Remembering Ali Benarbia - City legend?

[Buzz Lightyear]

I was scanning Newsnow Manchester City and came across this piece on Ali Benarbia by Alex Horlock

I remember Ali with much admiration, as I was at his debut for City against Birmingham and it was obvious that he could not speak English because he was like Macmanapoinalotman, the difference between the two was that Ali was magic.

a good read and a bit of reminiscence for those who saw him play.

He was a superb player and I remember many City fans wishing that we had managed to bring him to the club earlier in his career. I seem to recall it was only Kevin Keegan asking him that made him join us and I think he actually turned up to play his first match for us having forgotten his boots (although I may have dreamt that).

He played some sublime passes but the one which I can still see in my minds eye was against Gillingham Away when he back-heeled the ball into the path of Shaun Goater for him to volley home. Outstanding :021:
