Ross Barkley

If Ross Barkley leaves Everton, which looks highly likely then, in percentage terms what would you say they were of him joining Tottenham Hotspur?

It's probable, but i'd prefer he didn't.

He's overhyped, imo.

I'd have to agree, would be a decent addition to our squad, but unless he improved significantly suspect he wouldn't automatically nail down a starting place - guess we'll see soon enough.. :10:

He would improve the squad for sure - I would take him

I'm a big fan and if Poch thinks he can get the best out if him then I'd he all for it. Him and Dele could cause teams a whole load of trouble behind Kane

Talented player. Loads of improvement left in him. Under Poch I could see him going up another level.

However at this time he is not good enough to start in our first 11. Alli, Eriksen are ahead of him.

Them 3 together in the same side is unbalanced.

Imagine a quartet of Barkley, Alli, Eriksen and Kane. There is zero natural pace/speed there, none of them are natural dribblers. None of them go past players with natural pace and guile. For us to go to that next level we need a Hazard type player.

We need a different type of first team player, he just isn't that guy. If we sell Lamela and Sissoko, and he is happy with being a bench warmer then I would be up for this deal. He would be more than good enough back up for Eriksen and Alli. I can't see him being happy with that.

RD, I am not sure we are seeing the same things. We have no player like Barkley. None.

Barkley is a superb dribbler and goes past players with ease. He doesn't dribble sideways but rather takes a very direct approach. His dribble stats are insane for the sort of dribble he produces - he has a much higher dribble% than any of our attacking players.

He is also a lot faster than Kane/Eriksen and he seems to accelerate much faster too, so I dont get why you raise that as an issue. Sure, he isnt Rose/Walker, but he has the right pace.

I'd take Barkley any day of the week.

Was going to say his dribbling is his biggest asset from what I've seen.

I think he must mean he isn't a pacey dribbler on the wing sort which is what many believe we lack. I too would take Barkley but see him as competition for Eriksen and Alli, not a starter in our preferred system.

He is a good player Pollo. But he is not as good as you are making out. He is very inconsistent.

He has some dribbling skills, but he is not a natural wide dribbler. He is a central player just like Eriksen and Alli. He has good acceleration he does not have natural pace.

So if all 3 played then we would have 3 players behind Kane who are all at their best in a central position.

How is that a good idea? It isn't, all that would happen is our first 11 would be unbalanced.

Don't we need players that are more centrally oriented when playing with wing backs?

agree 80, .......so better we get a forward, not another midfielder IMO

We have Winks, Mouse Ericsen Wanyama Ali

..plus shitsokko and Lameduck as well of course...unless we get rid of these 2 then a Barclay type may be a good bet...

RD, inconsistent compared to whom? Our attacking players can teach the rest of the league something about inconsistency, and they don't play for Everton who are having a roller coaster season.

Yet compared to our AMs (Eriksen/Ali/son) his key passes and chances created are very close to those of Eriksen and higher than Son/Ali, he has 7 assists (Son and Ali combined 6), more successful dribbles than any and with far more success(25% more on average). His defensive stats are on par with the rest(more blocks/interceptions, and if you take a look at the second part of the season he is actually ahead.

And to me, the most important thing, is that he has balls. He may have crap games, but you wont see any spineless performances like some of our players produced this season.

Put Barkley in a Spurs shirt with proper coaching and Eriksen will have to up his game to see the pitch(or play as a CM, but Poch wont have that).

Sissoko, Son and Lamela can make way.

A couple of forwards would be nice. Get rid of Son and bring in two forwards. It would give us the depth we need. We don't need a Harry replacement we need players that fit. And we need better goal distribution amongst our players.

Fair point on our players as they are inconsistent. When I have seen him play, in the main he has been pretty average. Maybe just pot luck of the games I have seen. I can see talent in there though.

If we dropped Eriksen or Alli to CM and played Barkley with one of Alli/Eriksen and a player like Redmond behind Kane then it could work. Just not Eriksen, Alli, Barkley as the attacking 3.

Don't we need players that are more centrally oriented when playing with wing backs?

When playing with 3 out and out CB's in the main then yes. As Walker and Rose will dominate the wider areas. If we play more like we did last season then no.

We could still have at least one player who is more naturally gifted playing wider in a wing back system. As long as that player had the ability to play centrally as well. There are players around like that. Redmond, Boufal, Ghezzal, Deulofeu. Other teams smaller than us are finding these players so we can get them with good scouting.

I think it's obvious relying on the wing backs for pace and width only has made us easy to play against and pretty boring to watch at times. Another weapon in the final third of the pitch would make us better.

Currently our attacking 6 players are Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Sissoko, Onomah. We know that the depth in that area of the pitch has been our achilles heel all season. Every week we expect Alli and Eriksen to be the difference but we need to realise that sometimes they won't be. Son's stats deceive and Lamela has been injured all season. In fact he cost us a fortune and has one good season out of four.

Yesterday, I thought Son was again poor and Alli was out of order as he kept giving the ball away in dangerous areas and allowing Saints to counter. If Spurs had Redmond and Barkley in our squad then we'd be at another level. I agree that they can't all play at the same time but there are enough games to keep them all happy. Redmond played better than any of our lot yesterday. As for Barkley, I can see the argument that he's not been consistent, but would counter that is what Koeman has been working on the most. The last 10 game he's been very consistent and I'm hoping as an England fan that now becomes the norm.

They would be my main 2 targets in the summer. I also thought that Janssen's cameo yesterday was fantastic. He was in their face and winning free-kicks high up the pitch to slow the game down when we only had the one goal cushion. He really helped us close out the game after watching Son be mostly ineffective.

Agreed Janssen was smart and strong and got the job done. I assume Poch told him to see the game out and hopefully he gained a little more trust from MP for doing so effectively.

Thought his shot was alright and whilst a clever pass to Alli could have set up a goal it wasn't a guarantee the ball would make it through with the position of the defenders. He hit it hard, on target at the top corner and forced a decent save.

Would like to see him lead the line for more of the match next time out and bring Son on when opposition legs are tiring (or start him wide and play both of them)

Poch has said Janssen will get more game time with Kane out. Which is better than being frozen out as some suggested on here.

Apparently he has been working very hard in training. He hasn't found his feet and could be a slow burner. Both he and Winks injected some much needed energy yesterday.

To me, it just reiterates what I believed and said when we first bought him; we'd bought him sooner that we wanted to and that we'd probably not see the best of him until next season or the latter stages of this...
