Rate The Players v Oxford United

Vital Football Legend
Now the knee-jerkers are safely in bed, jerking away beneath the sheets (yes, I realise how accurate that is), we can safely launch today's Rate The Players thread. At least, I hope we can.

So, here is a tentative toe in the ratings water.

6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your balanced comments too.

Deadline is 5pm on Monday, assuming the knees and brains have stopped wibbling by then.

A very strange game to mark - three parts; the first 25mins, the second 20 mins, them the second half.

Griffiths - 7 - quite sound. Can’t be blaimed for either goal (or obviously the pen). One or two decent saves and distribution better, but under less pressure than last week.
Poole - 6.5 - a bit more active than last week but had a bad first half, but better second.
Montsma - 6.5 - we’ve really missed his bringing the ball out from the back but defensively he is still a bit naive at times. Needs a bit more discipline and control and needs to learn how to deal with experienced strikers like Taylor, especially with the penalty.
Jackson - 7 - had a lot of pressure to cope with in the first half and dealt with it better than most. Nice to see him have a couple of chances from corners.
Bramall - 6.5 - like some others seemed unsure of his position first half and a bit lost. Better second half, particularly attacking.
Bridcutt - 6.5 - first 25 minutes was all over the place and not doing his usual protecting the back four and starting moves. Better when he settled down and after the teaser-organised.
Sorensen - 6 - like others, lost a bit first half but settled won and played some decent stuff after HT.
McGrandles - 6 - worked hard but is definitely missing something from last year. Is he another one that’s got some sort of niggly injury that’s holding him back?
Adelukan - 6 - averaged out over the game. First half he was awful, caught in possession, headless chicken lucky not to get booked or even sent off. Second half he actually looked though he could provide an option at CF with more experience.
Bishop - 7.5 - myMoM. WHY was he playing the No9 role 😡. We needed a midfield against Oxford from the off so why play him in a role not natural to him? So much better when he dropped back and started to get the team moving, also allowed Bridcutt to drop back to his natural role.
Scully - 7 - tried hard from the off and had a few good moves. Got better as the game progressed.

Fiorini - deserved a mention. Seemed composed and could be up for a starting role, in the right game.

Griffiths 6 - Let in three but did much better than of late, more confidence, some good takes and a couple of decent saves.
Poole 5 - Terrible first half, almost scared to go forward, good last ten minutes.
Jackson 6 - Best of the defence, but still pulled apart first half, and some poor clearances but did get stuck in.
Montsma 5.5 - Inevitably not match fit, slightly out thought by a forward always looking for a foul, poor passing.
Bramall 5.5 - Took a good while for him to get going and use his pace, only attacked with belief second half.
Bridcutt 6 - Hopeless pass lead to their first, showed touches but they were a long time coming. Steadied a fast sinking ship.
Sorensen 4.5 - So, so weak in the tackle, doesn’t sprint, very poor first half more effort needed throughout.
McGrandles 5 - Negative passing, sideways and backwards, slow thinking. His game relies on players sprinting up the flanks to provide options or give him space, it just didn’t happen.
Adelakun 4 - Woeful: dreadful first half, slow, lucky ref was lenient, didn’t care when put up front, didn’t work or harry, didn’t need a shower at the end, wasn’t clapped off.
Bishop 6.5 Overall, the only player to make an above average appearance, some good late touches, started winning the midfield and providing decent distribution.
Scully 6 - Worked hardest and scored the penalty but needed much more support, had some shots towards the end.

We were simply overrun first half, their pace, movement and measured passing was in stark contrast to our sluggishness and lack of belief. We were better second half but not great until very late on. 4-1 would have been a fairer reflection.

Griffiths 6 - Two decent saves but I felt he was slow getting down to the crucial second goal.

Poole 4 - My main criticism of Poole has been that he is poor going forward but decent defensively. Yesterday he was poor in both directions.
Jackson 7 - Best defender once again.
Montsma 5.5 - Was up again a tough forward in Taylor, and struggled.
Bramall 5 - As usual, looked good going forward but his defending was just dreadful.

Bridcutt 6 - Probably the poorest half (first) I have seen from him. Looked better with the change in formation at half time.
Sorensen 5.5 - Did his best, but did not look comfortable and seemed unsure where he should play.
McGrandles 5.5 - Conor has struggled to understand his role this season, except when he plays in Bridcutt's position.
Bishop 7 Never in the game first half due to the formation, but always a threat second half.

Adelakun 4 - MA's comments about a lack of effort must have been directed at him. Absolutely awful first half, slightly better second. I know his style is "languid", but he won't stay in an MA team without effort.
Scully 6 - Worked hard as usual. Missed a couple of half chances as usual. But still our ONLY goal threat.

MA - 4.5 The system we played first half was clearly not working long before half time and should have been tweaked well before the game was out of reach.

Please, no commenting on other people's ratings. The match thread is the place for that.

Griffiths - 6. Don't think he could be blamed for any of the goals. Made one good save.
Poole - 6. Didn't get forward much.
Jackson - 6. Steady.
Montsma - 6. Reasonably OK.
Bramall - 6.5. Probably our best attacking threat.
Bridcutt - 6.5. Tried to get things moving - not always successfully.
Sorensen - 5. Not very effective.
McGrandles - 5. Same as Sorensen.
Adelakun - 5.5. Ineffective first half. Looked better in the second half when playing as striker and nearly forced a goal. Ironically, though seemed less in the game.
Bishop - 5.5. Hardly in the game first half. Did better in midfield in the second, but not until late on.
Scully - 6. Not in the game much in the first half, but nearly scored twice in the second along with the penalty.

Griffiths 6 Let down by midfield
Poole 5 Did okay
Jackson 6 Won a few crucial headers
Montsma 6 tough call on penalty
Bramall 6.5 Thought the lad did okay today would have preferred TJ in the back line and Brammall further up the pitch today
Bridcutt 6.5 Tried to marshal troops
Sorensen 5 Huffed and puffed.....
McGrandles 4 Thought he lost Henry twice!
Adelakun 5 Poor 1st half played a Tom Hopper role in second half, needs a measure or two of what Bossie and Raggett had, to attack ball in box
Bishop 7 Needs better around him
Scully 7 Ditto

You can halve the marks for first half, I thought our set up was all over the place, but what do I know!! Just about rescued something for the fans to cheer about towards the end.

I seem to be missing something.
If your unable to go to the game how are people scoring players without seeing them. Is there a way of viewing the game? I thought ifollow was for overseas only.

The whole match is available on ifollow the day after it is played - that's one way of doing it!
