Rate The Players v Colchester United

Well, that was a four-point swing on Mansfield in four minutes, or five points if you count Mandron's disallowed goal. Hands up if you actually love Port Vale?

The captain does it again, the magic hat did its magic. How good was Palmer?

Only 8 teams left in with a chance of a top seven finish, and Lincoln need 4 points from 3 games to be certain of being one of them.

6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your comments too.

Oh, and do your best to be objective after that!

Deadline is 5pm on Monday.

Allsop 6 - solid as usual
Eardley 6 - not quite up to his usual standard
Bostwick 6 - took one for the team
Wharton 6 - didn't miss much
Habergham 5 - not at his best
Whitehouse 5 - huffed and puffed in a dysfunctional midfield
Woodyard 6 - OK. He needs a dynamic midfielder next to him to win headers and drive into the opponents' half.
Frecklington 5 - as Whitehouse.
Anderson 5 - no service so anonymous
Green 5 - takes an age to get the ball out of his feet & shoot
Rhead 5 - could get the ref on his side if he helped himself
Pett 5 - little impact and blazed over the bar when well placed
Waterfall 7 - seemed to wake the rest of the team up
Palmer 10 - changed the complexion of the match. Rejuvenated a lifeless & punchless attack. Every choice he made was the correct one. Desperately unlucky not to score.

Allsop 5- didn't have much to do but remains indecisive on 50/50 balls.
Eardley- 6 Little off pace today but dealt with a strong pacey wing attack
Bostwick- 5 One of his off games. Rash diving in challenge
Wharton- 7 Remains a key player in the team, Strong today.
Habergham 6- As per Eardley
Whitehouse 5- lots of hustle and bustle but not a great end product
Woodyard 6 Chased endlessly and broke attacking play up well
Frecklington 6 Gaining fitness and strength and had a couple of chances
Anderson 4- poor, lightweight, didn't provide any variation or options in attack
Rhead 5- He is what he is but hasn't scored now for eons
Green 7 chased endlessly and caused lots of problems down right wing 2nd half.

Palmer 9 exceptional substitution- offered so much today and changed the game around
Pett 5 Not much impact but no better or worse than Whitehouse
Waterfall 8 Solid and then an immense finish

Alsop 6.5 Didn't have many saves to make.
Eardley 7 got his foot in a number of times to block crosses. put in some decent balls into the box too
Bostwick 6 steady, i thought his distributions wasn't too good today. unlucky with the red, but had lost his man.
Wharton 6 defended well in the first half. we seemed to get opened up a couple of times in the 2nd half. wasnt sure if DC took him off to shore up the defence, or if carrying a knock.
Habergham 5- freekicks and corners were awful. just about every one sailed over everbodys head for a goal kick
Whitehouse 7 energetic, lots of contribution, cool penalty under pressure to send the keeper the wrong way
Woodyard 6.5 had a battle on his hands in midfield, i think he came out slightly on top,
Frecklington 5.5 - didn't see much from Lee today
Anderson 5- needs to work on his composure, thats running with the ball and shooting
Rhead 7 - i thought Rhead played well today. he won no end of balls with his head. he was having to head the ball down to himself a number of times due to lack of support, which he did successfully. i was impressed with his movement, first touch and passing as well. he looked knackered in the last 15 mins though.
Green 5- quick feet, slow brain. no doubt he run, but decision making is lacking. has an ability to never be in the right place at the right time. I know he's scored 13 this season, but thats the return you would expect from a striker for a team below the play-off positions.

Palmer 8- a right handful. for me he isn't a like for like replacement for Rheady. he's got a lot more to his game than that. he has come on a lot this season. I'd start him alongside Rhead.
Pett 5 - invisible man. apart from the 2 points to Widnes Conversion that went sailing over the BMF stand
Waterfall 7- excellent. shored up the defence when he came on. Almost scored with a header within minutes of coming on. Sealed the win in the last second.

An edgy performance, the record books will say we won but it's a win to counter those 'we'd have won/drawn if only' games.

Allsop-7-always tidy, mainly housekeeping. Nearly kept the goal out
Eardley - 7 - solid defensively, got forward well
Bostwick - 6 - generally held the line well, thought his distribution was ok. Unlucky with the red (against a player who shouldn't have been on the pitch), worth the appeal.
Wharton - 6 - this lad is good. did Mandron's elbow take him out of the match?
Habergham - 5 - sorry Sam, really like you as a player, but this was a bad day. Never got forward enough, poor set pieces.
Whitehouse - 7 - best part of 4-3-3, so improved compared with last season, cool with the penalty.
Woodyard - 7 - up to his usual standard, slip let Colchester in for a good chance, but gets an assist for the winner - rubbish cross, mind.
Frecklington - 6 - give him a preseason. Worked hard, needed to be calmer with shooting chances.
Anderson - 5- lost the plot at the moment, can be electric but currently running by candle power. Fitness? Confidence?? Method, as 4-3-3 has different demands??? Frustrating, he can be so much better.
Rhead - 5 - I think this level has now found him out. Some good headers, some fine touches, but lack of mobility, 'dying swan' moments are becoming a reoccurring theme. Seriously b****cked by Eardley for selling him short, leading to Colchester;'s goal.
Green-7.5- running for himself and Rheady at the moment, dead on his feet but still running for the cause at the end. 4-3-3 doesn't play to his strengths but he's a star for the team.

Palmer-8 - unpredictable, always dangerous, stunning strike off the bar; got under a header which might have scored with better timing. Time for a start on Tuesday, his and Green's pace will upset any opponents planning for Rheady.
Pett - 5 - I have high hopes for him next season after a Cowley pre-, but anonymous today.
Waterfall - 8 - magic goal, turning yet another floaty/droppy cross into a thumping header. sound in defence, even did some fancy in possession stuff, with confidence.

Allsop 6 - did not have a lot to do; one save to make at near post not made
Eardley 7 - still our best attacking weapon with some great crosses from open play; solid enough defensively
Bostwick 6 - undeserved red; OK up to then
Wharton 8 - good all round game; played their big lad well
Habergham 5 - disappointing; poor dead balls; half a yard slower than those around him; fading as the season progresses
Whitehouse 6 - extra point for a good pen; just not involved enough
Woodyard 8 - getting better and better; best midfielder on the park; great on the ball; good passing; gets us playing
Frecklington 6 - all the effort but still no end product
Anderson 5 - anonymous; poor control; cannot seem to get past his man at the moment; better out wide
Rhead 6 - average performance; disrupted their defence as usual, but not really a threat; gave the ball away for their goal
Green 7 - usual running; not great on the left in first half and had to do too much tracking; better second half; needs to shoot earlier

Palmer 8 - MOTM; what a half; pace, power; good control; upset their defence; so unlucky not to score; won the pen; probably won us the game
Pett 3 - utterly poor; another JMD; too weak for this league
Waterfall 8 - for a great, great headed winner

Allsop 6.5: did ok but doesnt command his box enough
Eardley 7: weaker game for him. Still gets a good grade.
Bostwick 6.5: A bit unlucky with the red.
Wharton 6.5:
Habergham 5: when contrasted with Eardley it does feel like a weak link
Whitehouse 6: didnt like the penalty Shenanigans much
Woodyard 7.5: passed and moved well. Finds the ball.
Frecklington 5.5: Still not involved enough
Anderson 4: Really good player having a run of bad form
Rhead 6: did his job but we are too 2 dimensional with the hoof to Rhead
Green 7: good performance again

Palmer 8.5: really impressive
Pett 5: didnt notice him
Waterfall 8: great goal!

Watched today on iFollow.

Allsop: 6 Can't rate any higher because he was a passenger for most of the game. Colchester gave him very little to do beyond regulation stuff.
Eardley: 7 How he manages to cross the ball so accurately when the ball is bobbling all over the place is beyond me. Almost our most potent attacking force.
Bostwick: 6.5 Will not deduct anything for the red card because he did nothing wrong and it will be rescinded.
Wharton: 6.5 Not his best game, but took a nasty red card elbow from light-heavyweight boxer Mandron who somehow stayed on the pitch despite delivering two of them.
Habergham: 6 Standard Habergham game, no more, no less.
Whitehouse: 7 Was always involved in midfield although little attacking threat. Cool head with the penalty, although the spat beforehand was unseemly.
Woodyard: 8 MOM. All over the midfield like a rash. Either he is getting in Frecklington's way, or he is covering for him.
Frecklington: 5.5 Barely noticed him, although that might be because Woodyard was so dominant. Creates nothing going forward, which is what I expected him to do when we signed him.
Anderson: 5 Below par. The one chance he did make ended up in the stratosphere. The ball is probably still bouncing towards Caenby Corner right now.
Rhead: 6 Was the victim of a ludicrous decision from the ref in the first 90 seconds when flattened from behind, and that set the tone. Becoming less effective as the season nears its end, did very little to threaten the Colchester goal. Looked like another yellow card for dissent too.
Green: 6.5 Our best striker until Palmer appeared at half time. Was very well closed down by two defenders every time the ball came near.

Palmer: 8 Game changing performance, would have been MOM had he been on from the start.
Pett: 4 Invisible except for one shot which he sent towards Newark. Eddie Waring would have loved it, though.
Waterfall: 8 A typical Waterfall header, worth two bonus marks alone.
