I just don't bloody get it.

Vincent Tan is saying Dave Whelan is racist for using the word chink.

Now I hate Dave Whelan, but I've got to stick up for him here, as I didn't even know the word chink was derogatory.

Chinese man... shorten it... = chink.

Much in the same way a British man.... shorten it... = Brit

Where's the racism?

I'm fed up of it all to be honest... the only thing that causes racism is not what people say, it's how people react.

Is Jock racist for Scots? Probably not at the moment but the day someone high profile takes offence to it then it probably will be....

Idiots who get offended should be lined up and shot.... Chinks especially. lol
 
People seem to be looking for excuses to be outraged, I suppose it keeps the important stuff off the front pages.

Those of a certain generation think nothing of using the slang they always have, even though it is seen as un pc these days, it doesn't automatically make them racist.

It is like anything, it depends how words are used.

The worst word in the world used wrong is ALL.

All whites are this, all blacks are that etc.

Unless you've met all of any group, how the hell would you know?!

Just dealt with a similar issue on another site, press trying to whip up a storm about two or three posters out of 8000, no mention of the fund raising or good work done just straight to the few posts that could offend.

The worst are those who get offended on 'others' behalves... The couple of stories I've said before about disabled comments and 'those poor people' etc...
 
Whelan is also of a certain generation, not saying it is right or wrong, but they didn't grow up in a pc world.

Yeah, but people in their 60's and over it is really true for, and those in their 70's and 80's don't get it at all... Different world back then.

I remember Doug saying to Naz 'I was watching a programme on one of yours the other day'.... Naz is from Pakistan. Naz being Naz just laughed!
 
I hate the way **** is deamed racist but people call polish people poles and that doesnt seem to be any kind of problem. Wierd that one hey.

Some of it is context and how words are used.

The problem online is some of the things we all post are funny because we all know each other, those who don't though....!

Some things are blown out of proportion, other stuff I guess people just need to show a bit more restraint!!
 
I`m not kidding here,but when we were kids (in the 70`s)my brother`s nickname was NIGGA.
His name is Nigel.
He was a fanatical skateboarder and they all had new, radical,in nicknames that had to be written/sprayed or painted onto all their personal items.There was a big gang of nutty boarders with equally silly nicknames.(Eggy was one I remember)
Absolutely no racism whatsoever was meant by it,but as we grew up and started drinking in town and getting the last 16 back to Handsworth Wood,you can imagine the shit that went off when someone got on and shouted,Allright Nigga.

But we lived next door to a family of West Indians(11 in total and half of them were probably on the same bus home,and even they called him Nigga.
It was a bit of a laugh and sometimes a bit chaotic.
One of our mates was called Rubberlips ,purely because he had rubber lips.We`d have called it him whatever colour he was.Nicknames were for a piss take not a racism card.We had Bandy(me),Irish,Washo,Urgo,Rubberlips,Nigga,Jaffa, Noddy,Ricky.It was our own little piss take of eachother.We spent all day,every day at school ,then out of school with eachother.We were mates,not racist,just mates taking the piss

Whelan also said Jews are obssessed with making money more than anyone else. He's a nasty anti-Semitic
