Russia opposition leader shot dead outside the Kremlin

Pride of Lions

I am now official
Boris Nemtsov, the leader of the opposition party has been shot dead outside the Kremlin.

A critic of Putrid Putin's actions towards and in Ukraine, this can only stoke up the tensions in some quarters in Russia I feel......

The trouble is the propaganda over in Russia is convincing them we are the problem.

I did think that in this day and age of the Internet, more information would be widely available, but Putin has managed to convince most that he is right.

Very worrying times indeed. Fra more of an issue than ISI, for example.

Was reading this morning Putin is threatening to turn our gas off where we get 50% of our Gas on any given day, if Ulkraine fail to pay what Putin is demanding in the next four days he will turn off the pipes fromGAZPROM which will cause mass shortages of Gas all across Europe.

I'm afraid events are playing out the way they do before a World War. Putin is a dangerous individual. Someone like Mugabe or Kim Jong Un, are evil oppressive tyrants because they have little power outside their own country, and are protected by the fact they have nothing to offer the world, in contrast to someone like Saddam Hussein who had too much influence over oil supplies, hence he was removed.

Putin has an army of 3/4 of million people, with a reserve force of 2.5 million, proper scary power, especially with that nut job at the helm. He's invaded The Ukraine, he's tripled military manoeuvres and now he's taken out his opposition, sending a message to any who dare to stand against him.

He changed the constitution to allow him to stay in power, only people that crave power do such things, the older he gets the more he might want to leave a nasty mark somewhere in the world.

Totally agree face dude. All the media attention seems to be elsewhere, but this has been building for years.

I feel for the Countries bordering Russia. I am certain his first goal will be to form the USSR again.

Luckily Putin will be heading up the investigation of this personally so should get some results.

Can't be too long til the tinfoil boys are along - got to be the US of A responsible innit

Scary stuff, some people worry about China, but I see the Chinese as being more interested in becoming an America, they aren't perfect by a long chalk, but they aren't the threat that some think they are.

It's a shame because Russia had a couple of down to earth Leaders in Gorbachev and Yeltsin, but this guy is more like the early Russian leaders, with his secret armies and now this? Shades of Stalin?

Funnily, it was only about a week ago that a tory minister claimed Putrid Putin was more dangerous than Hitler.... or something like that.

Personally, I think that minister wasn't far short of the mark......

Born in a different age we would probably already be at war. Starting a worldwide conflict these days is a lot more complex, I couldn't even begin to imagine what the Russians are thinking. But they have the second largest army on the planet and the second most nuclear weapons on the planet.

I cannot believe someone on QT last week, oh yes that berk who's in charge of North Britain now, she wants us to get rid of our nuclear weapons, what kind of lunacy would that be?

VLADIMIR Putin has described starting a war with Russia as an "apocalyptic scenario".

And the Russian president seems quick to ward off any potential Ukraine attacks.

When asked if war was on the horizon, he replied: “No one wants conflict on the edge of Europe, especially armed conflict.

"I think that such an apocalyptic scenario is unlikely and I hope this will never happen.”

Yet despite Putin's claims of minimal warfare, EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, believes the war has already begun in Ukraine.

Well you gotta admit Putin is really really clever ay he, i mean who day think nuclear powers battling in war would end up killing the world off,,,wow amazing interlect Putin.

It's interesting that Putin suddenly became a bad guy after the US spent $5bn to overthrow a pro-Russian government in Ukraine and replace them with a pro-Western government.

Personally, I like him. He looks like a right laugh when he gets going. I bet he has a portrait of himself on a horse.

I often wonder why the world hates freedom so much. Whether it's those crazy North Koreans developing totally unnecessary nuclear weapons or Iran doing the same. The Chinese, who knows what those guys are up to? And then the Arabs are always at it. There is always some general in Africa giving it the biggun. Pakistan! And then Afghanistan, those guys hate freedom. Those socialists in South America are always 'disappearing people and having revolutions, the nutters.

It seems to me that everywhere in the world that's not 'The West' just hates freedom and are always trying to start wars. Crazy bastards!

I see your point BB, but surely the people of Ukraine have the final say? I know that the US and EU have been trying to stir it up a bit, but if they want to join the EU, then that is for Ukraine to decide, not Russia.

The irony there, Heath, is all of the South American countries who elected socialist governments over the past 100 years. Would the US accept a pro-Russian Mexican government?

Would you rather live by western values or Russian? North Korea maybe? How about living in Zimbabwe? There was a great documentary about those in Zimbabwe struggling to have their voices heard, whenever they got a group together for a 'free' discussion, Mugabe's soldiers were there to make sure there wasn't too much freedom going on.

Fuck me, I know we aren't perfect in the west, not by a very very long way, we have plenty of issues with unbalanced wealth in our own country, but our standard of living provided by our governments are vastly superior to others.

Doesn't give you right to barge into a country and take control of it though. Many Ukrainians, especially in East and South are pro-Russian & have little connection with European culture.

Well, Cuba is the measure of what they will do, but Ukraine has had elections, and they decided, not the US. Surely we should respect that?

$5bn would easily buy you a US election, nevermind the Ukraine. You could probably but every election in Europe for that.

My problem with it is that we go poking around in countries where we seem totally unaware of the forces at work and end up creating horrific situations for the people there. The Ukraine, Libya, Iraq, Syria, the list is endless.

I'm not suggesting that we'd be better off under Putin. I'm suggesting that the Ukrainians, Lybian, Syrians, Iraqis and almost every other country in the world would be better off without the west constantly tinkering in their affairs and then leaving them to fight off the lunatics who emerge.
