Mothering Sunday/Mother's day for you guys so you don't get into trouble with your Mom's :17:

Look after your Mom and cherish her. 1 day you will turn around and find Mom has gone and wonder where time flew too.

In loving memory of my Mom and why I always say Mothering Sunday. Mom hated the term Mother's day. She said it was so commercialized a term.

I used to go and collect pansies for Mom at church to give her every year. It was something our Church did.

Now I will go and lay flowers in the park where her ashes are under a cut down tree stump hidden I found with a little note from us all. I have been doing this since Mom died at Mothering Sunday, her birthday and Christmas.

I only buy inexpensive flowers just encase they get found and nicked which is unlikely however it is about the symbol.

The 1st time we let off balloons for her. We got some right odd looks. I didn't care.

It is so damn hard going int he shops and not able to buy a proper card for her.

Would probably be in serious trouble if the council caught me but what the hell. The flowers will rot into the ground eventually. I wouldn't put anything there that was bad for the enviroment

Like you kefkat, I have lost my mom.............. and dad.

My mom passed away the day after my birthday, so even that is a painful reminder. But as far as Mothers Day goes, sadly it doesn't really bother me any more as I am not in the UK now as you know. I will however remember the good times on Sunday.

My mom chose to have me. That is reward enough.

Should be a sons day though ( not daughters because girls are naughty)

I do not need a special day to celebrate my mother, and this is a disturbing trend of modern society that marketing opportunities are being sold to the public as 'special days'. These corporations don't give a shit about my mother, your mother or probably their own mothers. If you need a special day to show your mother you love her, what the fuck are you doing for the other 364 days? You should be ashamed.

Can't argue with that Wurzel, any day is a good day to give some flowers, a hug, some nice words, whatever to your mother!

Yeah my Father dead too. He died when I was 18. I didn't know him in a real sense as he was emotionally unavailable and lived a total lie as I came to find out over the years so Father's day has no connection for me, just Mothering Sunday

Don't have that option anymore Wurzel has Mom is not here, though I do talk with her everyday as if she was

Awesome card in the post this morning from my youngest son who lives abroad. It was a notelet card and inside he had put 'Happy English Mother's day' in it  )

When something happens good, or bad
All I still want to do
Is call your number and share my news with you.
For you were always there for me
At any time of the day
And in my mind I can still hear
The things you used to say..
Now life, is not the same
and though I am fully grown
Without you here, I feel so lost
and somehow so alone.
I just wish I had told you
Every time we were in touch
How wonderful you were
That I loved you very much.
Every year on Mothering Sunday
I know the tears will come
For I know there will never be a time
When I don't miss you Mom

Happy Mothering Sunday Mom. Here is a spiritual pansy for you in heaven just like I used to give you as a little girl. Oh and have a word with Papa about Villa too ;o)

It's the third Mothering Sunday without you but it doesn't get any easier. I know you are still with me in spirit Mom. It's your physical presence I miss so dearly. RIP Mom 18 07 1925 - 15 12 2010.

Here's what our eldest daughter said on Facebook on Friday.

"Today is international women's day. In Russia they make a huge deal of today. It's a national holiday, all women and girls all honoured, brought out for dinner and given flowers by the men / boys in their lives. We were in Russia this day 3 years ago and it was great.
Much better idea than mothers day, because of course not all women are mothers but all women need to be honored.
So much love to all the wonderful women and girls in my life, my mother and mother in law, my sisters and sisters in law, my six amazing nieces, my aunties and cousins, my great friends, my sisters in the gospel and last but definitely not least my beautiful daughter.
How lucky am I."

I like these sentiments not least because I know women who can't have children for whatever reason and who will have stayed home all day today because they can't bear the hype associated with Mothers' Day.
I think also that I'm a pretty lucky man to have not only one lovely daughter but three.

Well whatever your thoughts, I hope all Mothers of Vital Villans had a good day anyway.

I wish my Mother has still here to enjoy the day..............

By modern you mean the 1920's?

If you like, one only has to look at the advertising on TV to see the commercialisation . Funnily enough by 1920 the founder of mothers day was already pissed of that the meaning was being corrupted.
