Recruitment Team

Made in Wigan

Vital Champions League
???

Fair play to ‘em. I was somewhat sceptical of their ability to get the job done a few weeks back and suggested they needed to pull their fingers out. Every credit as they’ve done just that.

For the first time in many a season we’ve managed to assemble a balanced squad. Yes we’ve spent money, but the purchases have been necessary, reasonable and should hold value. Proof I guess will be in the pudding though. Not sure the Wolves lad was entirely necessary but I assume it’s to allow us to loan out Gelthard to a L1 club, along with Weir. If so understandable.

An internal review is still required to pick out the good, bad and how we can improve next time around. Personally I felt we were too slow off the mark and that was expressed in some exasperation from Cook. Only two (I think) loans which is a little surprising, though I guess it keeps some in hand for January where I don’t expect much activity barring major injuries or sales. Overall though a good end result.

The recruitment team have done what they are paid for...end of, no need to be congratulating them for doing their job!

Huge improvement the last couple of weeks, think that's down to the market going into full steam.

As for Weir and Gelhardt, Cook did say they would be part of the first team, but I honestly believe regular first team game time for 2 two 17 year olds is important and if a league 1 club wants them on loan, we would be silly to stop that.

It is their job but it's a job that many of the previous versions of our recruitment team has struggled to do well. Nothing wrong with giving credit where it is due, if we ready to critasise when the club are failing it's only fair we are willing to praise when they deliver too.

Just because someone is paid to do something, it doesn't mean they shouldn't be praised for doing it well. Reece James was adulated for his efforts last season, and rightly so, given that he probably kept us up. Did he not deserve that praise just because he was doing his job?

So if you want to go down the " last couple of seasons" nonsense, these lot we have at the minute did their job, the recruitment team over the past couple of seasons were useless, end of!

Will, if you honestly think RJ kept us up single handedly you are bloody deluded bro, he made a big contribution yes but didn't keep us up on his own.

:hmmm:
Last season, their work helped us to stay up .....comfortably

The previous season, their work helped us to win the league.

Not really sure how you get "useless" from that.

Having wrote up profiles on the squad and seeing what we have, whilst I did that, I'm very happy with the work the club has done to make sure we have adequate cover across the field, players who bring something different, yet fit the overall style of play and crucially, can operate in more than one position, aside from a couple of specialist players. They do deserve credit for that in what has been a difficult transfer window for everyone.

Yeah, you're right that he probably didn't keep us up singlehandedly. That was a mistake on my part, which you have rightly pointed out. I think you have missed my main point though. Do you not think that James deserves praise for the 'big contribution' that he made towards keeping us up?

But Chris Brass who is apparently the main person overseeing the department only came in just before the last window with minimal time to make any fundenmental changes and i believe there are new members of the recruitment department based on some adverts put out by the club for job vacancies.

So I think it's fair to say that this is a new version of recruitment set up operating in their first transfer window that they had time to fully prepare for. The last window Brass largely inherited the situation so there is an argument of how much credit or blame he can take for that. But this window is 100% all on him and in the end he got it right - what happened before he arrived we can't put on him. So like i said when it was looking ropey 2 weeks before the start of the season he was getting the flack for not having us where we wanted to be, but by the time the window shut he undoubtedly got us in a fantastic position and he deserves the praise for that. I said looking at how much work we needed and how long we had combined with the lean first 10 or so weeks that i didn't think he'd pull through and i'm delighted to be proven wrong. I believe you've got to give credit when it's earned.

Pilks is put for a month so it makes sense to have a lot of attacking options. Pilks and Jacobs in particular are made of quavers do it's essential we have lads who are versatile and can play any of the top 4 positions as need be like the wolves lad and Lowe can.

Very happy with the squad. 2 good players for every position. I'm not used to it !!

Thats all thats needed no need to go OTT with the accolades.

Yep we celebrate the goal for around a minute cheering the player that scored then watch the rest of the game.
Have you ever been to a match?
But why celebrate the player? Surely he is only doing his job? Or does that not fit with your agenda?
