Race Issues/Riots/Protests/BLM

I read the article and the further I got into it, the more that I got to feel that if America goes down this route, many years into the future it will find itself resembling Zimbabwe, where they the threw out the baby with the bath water.

This has been out in the world for decades. I don't think its a coincidence that we're coming into an election cycle and the Republicans have all started to talk about this at the very same time. They didn't talk about this at all at the height of COVID or protests with George Floyd's murder.

Schools are for teaching academic subjects.

We also do Art in school, there are numerous pieces without CRT that are historical e.g. redlining, the basis of the US constitution. BTW in America core academic subjects include civics and government, this falls into that too.

Are they? I would imagine as you are educated, as is your good lady, that you think the rest is for you to teach your kids? But do you not see where that falls down? Not all parents are like your goodselves.

I think schools should be there for a rounded education, skills, climate, race, and things like protecting yourself (martial arts being perfect) and practical skills like cpr.

BUT of course, there are the moral dilemmas in a rounded education, do you teach all religions or none. And so on.

Interested in your take on this though, as not all kids are academic but could be taught fantastic skills and be made to feel just as vital in life.

I guess I'll have to write a longer post on this later when I have a bit of time.

You are right that I feel that social issues, moral behaviour etc is the responsibility of the parents to teach their kids, not the school. You are also right that not all parents can or will teach their kids these things. Perhaps my perspective is distorted because my wife and I are both university graduates. Maybe it's more of a middle class thing to feel it necessary to impart your social and moral behaviours on your children.

Still issues like climate change, racial issues, economic policy etc are complex. The sort of simple 'primary school' solutions aren't going to make any difference in the real world.

We separate our plastic waste from the other stuff at home. The mrs fills up a bag of plastic and puts it in the bin room where all of the other waste goes. She hopes that the cleaned and separated plastic waste goes to a recycling plant but honestly, who knows where it goes? And anyway, plastic waste is bad and having less of it is good but even if we recycled 100% of plastic used, it wouldn't make any difference to climate change. My kids are being taught that recycling plastic will prevent climate change, that they can "save the planet". It's all feel- good nonsense supported by jingoistic phrases and token gestures.

Anyway, I'll write a proper post about this when I have more time.

It has been out for decades CDX but everthing seems to have more momentum now.

Did we need to know the religion of the bloke carrying the British flag at the Olympics today? This is why we have divides because everyone and everything has to have a label.
Stop mentioning difference and we might just get all treated the same, just one of my thoughts

You did have to know, because that was the whole point.

A Republican strategist was taped admitting they are deliberately demonising it now. Its a coordinated attack on it. Most of what is taught in schools isn't CRT, but they are deliberately labelling it as such.

It seems that these days, Republicans don't stand for anything, and can only create faux problems. Last election it was socialism. That failed.

Yeah, 100% get all that and my guess was right.

Still think a well rounded education is what we should all receive, never felt mine was, don't know about you. I was lucky, my parents taught me how to do diy, put a wash on, change a plug (old times!) and so on, but many don't do things like that.

And yes, down to the quality of the education, not just bullshit brainwashing as well.

As a white, British male with atheist views on religion, I agree.

Hear what you are saying, but if I had kids at school I wouldnt want a bunch of left wing teachers teaching this. Sorry its paywalled, but you get the essence of it from the headline.

Primary school pupils should learn about white privilege, says ...

15 Jun 2021 — The materials, seen by The Telegraph, are designed to help schools include black, Asian and ethnic minority people in RE syllabuses.

Indeed, absolutely you don’t want any leftish shit. Just general education and understanding one another.

I have a view that there is a nature element to our bias. Often, lefties will put it all down to nurture, and blame it all upbringing, which is partly true - but I believe we need to just be straight up about it. My white, 3 year boy wants to play with the white, 3 year old boys. We have to tell him he can play with the Asian girls, and educate him on it.

I’ve mentioned before there was a fascinating programme on TV not so long ago, which did all these tests on babies through to children. They would - at a certain young age - go to the toddler who looked like them and avoid the one who didn’t. It’s a basic survival instinct.

You see it on here sometimes, people often call out other ethnicities but perhaps struggle to objectively see those who look like them doing something wrong. I don’t know the psychology of this stuff, but it does intrigue me.

The following is lifted from an article by openDemocracy, and just about sums it up really.
"Who can blame white people in a working class Rochdale neighbourhood for giving up and leaving when the culture of their neighbourhood changes so much that they are actually excluded. The pubs all go, the shops change to sell produce that in some places becomes entirely Asian in stock, the schools become 95 percent brown, playground priorities shift. Sadness and even anger at this kind of thing, if you lack the resources to get out or change it, is understandable. Is it possible to express anger at this situation without it being de facto racism"
For most that dont like the situation they simply vote with their feet, which exascerbates the problem, leaving areas that then become like so many of our northern towns, and parts of my home city of Brum, totally divided.

You should be allowed to move wherever you want without criticism.

What is a little funny is we ask immigrants to move in and assimilate into communities. Yet we don’t make one single consideration about any of the above reason why someone may feel excluded from an area. It’s different when the shoe is on the other foot.

I totally get it though, if you can’t avail of simple stuff like your regular shopping that makes life a bit harder. Then your amenities are gone e.g. pubs and restaurants. Then that’s not a very nice situation either.

Just food for thought when people essentially say “forget your culture and old life”. Not all communities don’t make people feel welcome but I think sometimes we don’t try. I know it can be like that in some places in Ireland and obviously it’s like that in the US.

I think it boils down to some immigrants being more welcome than others, and people being more accepting of some nationaities than others.
Not saying that is right or wrong, but it is how it is.

For me, it depends if they are legal immigrants or Illegal.
I've worked with Engineering staff who have come literally from all over the world but I'm talking about educated skilled people, not some illegal immigrant who has crossed on a rubber dinghy and is beholden to run drugs for the gang who got him here and yes I'm talking about a case my stepdaughter is or was working with.

Not they are not all drug runners rapists and Murders but neither are they all Engineers Doctors or Nurses either as most professionals can come by a legal route.

I think the average Brits only mixes with the same social class of immigrants as themselves or the area in which they live.

I don't mix with illegal immigrant that front car washes and run drugs for gangs, I have however worked with many that are Engineers, designers, Purchasing professionals. We can't lump them all into one category and say I don't or do like them.
I hate the illegal asylum seeker the that stabbed my friend to death in Birmingham 3 years ago but I'm not supposed to say that as it may offend someone who works with one that now a fine upstanding member of society.

There's a big difference. We can't class them as all the same either way

The bottom line to me is we just can't accept anyone who fancies rocking up here, they have to go through a process, just like I would if I wanted to go and live in Australia.

Don't matter where you come from. If you are skilled and are of benefit to the country. And you will work and contribute and be a normal human... Then we could be 99% BAME as far as I'm concerned. Would t bother me in the slightest.
However.... These dingy crossers. They are all men... Mid 20s or 30s. Where are the women and children escaping such dangers? Where are the elders?
And what prospects do they have?
Are they skilled? Will they work? Do they even speak English? Which would at least be a start?
Why are they in such danger in France?
Is there a risk of them being a criminal? If they don't speak English and are not skilled how exactly are they going to earn money? Apart from getting involved in crime?
Where the hell are they going to live? They have no money, no job...???
So either a life of crime?... Possibly?
Or live off our benefit system?
Great.

Club 18-30 holidays at our expense, I did see a woman and a child on one of the boats but yes they are mainly Club 18 to 30 . or 15 years old when they get asked as apparently according to my stepdaughter who works on some other cases if you claim to be under 18 despite obviously being 20 they can't deport you.
hence me knowing that he runs drugs for a gang based in London who smuggled him over.
The stories she's told us you wouldn't believe and she is the most compassionate liberal leftie feminist person I've ever met. She has no preconceived views on anyone.

Yes, I agree with that.
When we lived in Brum our immigrant neighbours were all Indians, who were professional people or business owners, who in general where great neighbours.
Its when the riff raff move in and all the other social problems that follow them around start to manifest in the area that people get pissed off and start leaving.

people used to move away because of colour but these days it is a class thing, same with Indians the posh ones live on one side of the Hagley rd in Harbourne, the less affluent live on the other side in Smethwick. Just the way it is, we live in a class system her far worse bigotted than any race issue.

During my time in education. You would not believe how many 'children' we had who were adults.
The schools are not allowed to refuse. That's social services job. The one lad we had we had to wait that long for a dental age check he had ready left year 11 by the time we found out. We did find out. When he left school he was 26 years old.
Another one.... Now bearing in mind schools are not allowed to refuse.... I had a meeting with one claiming to be 15.... No word of a lie .. he was at least 40. And that is no exaggeration. I went straight to the head.... She came down, took one look at him and she told social services to take her to court if needed but that he must be taken off site straight away. Which they did. And never returned. Scary.

do you know if they claim to be under age you are not allowed to do tests on them to establish how old they are, this is how bloody stupid our laws are
