Saving Money & Tips

Wasn't sure which thread to put this, so why not here!

Interest rates might be set to fall again.

Good news for those in debt, awful news for those with investments.

Santander 123 account is being ruined come May. Interest used to be 3% then 1.5% but soon 1% plus capping cashbacks. Still charging £5 a month though. I'll be moving, probably to the one that is offering £175 to move, HSBC I think it is, got it bookmarked via a Martin Lewis advice page.

Yep, me too. Shocking isn't it? Just won't be worth it any more.

Martin Lewis has written it off as a dead duck now. I've made around £1300 over the years with it, but I won't stick around now, I would have if they hadn't capped the cashbacks.

Might go to the light to gain on some cashback, but will be moving to another bank as well

Just checked. I'm just shy of £2000 earned, less the fiver a month fee which wasn't always a thing and was less not so long ago.

Cashback will be around £8 a month less and certainly if I clear my mortgage soon, which hopefully I will be, it will probably cost me more than it earns, or only make pennies.

Saved a fortune today, partly by being nice, clear and firm!

Rung Sky to say I needed to re-negotiate or more likely cancel broadband and telephone. She said, despite the rest of my contract not being up until June, she would look at all my sky package. Surprised, thought I had to wait for the rest.

I've gone from - with the rises next month - nearly £140 for tv, broadband, telephone to £85.

But the really good bit is it now includes my mobile (sim only, £4.50 - I am currently paying £34 on an 02 call plan, I really didn't concentrate when I did that deal!) AND netflix is also in this amount, so I no longer pay £8.99 extra.

Stunning savings and very necessary. Been looking forward to this challenge, ended up a lot easier than I'd expected. I thought I'd end up cancelling and then being enticed back!

*********

Also downgraded by Santander 123 to 123 Lite. I'll make £8.03 a month on that, rather than £5 on the pretty much ruined 123.

Shame, I've made over £2000 on that account since I signed up for it. But now they have capped all the cashback and interest rates have plummetted.

All in all, a very good day.

Goodness me, bought the Aldi razor and razor blades the other day. The razor was £3.49 (50p off) and the blades £3.99 (£1.00 off). 5 blade things. Best shave I've ever had. Just stunning.

Also bought a razor pit, so hopefully each blade will last longer as well.

I do a lot of surveys to earn a few extra pennies. The other day, for the first time, I was able to tick the box:

Home owned outright (no mortgage)

:wahey:

I do alot of surveys too! Usually get about £70-£100 a year on them. Buys some Christmas presents each year

Just worked out I have earned £210 since the start of this year on surveys. £50 was youguv so some of that would also include some surveys at the end of last year.

Still good though. Am checking and culling some, that don't bring in enough.

I have just cancelled maximiles, you get points towards rewards, I've just ordered some suncream as there was nothing else that was of use, and closed the account. The amount of time wasn't worth the reward.

I have made £34 so far with this lot:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/make-money-surveys/

https://www.swagbucks.com/ you can get easily pushed off a survey, but have earned £55 plus got 3 GQ for £1

These add up well: https://social.i-say.com/

Earned £15 so far and up to £9 in my account on their panel

This one will be a slow burn, but you can stack up the surveys and it pays out at £50. If I get that once a year, for the amount of surveys, it will be worth it. https://www.newvistalive.com/Welcome.aspx?returnurl=/

I would AVOID this one. So much work and ended up with just £7.80 Really not worth the amount of surveys I did, in fact, bit disgraceful really

This one is under review, as seldom get a survey so earned nothing yet https://www.populuslive.com/Home.aspx

Just renewed our gas and electricity with EDF who we were already with. They offered a deal which was cheaper than the one we had plus
a £50 Amazon voucher , so I checked with Martin Lewis's energy club and they came out towards the top , so win win.

Yes, did the same a while back, off their one deal to their new one and got the Martin Lewis cashback. Turns out EDF are the lowest for carbon emissions as well I read the other day. Forget where I read it now though!

Panelbase is my main survey forum that I get on with the best. I've learnt a few hundred or so with them over the years.

Switched my gas and electric last night, EDF were cheapest but having a smart meter installed was mandatory which I don't want, so gone with Scottish power.
