, but I'll rserve judgement until he plays a better team.

Very promising start, especially in the opening stages. The best teams in the world have also struggled in their opening fixtures. Don’t personally feel sterling and Lingard were as bad as some seem to think. Having said that, I’d like to see a little rotation against Panama.

World-beaters for 25 minutes, when we should have been 3 up :for the rest of the match, also-rans. Can only imagine our inept finishing knocked the stuffing out of us. Finally, Kane managed to break free from the rugby tackling with an intelligent header, to wrap up a win we deserved, but those last 65 minutes have not dampened my pessimism. Lingard clearly not yet up to it and should be replaced by Loftus-Cheek. Sterling excels at running down blind alleys. Ashley Young, the free kick specialist, really?

They weren't - some people just have ridiculously high expectations.

We found a way to win and in the end that’s what matters. The 3 pts put us in an excellent position to qualify from the group and then we’ll see what happens.

Seriously!

What is wrong with some people? England won for goodness sake! I just cannot believe how negative some people can be even when England win.

We have some Americans from our sister company over here at the moment and both of them have remarked only in this country would so many people be so negative when their national team wins! No on else in the World gives a toss how they play or win so long as they win! While it's nice to play well the be all and end all is winning!

They reckon that's why we underachieve so much in sport as a nation because we and our sporting teams have a pessimistic view and do you know what they are correct!

No one remembers how teams played when they won The World Cup they only remember the winners! The Germans won Itaila 90 but we arguably had the best team, nut the record doesn't say that, it says the Germans won!

England won let's celebrate! Another 6 wins on the trot and we win The World Cup!:wahey:

Why do we have a right-footed player at left-back? Surely there must be a decent left-footed left-back out there somewhere in the country?

Not who can deliver a ball effectively. Rose is next in line at left back and he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo when it comes to crossing a ball. Although at one point when the Tunisian player galloped the length of the pitch down his flank Young did a fair impression of Pulis' son by actually moving away from the man with ball.

When they pressed us first half we looked good (in fact excellent) when they banked up and played for a point it was the same old story, completely unable to break the opposition down. Oh and as for finishing? Well you heard it hear a few days ago. Sterling, unfortunately, cannot finish at international level (his effort early on when blown offside was positively Sunday League). We don't have any more spare games to allow him to find his club form in that regard and for that reason Rashford has to start imho..

We do. Rose is in the squad. We left Bertrand at home too. Then our best left back’s manager refuses to play him at club level and will hopefully move on from Man Utd. Plus Cresswell is a goodbye option.

Well for those people who say no one is interested in the England team anymore they should read this.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44533213

21.3 million people either watched it or streamed it last night making the most watched event on TV in this country for 2018 easily surpassing the 17.6 million that watched the royal wedding!

we had three right backs on the pitch. although one of the right backs is actually a winger, so we play him at left wing back. a heavily right footed centre back playing on the left side. everyone in front of the defence is right footed. one left footed player - the keeper - in a position where it doesn't matter. on the evidence so far, panama don't look like the side to expose any of this though. and if we beat them, belgium should be a free practice match. last 16 will be the first chance to see how good/bad our defending is. from the last two friendlies, and on the tiny bit of pressure the tunisinians put on us, it would still be rating our defending as *nervy-panicky*.

our possible last sixteen opponents come from today's group... poland, japan, colombia, or senegal. it ill be interesting to see if there are two decent attacking teams.
