Rate The Players v Hull City

Q: when is a point more than a point?
A: when it stops a promotion rival winning.

City remain three points clear of Hull and also Peterborough, who along with Portsmouth were the only winners in the top eight. Defeats for Doncaster, Sunderland, Accrington and Ipswich make this evening another good one, and victory over Accrington this Saturday may well put the Imps beyond the reach of John Coleman's side. Lincoln are about to enter a clearer spell of matches, whereas some of their rivals have the opposite to contend with. The away run of victories may be over, but City have now conceded 2 goals in their last 11 away league games, which is almost freakish. There are 20 games to play, all we have to do is stay right where we are...

Nobody gets anything less than 6 after a hard fought dogged display, even if there weren't quite the same usual moments of quality to pinch it.

Palmer 6 - shielded superbly by his defence
Eyoma 6 - clearly still under the weather but no hiding
Jackson 7.5 - When Montsma is on the bench a 7 every game is the minimum
Walsh 8 - A ball playing defender who can actually defend as well. Surely not
Edun 6 - settled down after an unsure start
McGrandles - 7 really grafting for the team
Grant 6 - off it quality wise tonight but still constantly looked to drive the team on
Johnson 6 - not really his pitch, couldn't get going
Rogers 7 - hard working performance in a proper man's game
Hopper 6 - A little tired tonight? Understandable with his work load

Jones 6.5 - Eased his way back in after his lay off
Bramall 6.5 - hit the ground running, boosted the side when needed
Poole 6.5 - ditto Bramall. Looked good in the air for a fullback

Palmer 7: Rarely troubled but a confident presence behind the back four
Eyoma 7: Looked a little leggy at times but did well. May be due a rest soon as all these games may be catching up with him.
Jackson 8: Another terrific performance and you can see why he is keeping Montsma out of the side.
Walsh 8.5: Our best centre-back now? Threw his body on the line several times and seemed an omnipresence at the back. Brings the ball out of defence so well too.
Edun 6: Not terrible by any means but constantly gave the ball away first half. Looked dangerous when attacking.
Bridcutt 6: Never really got into it before coming off.
McGrandles 7: Grafted so well in the centre.
Grant 7: Tried his best to create something but put a shift in nonetheless.
Johnson 6: Couple of sighters at goal but never really got going.
Rogers 5.5: Did his defensive duties well but was barely seen in the attacking third.
Hopper 6: Good chance end of first half but wasn't given any service. Worked hard as always.

Jones 6: Average
Bramall 6.5: Looked classy at times in bursts forward. Promising.
Poole 6.5: Solid but went backwards with the ball nearly every time.

Palmer 6.5 One dodgy clearance aside solid as a rock, though not much to do

Eyoma 6 Possibly still not quite 100% but a decent enough shift
Walsh 8 Superb again with one thrown yourself at the ball block which was their best chance.MOM
Jackson 7.5 Brilliant also in the centre
Edun 6 Some wayward passes but as with Eyoma no mistakes as such

Grant 6 A difficult game for him to properly influence
McGrandles 7 Very busy as ever

Johnson 6 Couldn't make a real impact
Hopper 6 Put his usual shift in. Shame it was him and not one of the others with that breakaway just before half time, but it was a chance he made himself
Rogers 7 Looked the most dangerous of the attackers and some very decent defensive work covering

Jones 6.5 Worked hard but wayward with his shooting
Poole 6 Fine
Bramall 6.5 First viewing and looks like a decent player at both ends of the pitch

Agree a point off a close rival is always a valuable one. A tough grind of a match with both sides having left their finishing boots at home on a stodgy pitch in difficult, arctic conditions.

Omission of Bridcutt in list reflects short time on pitch?

Palmer 7 - usual. No shots on target from Hull made his life nominally easy but his usual calm assurance in evidence.
Eyoma 6- one great early run and cross aside still clearly feeling last week's bug and well under par, subbed on the hour.
Jackson 8- imperious at CB again.
Walsh 8- solid, assured, confident. We have 3 top class CBs.
Edun 7 - curious match. Started well, relapsed to shaky passing but was back on his game before a knock saw him subbed with TJ.
McGrandles 7.5- graft, graft, graft to try and make things happen.
Grant 6.5 - fairly anonymous by recent hight standards, loss of Bridcutt changed role - for the worse.
Johnson 6.5 - had the game's one shot on target, dangerous occasionally on the ball, some solid work off it but anonymous at times.
Rogers 7.5 - improving match by match, some good work off the ball and defensively and nearly finished a sharp first half move.
Hopper 7- usual level of work and commitment, nearly in the right place to bag rebound from Johnson's shot which showed anticipation improved.

Jones 7 - midfield structure clearly weaker when he replace Bridcutt but worked to try to make things work.
Bramall 7 - looked promising! Couple of nice runs down the left, on message from the off.
Poole 7.5 - similar to Bramall, ghosted in dangerously at the far post and cleverly covered left back in dealing with a break.
