think it is 22. 21 discounting mccombe. 20 discounting habergham injured. agree still too small. 2 more loans off the current cowley targetlist and we have a serious promotion chasing squad.

The ideal squad size (22 - 23 with all players capable of adding value) now seems very achievable with a few weeks of the loan market remaining. Even perennial cynics like myself have to fancy our chances this season!

The 'outs' in midfield shows how difficult we had it last season trying to find what we wanted, particularly out wide and Knott.

It certainly shows on paper that we are in credit from those moves. The midfield to striker ration ins/outs seem a bit out of kilter at first glance but you could argue Andrade for Arnold, Luque for Stewart and McCartan for Knott or Whitehouse are a more balanced representation.

The 'outs' in midfield shows how difficult we had it last season trying to find what we wanted, particularly out wide and Knott.

That was where the dead wood was - Knott drinking in a Rochdale hotel; Stewart apparently training but doing little else; Arnold in Nepal.

And remember that Danny signed his replacement midfielders in the January window - Tom Pett, Ellis Chapman and Lee Frecklington. Therefore not much attention was needed in that area during the summer window, influenced only by the departure of Woodyard.

i think we had something like 11 midfielders and 3 strikers during the 2nd half of last season, so it was right that the some re-balancing would take place.
