Rule Changes Being Discussed

Not really '100% Villa' and not 'Other Clubs' as such, but thought it was worth putting out there in this forum, as not too many Vital Villans seem to visit 'Open Terrace'. Article on some prosed rule changes being kicked around by FIFA.

Including:

Reducing matches to 30-minutes each way and stopping the watch every time the ball is out of play, linked to a stadium clock;

Allowing players to take corners, goal kicks and free-kicks to themselves;

Not allowing follow-ups to saved penalties;

Changing the format of penalty shoot-outs to an ABBA format - team A goes first, then team B take two penalties and then team A takes it second. Apparently, taking the second penalty in each 'round' puts undue pressure on the second kicker. (Eh? Not if the first player has already missed, surely?)

Thoughts?? :37:

Personally apart from goal-line technology I don't want the rules changed, I'm all for someone saying to the ref "no contact he went down, professional foul send him off" but as for the 60 minutes stopping the clock bollocks, this could happen now but the actual match time would run into hours.

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.

Exactly. I like American Football, but the matches take the thick end of 3 hours on the basis of stopping the clock every few seconds.

I'm happy enough for the ref's watch to link to the stadium clock, and to stop for time wasting, injuries etc. But otherwise, nope. Not for me Clive.

How about we have the managers running on the pitch making the "TIME OUT" symbol with their hand so they can drag all the players off the pitch for a conference just before the opposition take a free kick!!

As long as Brucey is not allowed to do that - his team talks seem to be of the Sven Goran Eriksson variety and everything turns to shite in the second half :3:

Sure, why not.

While we're at it, instead of goals have basketball hoops. And 37 players on each side. On a 10ft x 6ft marshmallow pitch. Refereed by mechanical badgers.

One positive of reducing the match time is that we would no longer keep conceding goals in the 85-90th minute :3:

Sadly, would be in the 55-60th minute, but hey ho, would be a novelty :2:

The problem with modern football isn't the rules. I firmly believe that FIFA only come out with this nonsense to give themselves something to do.

Load of shite.

Sort out the racism, cheating, the millions going to agents and out of the game, the inequality between the have and have not clubs, corrupt officials, bent owners, homophobia .....

No let's fuck about with taking corners to ourselves.

Football's fine. It's the same set of rules, mainly, in the 10th tier as the 1st. It's international. Don't mess with it. It isn't the problem. The proposals would ruin an already damaged game.

As said above, other stuff is a massive problem.

The International Football Association Board are investigating a variety of rule book changes when it comes to the future of football.

fed up to the back teeth with fifa eufa fa and everybody else pissing about with our game, fuck of, bunch of useless amatures leave us alone and stop trying to justify your existence. No not in favour.

I wonder what would happen if the FIFA were told to 'do one', by every club in the world and they then set up another governing body, along the lines of boxing.

I have often wondered that 1958 and can only assume that fifa must have some legal contracts in place to stop it happening. I think they have probably got ownership of all the international tournaments and got some legalities in place with national FA organisations. It would be great to see fifa given a bloody nose.

I'd like the refs given more help by some form of tv replay. Works well in other sports, enhances them actually.

The argument against technology is that it should be the same game at all levels from under 11s in the park to the World Cup. Having goal line technology and TV replays would be impossible at grass roots levels.

Perhaps that view is old fashioned but football is beautiful because of its simplicity.

Yup, realise that, trouble is so much pressure and so much money riding on top level games now, it would just make sense - like other sports do - to separate the professional leagues and non leagues for things like this.

I've always thought that's a terrible argument against technology. Other sports such as rugby use video technology, yet that doesn't go the whole way down to amateur level, so why would football be any different.

Agree with Fear, professional and amateur sports should be separated in this case. For instance, maybe in English football it would be brought in at League Two level. I know there are some professional clubs in the National League, but it would make sense to bring it in at the lowest level of the EFL.

If a league / competition wants to adopt the technology and can afford it then they should be able to opt in (or opt out). That's how goal line technology is used across different competitions at the moment, as far as I'm aware (e.g. Premier league opts in, FL and FA cup opt out).
