Rate The Players v Accrington Stanley (FLT)

Vital Football Legend
Well, how do you rate that? An outstanding team performance, one of the best in my 50 years watching this club, a feast of scintillating football. Robbie Gotts has his first goal in senior football and the Imps have 60 for the season. Zack again made us wonder what he has to do to get a league game, and Scully was everywhere; Tayo ran the left with LBZE while the defence gave absolutely nothing away. Alex Palmer must be the coldest goalkeeper in football, he had absolutely nothing to do again. No shots on target from Stanley, the poor sod must have been bored stiff. £40,000 in the bank takes our earnings from the competition to £100,000 for the season, and the quarter-finals await. As an added bonus, Charlton screwed up again: an excellent evening.

6.0 is the par score, use half-marks and give us your comments too.

Deadline is 5pm on Thursday.

Palmer 6.5 Spectator and dropped the ball once!!!!

Eyoma 7 Excellent defensively and supporting the attack
Jackson 7 Nothing got past him
Melbourne 7 Better in the centre in my opinion and extremely assured and solid tonight
Edun 8 Excellent throughout at both ends of the pitch. Learning the LB role with every match there

Gotts 7 Excellent headed goal and a fine performance
Bridcutt 7.5 Massive improvement on Saturday's performance. Seemed in much more control of his game tonight
Grant 8 Terrific. Just having the best season of his career

Scully 7 Forgot his shooting boots but was a pain to their defence all match
Johnson 7 Worked hard and scored a nice goal
Elbouzedi 8.5 Arriba Arriba. Scared their defence all night and got us going with that first half goal. Should have scored others though

Howarth 7 Nice little cameo. Led the line well and worked very hard

Palmer 7.5 He dropped one.
Gotts 8 Excellent
TJ 8.5 Superb
Jackson 7.5 did not notice him other than a bizarre miss kick.
Melbourne 7.5 did not notice him
Bridcutt 8 Had something to prove.
Grant 8.5
Edun 8.5
Elbouzedi 9
Scully 9
Johnson 7.5 Not his best but didn't need to be

Howarth 7 well done son

Palmer 6 - I'll let him off the dropped cross
Gotts 7 - strong 2nd half
Eyoma 6.5 - No defending to do so strolled forward and linked well
Jackson 6.5
Melbourne 6.5 - forgot he was playing
Bridcutt 7 - grew into the game strongly, fits my theory it's about match fitness he needs
Grant 7.5 - midfield controlled effortlessly
Edun 8 - all round positive, reliable, assured performance
Elbouzedi 8.5 - a couple of shocker misses but wow factor and match winner when he got it right
Scully 7 - finishing aside (ahem) all round decent game and usual energy
Johnson 6.5 - not as involved as much as others but a good finish for his goal

Howarth 6.5 - industrious and strong play when he came on. Held it up quite well which isn't his game really.

Palmer 6 Nothing to do so par score.
Gotts 7 The only disappointment of the first half, but excellent in the second.
Eyoma 8 MOM. A real threat going forward, always looking for the ball. Excellent game.
Jackson 6 Nothing to do.
Melbourne 6 Better in the centre for sure. Quiet night.
Bridcutt 7 Again nearly gave away a goal at the end of the first half, and conceded several fouls again early on. Commanding performance second half.
Grant 7.5 Excellent all night again.
Edun 7 Unusually didn’t get forward as much as TJ did. Little defending needed.
Elbouzedi 7.5 Great pace all night against a ponderous defence.
Scully 7.5 Could of had a Hat-trick on another night but contributed plenty to a vibrant attacking team display.
Johnson 7 See Scully.

Palmer - 6.5 - One error in claiming a long ball but otherwise cool as ever.
Gotts - 8.5 - Thought he was fantastic today, inventive and full of running. One very important block in our box as well as his attacking play. And a diving header!
Eyoma - 7.5 - Loses half a mark for another dreadful shot at the posh boxes, no-ones in them TJ! Otherwise really good, totally untroubled defensively and some smart passing and ball retention.
Jackson - 7 - Solid and unfussy.
Melbourne - 7.5 - Slotted in well after a break, not overly tested but managed easily and some good distribution.
Bridcutt - 7.5 - Much improved from his previous rusty displays. A couple of poor passes and a few too many fouls but much better control of the game and some more telling passes.
Grant - 8.5 - Can totally dictate an entire game at times. Also so well rounded now as Tommo alluded to, no sulking mercurial (Maddison). Good finish too.
Edun - 7 - One of his silly passes and got caught on the ball once but looks considerably better than earlier in the season. Some smart interplay with Grant and Elbo.
Elbouzedi - 8 - Would be higher if he hadn't fluffed two great chances. Ghosts past defenders and looks immense in the open Trophy games against naff opposition, let’s hope he can convert it to a real game!
Scully - 7.5 - His tireless running led to a goal again winning it back and turning it over for a counter. Several fantastic crosses but should have scored.
Johnson - 7.5 - Got his goal in the end and perhaps should have had more.

Howarth - 8 - A really impressive cameo, less greedy this time. Some surprising hold up play as well as some effective tricks and passing. Lots of energy too, his press set up Jorge’s goal.

Palmer: 6 Had absolutely nothing to do, other than catch a cross at the end of the first half; I could deduct half a mark for spilling it, but that would be uncharitable.
Gotts: 7 Ratted around and got his first goal; good finish, and some nice touches.
Eyoma: 8 Solid as a rock at the back and got forward well; shame about the skied shot.
Jackson: 6.5 Solid when required, but was given very little to do by a poor Accrington side.
Melbourne: 6.5 No problems whatsoever, and some nice passes in the first half.
Bridcutt: 7.5 Almost back to his impressive best, which is a relief after Saturday.
Grant: 7.5 Very consistent, and probably too good for League One now. Shhhh!
Edun: 8 He really is an excellent attacking midfielder, great vision and the right player in a passing team.
Elbouzedi: 8 A mark off for missing two good chances, but too good and too fast for Accrington.
Scully: 7.5 Buzzed around down the right with great energy; improving with every game, but could have had a hat-trick as others have said.
Johnson: 7 Just part of an attacking unit that was simply too good for the opposition.

Howarth: 7 Good cameo, fitted straight in and caused problems.

Palmer 6- he dropped a cross!! The world shifted on its axis. Got away with that, competent otherwise but mainly - cold.
Gotts - 7.5 - best game in midfield, some great passing and an unlikely first goal and Rheady impersonation in one.
Eyoma - 7.5 - free to venture forward, caused mayhem down the right and a tackle and turn late in the match which had me shouting 'ole'. Need to practice the shooting though TJ
Jackson 6- quiet night at the office against the most toothless attack we've encountered this season.
Melbourne 6- see Jackson
Bridcutt 7.5- off the pace since coming back from injury, but really hit his rhythm tonight, especially in the second half and should be a key player in the next few weeks.
Grant 8 - thriving in the forward CM role, class mixed with hard work. Not the player DC signed - he's moved to a much higher level under MA's coaching.
Edun 7.5 - similar to TJ on the left, Accrington's formation didn't seem to counter our marauding full backs.
Elbouzedi 8 - two early misses soon set aside with a fine run before completing the move with a composed finish for the first, and assist/near assist with 2 more goals. Pace combined with awareness for a good final ball, hopefully more involved in forthcoming games.
Scully 7 - cracking first half followed by a more subdued second, he's a good finisher so hopefully got a few of his duffs out of the way tonight.
Johnson 7.5 - another defence terrified, always a threat and nice finish for his goal. Hope foot injury is not serious.

Howarth 7- lively, some good touches and passes.

Defenders average scores reflect how piss poor powder puff Accy were. It was a night for the attackers to show their qualities and they did in spades (are we allowed to use such phrases still). If that is the standard of Accys back up players they are screwed when injuries bite sand they get their annual fixture back log.
