...Jermaine McGlashen and Josh Wright. According to someone on Facey anyway.

Not starting a "would we want them back" thread. But just a couple of ex-Gills so thought it might be interesting.

I’ve read on Twitter that had Josh played one more game for Southend this season he would have qualified for another year on his contract so was frozen out when he reached twenty games. He’s had a couple of spells out injured and described this season as his most frustrating.

Don’t want him back here personally. Doesn’t look like Southend fans were overly impressed.

Bit surprised there are so many of these appearance related contract renewals .Young star apart perhaps . I can't see there will be a lot of advantage to the club .There is very little point in signing a player that is desperate to leave anyway .From a player view point resigning for a manager who does want you sounds like a real bonus to guys like JET and McCammon but them apart it is no way to start a new contract. Not that there was ever a likelihood of them reaching a appearance target .Unless it was set near to Zero .

There are a couple of people on Twatter who absolutely cream themselves about Wright coming back, and I just don't understand it. He was one of the better players in what was a very poor squad, but he really isn't as good as he's made out to be.

Not better than what we have most of the time .Both players have had the odd purple patch .But give the chance to sign Reilly or Wright there really is no contest .

Because he once scored 14 goals in a regressive side then he will start scoring in Dack like proportions under a more progressive manager like Lovell.

You mean there Reilly is no contest?

Sadly I have heard that being a northern lad, he has indicated he would rather stay around the Bury area than to move down south on a more permanent basis. If he doesn't stay at Bury then he'll probably end up at Rochdale or someone like that.

Wright is unlikely to come back but he did create and score which we are sadly lacking but Lovell must know that.

I'd have McGlashan back. Very exciting player. Had falling out with Edinburgh I heard, which wasn't difficult!

On a few occasions McGlashan came on and turned the game around when we were losing. Very exiting when he was up for going past his man down the wing. Just needed the confidence to go for it all the time, as defenders hated him running at them due to his pace.
Could be a great super sub again under Lovell.

Over the years we’ve struggled to get a decent partnership out of our group of midfielders - too often we play too many similar players and without any worthwhile progression through midfield we usually end up bypassing it. We’ve got to recruit players in the positions which enable us to have a strong Plan A and Plan B this time.

Ex-Gills watch: Barry Fuller released. John Akinde to be sold following Barnet’s relegation, according to media.

And GFC Gems just tweeted “GFC GEMS YES YES YES”...

I also don’t understand the hype. He was good. He scored a lot of penalties in one season. But I’m sure that he was one of the ‘bad eggs’ that Pennock spoke about and we don’t need that.
