Vital Football Legend
Back to winning ways in style, and reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. Two goals and an assist from a firing-again Brennan Johnson, an early one from Anthony Scully Jnr and one from Hopping Tom completes a great afternoon for the forward line. Two more against Burton will give us 50 for the season, not to be sneezed at in any sense. We go into Christmas level on points at the top, and perhaps we can start to look forward to 2021 after all.

6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your comments too.

Deadline is 5pm on Tuesday (no midweek game this time).

Excellent across the board dealing with an appalling pitch and an even more appalling opponent.

Palmer 7 Not much to do but dominate in his area

Eyoma 7 Very steady and untroubled
Walsh 7 Just reliable
Montsma 8 Warrior performance.
Edun 7 Very good defensively (bar that late miscommunication) and some very good through balls

Grant 7 Good game without standing out, but that was more down to others playing at his level
Howarth 7 Busy performance but the occasional lapse in not playing others in. Trying slightly too hard to make that impression
Jones 7 Very solid in the centre

Scully 8 Got us going with a very well taken early goal
Johnson 8 Caused them problems all match and deserved his two late goals

Hopper 8.5 Led the line superbly throughout and his defensive work at their set pieces was excellent. Very brave goal which killed the game off just before the break

Nobody deserves less than a 7 after an old school, battling team performance with the correct team earning the right to run out comfortable winners.

Palmer 8 - massive upgrade on previous seasons. Great to see a keeper coming for crosses. Dispelling the myth that ‘modern keepers don’t do that’
Eyoma 6 - much better defensively than going forward. Which was perfect for this game
Montsma 8 - they were clearly trying to get him sent off, dealt with that test admirably
Walsh 7
Edun 6 - have come to the conclusion par for him is a very mixed bag. dreaming of being a midfielder. often when he should be defending. Not a left back for this level of team.
Grant 8 - did well in the type of game where he might previously have hidden. Great assist for the hopper goal
Howarth 6 - seems to improve a bit each time. Hopefully the decision making will get better the more he plays.
Jones 7 great first half. Battled in the second half. Quality through ball for goal 3
Johnson 8 - Lots more came off today. lucky boots. Mom
Scully 7 - keeps improving week by week.
Hopper 8 - very good goal, would score more with more of that kind of delivery into him.

Bolger 7

funny how the invisible mcgrandles isn’t missed when we win and he is not there. )))

Northampton - awful opponents, awful pitch, awful referee but these are the places you have to go and get points. We did that perfectly 👏👏👏👏

Palmer - 7.5 - distribution and commanding his area were superb. Best keeper we’ve had for many a year.
Eyoma - 7 - less adventurous than normal but defensively solid.
Montsma - 8 - huge performance. Bravely took a right battering (hope he’s ok 🤞). Loved the forward play as well - such control and composure 👍
Walsh - 7 - solid and dependable.
Edun - 7 - still a couple of wobbles defensively but going forward was really good with some lovely passes.
Grant - 7 - solid performance with some lovely deliveries.
Howarth - 6.5 - getting better with every game. Needs to not try too hard & do the simple things well.
Jones - 7 - solid game and covered every blade of grass (well, what there was)
Johnson - 8.5 - constant thorn in Northampton’s side (as we knew he should be). Took his two goals really well.
Hopper - 7.5 - worked really hard for the team. Superbly taken goal and very brave 👍
Scully - 7 - made a real nuisance of himself and lovely composure to take his goal.

Honourable mention for agent Bolger - I was never comfortable with him at Lincoln and yesterday showed why, and why MA has moved on this type of player.

Stood up well to the physical challenges (encouraged by poor refereeing) posed by an otherwise very limited side who look nailed-on for relegation, taking a well deserved comprehensive win and Christmas in second.
Palmer - 7 - no major saves needed, but always calm, authoritative and excellent long distribution.
Eyoma - 7.5 - back to his best, sound defensively and lively getting forward.
Montsma - 8 - stood up to a physical battering including one premeditated elbow.
Walsh - 8.5 - marshalled defence against the sort of opposition only he's likely to have encountered before, with some assured work in possession.
Edun - 7.5 - steady, similar to Eyoma.
Grant - 8 - controlled a game which the opposition wanted to keep scrappy. Set pieces better and good delivery for Hopper's goal.
Howarth - 7 - a good shift, supporting the front 3 well, let down by occasional poor decision making which will surely improve
Jones - 7.5 - did the hard yards with Grant for control of midfield.
Johnson - 8.5 - set the tone with his run and pass for the first goal, two lovely finishes for his 2 late goals, lots of good stuff in between, thrives against poor sides but needs to continue learning when opposition are well-organised.
Scully - 8 - cool head and a calm finish for his goal, effective throughout.
Hopper -8 - brave for his goal, got the better of a robust defence.

Anderson did some nice work when he was on and Gotts' cameo included a superb pass for Johnson's 2nd.
