Vital Football Legend
Deserved or not, we have three points from one of the five most difficult away games of the season. Josh Vickers makes his comeback after seven months out, while Harry T, Big John, Brunsky and Shay McC make their debuts. Matt G scores City's first goal of the season for the second season running, and it is always great to earn a clean sheet under any circumstances. Danny has focused on the process, as he usually does, but football is a funny old game. A win is a win, regardless. After all, we could be Grimsby supporters.

You know the rules by now. 6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your comments too.

Deadline is 5pm on Tuesday.

Eardley 7 good cross for goal. Experience crucial in shaky defence.
Wilson 5.5 below par.
Waterfall 5.5 ditto.
Wharton 6 stepped up in second half.
Toffolo 7 marshalled his man well. Got hit in the nads and carried on - well worth half a point.
Bostwick 6.5 much needed determination.
Frecklington 6 largely anonymous.
McCartan 6 ditto.
Akinde 6 not surprised he got pulled off.
Green 7 great goal. Rest of his game was blah.

Andrade 6 didn't get the time to make impression.
Anderson 6 ditto.
These 6 ditto.

Last name should be rhead, damn your eyes autocorrect.

No rating required for Rhead, as he wasn't on for long enough. Feel free to, though.

Vickers 9.5. Wonderful performance, saved his team mates.
Eardley 7 Added quality and made time
Wilson 5 Shocking first half
Waterfall 5. Suicidal back pass
Wharton 6 Best of a fairly poor bunch
Toffolo 7 Showed flashes of quality and determination.
Bostwick 6 Not match fit, failed to get near some tackles.
Frecklington 5.5 Some good link play, stupid booking
McCartan 6 Drove forward on occasion, tackled back.
Akinde 5.5 Disappointing effort, not mobile enough, won few clean headers
Green 6.5 Put most effort in up front and scored the all important goal.

Andrade 5
Anderson 5
Rhead 6

Vickers - 9 Brilliant. 10 if he could kick better (harsh I know!)
Eardley - 7 Classic Eardley assist
Wilson - 6 Not sure he did anything massively wrong but we were all at seas really.
Waterfall - 5 Bad back pass, they got in behind him a bit
Wharton - 6 One bad back header but the best of the three and most comfortable on the ball.
Toffolo - 5.5 Wasn't convinced defensively at all today. Some threat going forward.
Bostwick - 6 Out on his feet I think, overrun
Frecklington - 6 Similar to Bostwick, would describe his performance as 'streetwise' today!
McCartan - 6 Odd flash, but not on the ball enough. Think against difficult sides he might need to be deeper to help the other two in the middle.
Akinde - 6 Looks useful to me and strong, touch wasn't always there. Think he will look like he's cruising occasionally and fans have to be patient.
Green - 6.5 Good pressing and goal.

Andrade 6 - Did bits to run the clock down and flashed one across goal.
Anderson 4.5 - Not his day when he came on, seemed to be dispossessed every time which was not what we needed! Difficult task though when we were sat in.
Rhead 5.5 - Very deep helping us to cling on at the end.

Vickers 9.5 - Brilliant goalkeeping, there was a couple of times when his distribution let him down but he was the reason we won today and kept a superb clean sheet
Eardley 6.5 - Excellent assist for the goal, passing a bit hit or miss at times and was caught out of position at times
Wilson 6 - Improved after a shaky start
Waterfall 6 - Poor pass that almost gifted them a goal, eventually was more solid as the game progressed
Wharton 6 - Almost did a repeat of Waterfall's misplaced backpass but improved after that
Toffolo 6.5 - Looked okay going forward but was caught out of position a few times when Northampton attacked
Bostwick 5.5 - Only saw glimpses of the Bossie from last season, will improve
Frecklington 5 - Didn't really notice him until the booking which was uneccessary
McCartan 6.5 - Showed some nice touches
Akinde 6 - Was here, there and everywhere
Green 6.5 - Good finish for the goal

Andrade 6 - Was a threat for a while until he got clobbered by their defender
Anderson 5.5 - One or two good movements with the ball

Vickers 10
Eardley 7 good cross, less ball than usual as more went through the left side for a change
Wilson 7 new system looked shakey at the start but all 3 defenders grew into the role and kept a clean sheet
Waterfall 6 shocking back pass
Wharton 7 excellent in the air
Toffolo 7.5 v.good 2nd half
Bostwick 7
Frecklington 6.5 good defensive work
McCartan 6 looked good the few chances he had
Akinde 6 was beginning to look handy 2nd half
Green 7 very well taken goal

Andrade 6
Anderson 6

Great game to start the season, if not for performance, then for result and for DC/NC to gauge where we are and what we need to do going forward.
Vickers - 10 - my MoM. Dealt with everything.
Eardley - 7.5 - usual classy, sloid & reliable performance. Any first half failings were down to formation & tactics rather than anything from NE.
Wilson - 6 - not immediately comfortable with three at the back but did OK.
Waterfall - 5 - not up to his usual dominant self and almost cost us a goal with that back-pass ?
Wharton - 5.5 - not up to his normal standard but maybe not entirely comfortable with playing in a back three?
Toffolo - 7 - allaction going forward and played well as a left sided WB. Only shortcoming was initial gaps behind him, but this was the back three system.
Bostwick - 6 - not quite as mobile as normal but this was probably due to match fitness & the heat. Did notice him holding a & playing the ball a bit more than last season instead of just hoofing it or flicking it.
Frecklington - 7 - got about the park well and involved himself more than I think a lot realised.
McCartan - 6.5 - did a couple of good things early on and got about the pitch well. Personally, I reckon he'll be one of our best signings once he fully settles into a role.
Green - 7.5 - great movement and took his goal really well.
Akinde - 6.5 - a few signs of some excellent movement. Reckon he'll be good once he gets fully fit, on method and scores a couple of goals.

Anderson - 6 - couple of good runs.
Andrade - 6 - couple of good runs but didn't really threaten.

Based on not a great view from the bottom of the away stand
Vickers - 9
Eardley - 6.5
Wilson - 6.5
Waterfall - 6
Wharton - 7
Toffolo - 6.5
Bostwick - 6
Frecklington - 6.5
McCartan - 6
Akinde - 6
Green - 6.5

Andrade - 6
Anderson - 6

Vickers 10 - one bad kick, but can’t deny him a 10, fantastic.
Eardley 7 - got better as the game went on, adapting to new position?
Wilson 6 - much better second half, struggled first half.
Waterfall 5.5 - owes Vickers a large drink. Also better second half.
Wharton 6.5 - took control second half after struggling to begin with, great second half.
Toffolo 6 - a threat going forward, their winger gave him a tough time.
Bostwick 7 - battling as always.
Frecklington 5.5 - needs to influence games more.
McCartan 6 - worked hard but saw little of the ball.
Akinde 5.5 - looked better than preseason but feel he needs a goal.
Green 6.5 - took his goal well and full of running.

Andrade 6 - one time he got the ball he did well, but saw little of it.
Anderson 5 - saw very little of the ball.
Rhead 6.5 - they struggled to deal with him without fouling him.

Vickers 9.5 brilliant, kicking needs some work
Toffolo 7 - did ok, don’t get the criticism. Unlucky with the effort that was deflected over despite the goalkick being given
Wilson 6 did ok some good headers won
Waterfall 5 big mistakes cost games, unless you’ve super Josh behind you
Wharton 6.5 our most accomplished defender
Eardley 7 did ok sublime cross
Bostwick 7 decent game considering lack of pre-season game time. I’m sure he played a one two off the ref in the build up to the goal
Freck 6.5 did ok without bossing or unlocking midfield
McCartan - 6.5 industrious, looks to be a good player when fully settled
Green 7.5 worked hard, took his chance well
Akinde 6.5 did ok, couple of nice touches, will improve as he gets Cowley fit

Rhead 6.5 - absolute nuisance, could sense their defenders saying ‘oh SH!t’ once he came on
Anderson 6.5 buzzed about needed more of the ball
Andrade 6.5 again buzzed about, decent start

Vickers 9 Excellent performance with some fab saves when Northampton were through 1 on 1. Had to deal with a few defensive blunders in front of him. Only thing stopping a 10 was a few dodgy kicks. my MOTM.
Eardley 8 Some beautiful through balls to strikers. Cross for Green's goal as perfect.
Wilson 5 Oh dear especially first half
Waterfall 5 What was he thinking with that back pass ?
Wharton 5.5 The back three were poor with Wharton the lest poor
Toffolo 7 Did well and some nice touches
Bostwick 6 Didn't look match fit and struggled towards the end of each half.
Frecklington 5.5 Getting pointlessly booked is not acceptable
McCartan 6 Supported attacks and get back to defend
Akinde 5.5 Didn't look as good as Green to be honest. Early days
Green 7 goal aside he looked up for it and ran their defense ragged

Andrade 5 Didn't do anything impressive that I noticed
Anderson 5 As Andrade

Vickers - 9.5 - best performance from a Lincoln goalkeeper in my 55 years of watching them. The odd poor clearance meant he didn't get the full 10.

Eardley - 7.5 - another excellent display from Neal and his cross for Green's goal was sublime. Needs a bit of work in the new formation.
Wilson - 7 - a very solid display, once the early nerves were worked off. The new formation needs a bit of work still.
Waterfall - 7 - as above. Would probably have been more but for that dreadful back pass!
Wharton - 7 - as above.
Toffolo - 7 - A very welcoming début and looked good going forward. As said above, the new formation needs some work.

Bostwick - 7.5 - Mr Dependable. Great to see him back and on form.
Frecklington - 7.5 - looks a lot fitter than end of last season. Nearly back to his best and when he is, the opposition had better watch out!
McCartan - 7 - a fairly quiet début with some moments of brilliance. One to watch in the coming weeks.
Akinde - 7 - another quiet début but, again,m showed moments of class. Another one to watch in the coming weeks.
Green - 8 - a class act who moves so well and gets into some very good positions. H'll score a few this season, no mistake. Took his (rare) headed goal so, so well.

Andrade - 6.5 - not on long enough to make full assessment, but he did show a turn of foot.
Anderson - 6 - pacey, but not effective this time. He's another one who will improve over time.
Rhead - 6.5 - not on long but shows he's lost none of his skill even if he has lost someweight! That pass to Andrade was magical.
