Well Swann was World Class, and we won't see an equivalent for another generation. Ali and Leach are pretty decent but need handling better.

Pace bowling transition from Anderson and Broad looks like it is being dealt with ok.

It's the batting that's the problem. And the overall approach to Test cricket. Which isn't going to get any better with the Hundred.

Agreed. It would seem test cricket is not a priority any more in this country.

I shall probably not watch the Ashes for the first time ever. I can't see anything other than 5-0 and repeated hammerings in 2 1/2 - 3 days for England.
 
New Zealand with much lower resources in many ways seem to find a way to be successful in long and short forms of the game, so shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.
