Vital Football Legend
** The first time this season we have kept two consecutive clean sheets in the league.
** NINETEEN different scorers, seventeen in the league.
** The first time this season any City player has scored two in a league game.
** FIFTY league goals scored.
** The best goal difference in the division.
** The best away record in the division.
** SIX points clear of second place with a game in hand.
** FOURTEEN points clear of Exeter in eighth place - looking promising for a play-off place.
** And...the same points total (58) from the same number of games (28) as our championship season two years ago (thanks to Skip for this).

And guess what? Danny Cowley's teams have got better over the second half of every one of his seasons as a manager.

That is almost impossible to rate, so rate the players instead.

6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your comments too.

Deadline is 5pm on Thursday.

Smith - 6.5 didn't have much to do. Handled one bit of miscommunication with defence well.
Eardley - 8 great cross for the first, solid at the back.
Bolger - 7 missed key header in middle of park and a few wayward long passes, but also some good clearances and assured. Going to learn well from shack.
Shackell - 8 back to business as usual. Organised and cultured.
Toffolo - 6 lively going forward, but couldn't get to grips with his man. Lucky to stay on the pitch.
Bostwick - 7.5 a little off the pace in midfield. Some key challenges as expected, a couple mistimed. Decent distribution, although may need a couple more games there to feel at home back in midfield.
O'Connor - 7.5 in the thick of the action, consistent set piece delivery. Presumably subbed to save his legs for Bury.
Pett - 8 roving performance. Got stuck in, won some headers he had no right to, comfortable on the ball.
Anderson - 8 full of bustle, could have had the third. Tired himself out but never stopped running. Sometimes got stuck in the corner instead of taking an early cross, but that's Harry.
Rowe - 8.5 like a dog that's just been let off the leash. Chased everything and popped up everywhere. 2 goals well taken. MOTM
Akinde - 6 hit and miss. Couple of tame efforts on goal, some decent interplay when midfield got up to support him. Hold up play and vision lacking.

Frecklington - 6.5 conceded soft yellow, not quite on top of his game.
McCartan - 7 injected some needed energy to keep stretching their defence.
Rhead - 6.5 helped out defensively, nullified by their centre backs.

Smith 6.5 largely a spectator
Eardley 8
Bolger 7.5
Shackell 8
Toffolo 7
Bostwick 7.5
O'Connor 8
Pett 8
Anderson 7
Rowe 9
Akinde 7

Frecklington 6.5
McCartan 6
Rhead 6

Don't think we really got out of third gear. Very composed & Impressive performance. Thought we made Yeovil look ordinary and we looked like league leaders.
Smith - 6.5 - never really tested but did what he had to do.
Eardley - 7 - back to his best. Great cross for first goal
Bolger - 7.5 - great signing. Assured & composed & formed a good partnership with Shackell.
Shackell - 7.5 - great to have him back. Don't think he put a foot wrong all night.
Toffolo - 6 - saturday MoM went to his head! Very lucky to stay on pitch.
Bostwick - 7.5 - defence, midfield, doesn't matter - always get 100% from him.
O'Connor - 8.5 - my MoM - masterclass in defensive midfield and was more creative without Freck alongside. Controlled midfield & laid on second for Rowe.
Pett - 7.5 - covered a lot of ground and good close control. Also won a couple of headers I didn't expect him to.
Anderson - 7 - worked hard along the right flank but less of a threat than usual - closely marked by two or three at times.
Rowe - 8 - great to have him back. Superb movement, a constant threat to Yeovil and two superbly taken goals. Shame he couldn't stay on to get a hat-trick.
Akinde - 7 - worked very hard to occupy Yeovil defence and got free with great close control two or three times, but still lacking a spark In terms of inter-passing with team mates. Maybe Rowe will be that spark?
Frecklington - 6.5 - helped see the game out, but once again I wince at some of his tackles sometimes, before they are made!
McCartan - 6.5 - great energy to keep the pressure on Yeovil & see the game out.
Rhead - 6 - did what he had to do to see the game out, both defensively and with a couple of good flick-ons.

Listened live then watched full match on iFollow. We won that at a canter.

Smith - 6 had very little to do.
Eardley - 7.5 trademark down the right cross for our first.
Bolger - 7 Decent game. Looked calm and composed
Shackell - 7 Good game. Didn’t notice any mistakes
Toffolo - 6 Pacey getting forward but lucky not to get a red
Bostwick - 7.5 I thought he did well in midfield after months in defence.
O'Connor - 7.5 as above
Pett - 7.5 good performance winning tackles I thought he wouldn’t. Excellent in 50:50 headers
Anderson - 8 used his pace well to leave Yeovil standing at limes. Good lay-off to Eardley Cross for our first.
Rowe - 8.5 my MOTM. Great game and two goals
Akinde - 6.5 works better with Rhead but a good battling performance

Frecklington - 6 silly yellow when I saw it on the replay
McCartan - 6.5 usual pace and energy
Rhead - 6 supported defence well on for last 20 mins

It was a bit of a doddle last night, almost like a training game with us as the "A" team.

Smith - 5 Didn't get enough of the ball to even waste time; looked cold. Made a sort of half save, very early on. Sweat, he did not; the fans were more animated. In terms of earning a decent salary for doing very little, he was right up there with the news readers last night.
Eardley - 7.5 Was barely tested, got more forward, created a goal.
Bolger - 7 Dominated when near the ball. A few unnecessary hoofs.
Shackell - 7 Calmness personified in defence, but then a truly woeful shot which reminded him to stick to set pieces.
Toffolo - 6.5 He has a new confidence getting forward but is watching too much MMA.
Bostwick - 7.5 It was strange seeing him get so much further forward, battled and won the ball wherever he went.
O'Connor - 7.5 Quietly took control, some lovely passing, could have gone on for hours.
Pett - 7.5 pressed their midfield until he got the ball, won his tackles and headers.
Anderson - 7 they looked worried about his pace from the start, doubled up on him at times, could have provided some better crosses.
Rowe - 8.5 MOTM. Was everywhere, chasing down and making himself available, two well taken goals
Akinde - 7 Had a bit more belief, took on and beat defenders, some telling passes, needs to shoot with more venom.

Frecklington - 6.5 unnecessary yellow, a point to prove?
McCartan - 6.5 great to be able to bring him off the bench.
Rhead - 6.5 helped manage the game, one notable semi-sprint forward.

How can you mark Smith down for lack of activity due to Yeovil Town's ineptitude?

Your score makes him look worse than average!

Not good.

Smith. 6 Made a routine save with his legs at the near post and a couple of catches but their attacking threat was on par with Grimsby.
Eardley 7. Solid in defence, attacking threat plus a great assist.
Bolger 7.
Shackell 7. As a pair they were dominant but not really threatened
Toffolo. 6. Consistently good but lucky he gets to play at Bury
Bozzie. 8 Beast providing the shield ahead of back 4. He was very good and close to MoM.
OConnor 8. In great form atm and ran the show with a great assist.
Pett. 7.5. Worked well down the left side, hardly ever lost the ball and linked up play well.
Rowe. 8. Lively and classy, match winning goals and gave us that much needed zip going forward.
Akinde. 8. One man battering ram tying up 2 or 3 defenders every time the ball was played up to him giving everyone else space to spare.

Rhead 6. Did what he does but a notable decline in the team performance when JA went off.
Freck 6. Ticked over ok but not the effect that OConnor had.
McCartan..6.5 had an effort cleared off the line following a corner and kept the ball well.

Yeovil manager Darren Wray ? 0/10. whinging about our gamesmanship etc. His team were outplayed and beat easily so looking for an easy excuse to deflect the criticism of his team and his management skills. Dickhead jumping on the bandwagon, join the back of the queue mate we don’t give a flying f*ck!

Not good.

It was said in jest more than anything. Keepers are hard to mark in these circumstances, it certainly was not his fault that he got a modest score, but he did very little; surely one of his most anonymous performances?

I will give him a revised 6.5 to make you happy, (and help his average).

If he keeps Bury out I will give him much closer to 10.

Just a reminder about what the par score of 6.0 represents.

If a player simply does what is expected of him - no more, no less - then he earns the par score.

If the player makes an error or two, you may choose to deduct from the par score: some people deduct half a mark per error, some a whole mark depending on the nature of it.

The flip side is a player who does more than expected: a goal, an assist, a dominant defensive performance, or a penalty save may be worth an extra half-mark or mark.

Some people prefer to mark on instinct rather than use any specific system. That is fine too, but the par score should always be the focal point.

The most important thing is not to be swayed by what anyone else thinks and post your own opinion. Try to be as objective as possible and remain consistent within your own marking process. That's all.
