Rate The Players v Sunderland

A setback? Yes. Unexpected? Probably. Disappointing? Yes. Were Sunderland surprisingly good? Yes, a thousand times over. Will we be playing sides like that every week? No. Will Shrewsbury be similar? No. Will they come to ruin the game? Yep. Will we be smart enough to work out what to expect? That's up to MA and his analysts. Will we have learnt any lessons from today? That's up to MA and his analysts. Does today change the fact that we have had an unbelievable start to the season? Not in a million years.

Sometimes in life, things do not go your way. As MA would say, today was one of them.

Palmer 6 No fault on any of the goals, and one excellent quick clearance that put Johnson through on goal.

Eyoma 5 Looked sluggish and unsure after playing centre back in midweek. Gotts is a better option at the moment
Montsma 5 General defending OK, but a big fault that he needs to get better at is picking up his man on crosses. That fault was really exposed yesteday
Walsh 5 Relentless pressure because of Sunderland's dominance of our midfield meant that he struggled
Edun 3 Weak link yeserday as many have said. All four goals came down his side, but had little support from midfield.

Grant 4 The midfield did not gel today at all, and Grant could not display anything that he usually gets plaudits for
Gotts 4 Very unsure of his midfield role yesterday
Jones 4 With his two midfield partners well under par, he struggled to have any impact.

Anderson 6 Best forward and tried to do his defensive role as well
Johnson 5 Lack of finishing ability is a reason why he is with us and not in Forest's first team squad. When/if he learns that, he will have a higher league future. His two misses yesterday could have turned the game, but I'm not sure we wouldn't still have lost 2-4
Hopper 5 Gave 100% as usual despite no creativity from our midfield

Scully 5 Plenty of effort without really affecting anything.

Palmer - 5.5 Quick throw out but he usually helps position the defenders. They scored four goals.
Eyoma - 5.5 Reacted too late in the box.
Montsma - 5.5 Positioning, what positioning?
Walsh - 5 Barely noticed him.
Edun - 4 Exposed for what he isn’t, time and again.
Grant - 5 Fleeting glimpses, generally swamped.
Gotts - 4.5 Weak, no confidence when up against such experience.
Jones - 5 Little positive play, not much clicked for him.
Anderson - 6 Sweated more than most, blind alleys going forward.
Johnson - 5 Some good touches, abysmal game changing finishing?
Hopper - 5 Fought. Would do well to study their number 9’s quick movement off the ball and particularly towards goal (Wyke).

Scully - 5.5 No great impact, already three down when he came on.

Let the two missed chances and penalty decision get to them. No cohesion from then on, and little creativity. We move on, perhaps Roughan and Elbouzedi will get an opportunity on Tuesday.

We played a surprising in form team, but Johnson is a very good Mngr. we were out of touch, but the players did work hard. We were closed down on every ball, and they stopped us playing. We had a better 2nd half.

In Johnsons case I will mark him 4, he should have layed both balls into 6 yd box 3 of our players were near him on beside him and 2 on edge of 6 yd box.

Somebody has to tell him its a team game, and IMO he is now playing for himself and getting back to Forest, and I'm afraid not for LCFC.

Come on MA &DK Elbouzedi has shown what he can do and from his game against Shrewsbury apart from scoring he layed 2 more balls back, a really good day for him.

Come on MA give him a rest (Johnson) for the whole teams sake.
And can Melbourne not be given a run please
We definitely missed Connor Mc Grandles to-day a very good holding player.

come on boys.

Palmer - 6 - Not at fault for any of the goals
Eyoma - 5 - His poorest game for us, a bit confused by the position switching?
Montsma - 5 - Failed to dominate the box, one smart turn
Walsh - 5 - Also failed to dominate in our box, didn't see too much leadership in an inexperienced and (on the day) poor back line
Edun - 3 - Dreadful defensively and I'm not sure his ball-playing ability is good enough to justify why he starts
Grant - 5 - Not effective as a holding player nor as a playmaker yesterday
Gotts - 5 - Didn't really notice him, not sure why he played a more advanced role in the midfield three, a role seemingly tailormade for Brennan Johnson
Jones - 5 - Poor distribution and a couple of looped attempts to find men out wide that were badly judged
Anderson - 6 - Not much service, always battles
Johnson - 6.5 - Yeah he missed. Yeah it's frustrating. If he scored as many chances as we want him to he wouldn't be farmed out to League One. Often our biggest threat.
Hopper - 7 - Some really good hold up play and attempted to press their line and bring others into play.

Scully - 6 - Not much he could do

Palmer 6 Couldn't do much about the goals and if Johnson had buried that second early chance he had the assist for the season poll would have only needed one entry

Eyoma 5 Below the normal standards he's set and struggled
Montsma 5.5 Difficult game for all defenders
Walsh 5 Struggled as with the rest of the defence
Edun 4 Couldn't cope with their pace on the right and kept losing his man. Very little defensive support offered to him though

Grant 5.5 Unable to influence the game
Jones 5 Couldn't get going
Gotts 5.5 Invisible in the middle of the park but did offer more when moved to right back

Anderson 6 Effort and hard work which gets him my MOM
Johnson 4 Really should have buried those early chances and it affected his performance. One of the reasons Edun was left exposed throughout

Hopper 5.5 Usual graft but unable to influence the game

Scully 5 Couldn't get going

Below par across the board and Sunderland made us pay for that

Tough day against well organised, experienced and streetwise opposition, really missed Bridcutt and McGrandles.
Palmer- 6 - left exposed by his defence too often.
Eyoma-5 struggled against pacy attacks on his flank but received some support.
Montsma 5 - unlucky to be booked and should have won a penalty. Struggled against canny forwards
Walsh 5 - similar to Montsma in defence.
Edun 4.5 - like Eyoma, but with less support. Some poor positioning but too often left 1v 2 or even 3 and that's impossible to defend against, some of his critics need to acknowledge that.
Grant - 5 - pushed deep by Sunderland's pressing, passing restricted and set pieces disappointing.
Gotts - 4.5 a tough day, ineffective and hard lessons learned.
Jones -5 - struggled to be involved in what seemed to be a lone battle at times.
Anderson 6.5 - MoM, hard working, looking to be a threat while giving Eyoma support.
Johnson - 4 - a talent, but wasted 2 1 on 1s without hitting target and negligent in lack of support for Edun.
Hopper 6 - kept going against the Sunderland defence.

Scully - 6 looked sharp and lively.
