Redevelopment/Refurbishment underway

Vital 1st Team Regular
I went past Sincil Bank earlier and there was scaffolding being put up at the back of the the St Andrews stand.

There was a hoist taking off the Greenlinc sign on the back of the stand and a large cherry picker elevated platform with a people at the top cleaning and spraying the back of the stand all in preparation for painting I guess.

Also I went by after seeing it for a closer a look and netting has been installed under the roof as well.

Exciting times.

Can anyone remember during the close season before 87/88 looking forward to/not to the forthcoming GMVC campaign and the new St Andrews being built.

We thought at the time it was a statement of intent, but it only ran half the length of the pitch, albeit plonked in the middle.

Yes, I remember approaching the entrance to the Railway End and seeing the top part of the new stand for the first time and thinking, "Gosh, that's big!" But then getting into the ground, "... oh, but it's not very long."

Remember it clearly, thought it was fantastic at the time.

The St Andrews Stand was originally intended to be longer with a higher seating capacity (similar to the stand it replaced) and contain executive boxes, but the plans were dramatically downsized following relegation in 1987. It still cost close to £1m even in its reduced state, which is the equivalent of around £3m today - quite a commitment from a club entering the non-league wasteland.

Last time I sat in that stand was for the home game with Cheltenham just before relegation in 2011. I always thought that despite it's awkward length the overall spec was quite good with lots of leg room and walking space. Perhaps slightly OTT from a safety point of view because of our firsthand experience of Bradford.

I always opt to sit in that stand now since the Stacey west was an away end, I like how much of the game you can see from not being so far from the pitch, seems a lot easier to get out of at the ejd of a game as well

I've always liked that. What would you estimate the capacity of that stand to be? I think its around 1,700 at the moment. Perhaps double?
Capacity of the current St Andrews is approximately 1,500 but it will increase with the new seating going according to what Jason Futter said at the forum. Given it's about a third of the touchline atm I guess it would add 3,000 maybe a tad more.

I reckon we would be around 14,500 to 15,000 with the current capacity increase in the offing which I think if we can establish ourselves in the Championship would be about right I think.

100% the St Andrews stand has been considered I suspect. Not sure how imminent as you would sense naturally that would suit the corporate area?

I do agree 14-15000 helps to sustain a championship side. But flirts with being too big if we do fall again.

I did this 4 years ago as a bit of fun but something like this would really finish off Sincil Bank nicely.

Good work. Obviously wants less stairways and preferably less view-restricting stanchions; but the principle is there.
Surely worth employing an architect to at least sketch a design that reflects modern regs. As mentioned by others, design could allow the existing stand to remain in place while at least part of the development takes place.
New boxes with outside seating below?
All a bit of a pipe dream, but it would be nice to see a semi-realistic architect/artist impression.

Hopefully we can keep this as an update thread as and when there's news/photos.

Just a reminder of what's being done Club wide this summer:

Bigger and undercover fan zone area
600(?) additional seats across the stadium
New open plan corporate area
1x big screen in the stadium
2x big screens in the fan zone
Coffee shop (Huddle) for the 5G pitch users
New floodlights
New PA system
New interactive activity area
New community area
SW seats replaced
Greenlinc Renewables seats replaced
SW capacity increased
Retarmacking the footprint of the stadium
Grey/red cladding of the rest of the stands

All that on top of the annual maintenance on the pitch and the 3x training pitches.

Also rumours of things happening at the EPC as well:

Yes, really keen to watch it all happen and to see what the finished article will look like when we play Tottenham at home first game of the season!
