<p>....and often deservedly so but are those that are so quick to criticise and condemn just as quick to acknowledge and give credit where it's due?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img border="0" src="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/598435_10151848718011942_1409815661_n.jpg" alt="" class="spotlight" /> <br /></p>

In general the negative only makes news: positive news doesn't sell. We who are of faith know how much good is done in the name of Jesus/Christianity all round the world in missionary as well as at home. It isn't newsworthy mind.

Had seen those news articles before. Great examples of faith working together and that it does happen. It is always the few that make it bad for the majority.

It's like saying all football fans are hooligans: no they aren't. Only a few that are which cause the average conscientious that it is all, when it isn't.

Thanks for the topic VOTN

Those who practice what they preach are cool with me.

Plenty don't and it has through the years been used in very controlling ways. I'll not go further on my thoughts of the evil Catholic empire as I've said it before. The Vatican is an axis for evil, of that I have no doubt.

Your illustrations Ian, I would imagine everyone would agree, is exactly what religion and faith under any label should be.

A thread that has to point out that some Believers actually do do what they are supposed to anyway? The fact you even need to point it out just shows where we are on this one.

Or perhaps the reality of the situation is that those that do what they are supposed to do don't get the coverage in the media and as a result ALL religious people get tarred with the same negative brush in some people's minds.

Must admit, I think things like that should be pointed out, not just about religion, the news is very much slanted to horrifying us. There has to be good things happening in the world, I would like to hear about them more, otherwise life can become very very oppressive and you can start to feel very weighed down.

Perhaps we should start our own internet based TV news channel, a competitor to CNN, we could call it GNN (Good News Network), focusing on the rays at the end of the proverbial tunnels and the human spirit stories that uplift people and encourage us to all go on. Well it's a nice idea to dream about anyway.

Religion has caused more war and more terror than anything else.

I dont agree with this...

I see it as excuse for those that commit sin - which in my belief "every" human has within us.

Its easy just to say that a particular bad act is down to religion, yet we witness "bad acts" every day, in differing parts of the world and by all different types of humans.

Good acts - are they the result of religion also? Or again is it something we witness by anyone and anywhere?

Its like blaming money, greed, power as well - the only blame is the individual(s) committing the bad acts. - Which again resides within us as a species. - which is very well explained in the bible, the why's. how's and where's.

How can you not agree. You only have to look at the holy wars to kick off that as a fact.

Religion, for me, is man made and some use it for good, others bastardise it.

No different to other philosophies really. Communism under Lenin had started to evolve as a social experiment, Stalin then came in and took all the controlling parts of it and used it to quash freedom.

Man will always be foolish!

Holy wars or racist wars? whan you break it down its just one group v another group...When I was school we had fights with the neighbouring school - humanity is like this. The birth of sport is about one group of humanity trying to be better than the other group..

The holy stuff is just an excuse for how we are as a species. Take the Holy away we will still do the things we do..

I think those of us against organised religion have made it very clear, on a number of occasions, that religious people are not the problem.

You may have Bob, which I respect, but I don't think you can accurately speak for everyone on this. It would be nice if you could though :17:
