Ramsbottom: the relegation exploits of Derby County

However, the original premise was that Forest and Derby would compete for it every year, with a friendly being played when the two teams were not in the same division.

That was pertinent at the time because Derby had just been promoted to the Premier League and Forest had just lost to Yeovil in the L1 playoffs, so the Trophy started with a friendly at Pride Park, which I attended. That was meant to be the pattern of it.

However, they got relegated the following season, we were promoted and we shared a division for the next 14 years, so it never really came up again.

When we were promoted I was surprised that we didn't arrange a friendly with Derby as per the original intention. I guess everyone at both clubs just forgot or lost the desire.

Don't see why we can't do it as a pre season game. Would be nice to get some silverware before the league begins.

Am I right in thinking that one of them on the old 606 used to have how many days since Forest were in the PL in their name? If so, how many days has it been since they've been in the PL? Surely it's more than our absence from it.

That was Jom, who as you know, switched from derby to Forest

I remember them when they tried to game the system with their stadium- all about how genius Mel was running rings around the league. Not fooking laughing now are they!

Karma's a bitch eh...

My mates business nearly went bust because they didn't pay their bills. He's a derby fan as well.

By the sounds of it they probably pushed for the idea of the trophy when they were having the upper hand , probably wanted to rub our noses in it . That went well :grinning:
This is why Forest should be organising a game of it, and advertising that Forest want to play it.

They won the inaugural game 2-0 at Pride Park. Pretty sure Robbie Earnshaw was one of their scorers, can't remember the other one.

I remember them all singing "that's why we're Premier league" after both goals. They were loving having two divisions between us.

Didn't last long of course

This would only be a distraction as we hopefully will be preparing for European ties early season. We would have to play the U21’s or B team. Not even the reserves in squad.

Police advice was not to have it

Its frankly wild that folk want to invite Derby, its team or their fans an opportunity to kick shit out of our lads, via a pre-season friendly.

When they rise again, and we meet in the Championship, then rivalries can be rejoined.

Direby can’t even beat the Forest lads when they team up with your beloved Leicester

Interesting premise…combined Derby/super foxes XI, chap?

Guess outcome would depend if we set up to counterattack this super emidz conglomeration?

If so, I reckon we could sneak it 2-1.
Goals for Yatez and Domz. One for Vardy.

What do you reckon, me ol’ mucka?

Yes, there was that pre- season game against Alfreton Town where one Alfreton player did a dangerous challenge on someone from Forest- can't remember who now, or even if it was Alfreton! Anyway, the point is the same: having sheepshaggers kick out at Forest pre- season may not be the best idea.
