Record transfer fee for the Rags??

Reports down under that the rags are going to spend over 50m pounds to secure Di Maria from RM.
Loosened their money belts already this year but if this is true then they will be spending money foolishly IMO.
This bloke can't get a place in RM team so I don't know how good he would be for the rags. He would def get a spot in their team but what good it would do them is in question. Anyway, a great way for them to run out of money I suppose.

£56 million is the figure apparently. A British transfer record Oziman.

Some of the press are saying it is nearer £60 million but that could be with add-ons.

Goal.com saying their reports say Madrid expect to pick up between £70-75 million for him with add-ons. He's also reportedly on Rooney's wages at £300.00 per week.

They better hope this one works out. There's only so many on £300K per week even they can afford. Rooney, Di Maria and the girl. 18 year old Shaw on more than Chelsea are paying for their established stars with European trophies under their belts.

There wages bill will outstrip everyone's soon.

Like fifth said, they'll stick him in a reserve game and claim they "found" him like they did with tranaldo. It might help them beat the likes of Sunderland, but it won't bring them back the title. They are terrified about missing Europe again, as most of their sponsors can reduce their deals without Champions League play.

This one baffles me, very good player but Shirley there's other areas of their squad that needs addressing first?

I don't think they are focusing on the squad right now, BD, I think they are focusing on who they can market in case they don't make the CL again. They'll push hard on another tour next summer with the big names to make up the money they lost. Their defense is still in shambles and they have no attacking threat. 1 point through two games against, let's be honest, weaker teams is not going to get it done.

I wouldn't say they've no attacking threat Philly, they've some of the best around in attack, if they add Di Maria to that they are right up there with the best of them in England for attacking options, it's what's behind them where their problem lies.

I'm not convinced by any of their team TBH! As others have pointed out, their defence is garbage, their midfield can just about pass wind, and if I'm honest, I don't think their attack is quite as fearsome as many make out.

Rooney and Van Pissflaps are both aging, and can't see either of them going a full season. Weldreck looks to be on his way, Hernandez has always been poor, and Mata is a playmaker not a striker. Di Maria will undoubtedly be an upgrade on the likes of Nani or Valencia, but I can't help get the feeling that this is purely a marketing stunt as Philly points out. He'll help sell shirts, but he won't address their main problems

I am loving the festering sense on panic which is enveloping that club.

After years of lording over everyone in the transfer market, bullying other clubs over fees and having a much vaunted wage structure they are now flapping around desperately paying whatever it takes in fees and wages to scramble back into the CL places. The constant, incessant bragging about how players join them for the history and reputation ........now they have to break the transfer record AGAIN to bring someone in.

They have spent £170m in 2014 and a RECORD £130m in the summer transfer window alone which is good news for anyone needing ammunition to deal with rag's banging on about teams 'buying the title'.

In the meantime it's a shame that their British Record signing isn't going to be available to play for his new team in their massive game against the MK Dons in the Carling Cup 2nd round tonight :ha-ha:

Your wish was granted. Big time. :yup:

Could not believe the garbage excuses that Iain Dowie was coming out with on Sky's Gillette Soccer Special after the game. What a load of sychophantic BS.
