Quick question

Would I be right in assuming that all those who backed the sacking/non contract renewal of Clarkson also called for the sacking of Dion Dublin for head butting Savage, on the pitch, in front of a TV camera, women and children at Villa Park?

:69:

Juan, your point is actually a good one. I believe that if someone commits a common assault, wherever it is, then they ought to be arrested. If this happened a few times, it would soften the cough of more than a few football and rugby players.
Likewise, if someone argues with the referee, he ought to get a yellow card.
Bring back the birch, says I!

A third thread....? I think you are punishing me!

I was surprised Dublin wasn't done for assault. Same as a lot of the stuff Barton has done. How is it allowed on a field of play but not on the terraces?

Quick question back, do you seriously think Clarkson on his final warning anyway, shouldn't have been sacked for punching a work colleague?

Good point Juan. People seem to have different rules depending on if they like the person in question or not.

By a lot of peoples JC rules, Dublin should have had his Villa contract terminated.

I'm sure he was fined. Maybe a fine for JC would have been enough.

Yes it is a fair point. Do I agree with the sacking? I don't think the BBC have been left with alot of choice to let Clarkson go in this day and age. I think he had to be let go. The timing worked perfectly for the BBC though. Glad it wasn't my final decision to make.

I blame Cloughie he started all this off. :17:

He hasn't been sacked, his contract isn't being renewed.

He was on thin ice / final warning anyway. Was Dublin?

I repeat my earlier reasoning, we do not know what has happened, we do not know the circumstances, so how can we have a valid opinion?

Do we know if in this heated argument that the younger producer didn't make a move towards old man Clarkson that caused him to fear for his safety thus acting in self defense? Remember, you only have to feel threatened in the eyes of the law to make a violent response acceptable (doorman's handbook)

Regarding his "final warning" It is common for management to warn their employees for their behaviour in public while giving them a pat on the back in private for earning them so much money, Clarkson is a product, a caricature, his headline grabbing behaviour has been filling the BBC coffers for years, so I take this "final warning" stuff with a very large pinch of Himalayan pink rock salt.

So in answer to your question, yes, I do seriously think, I find it helps to prevent knee damage from all the jerking.

Actually, we do know. Witnesses report that Oisin Tymon did nothing to Clarkson, before, during or after the attack. It will be interesting to see the full facts, but as the Police are looking into it that probably won't happen for some time.

The BBC had no choice. They are held to even higher standards than most employers, due to the nature of their funding. I love Top Gear, and am sad to see it's end, but that does not condone these actions.

On a wider note, we live in a namby, pamby World these days, and I do think these sort of things could be handled differently. It's probably why he reported it himself, in an attempt to nullify some of the impact. Not all progress is necessarily for the better.

What is wrong with jerking?

And I've said the same in one of the 300 odd threads Juan that it is difficult to judge without the full facts.

However, seems some of the facts are out according to Heath.

I find myself agreeing with Heath, that when we do make progress from the old way it ends up going to the extremes and there is no balance

I just think it sad that possibly the greatest man of our generation, possibly even the greatest man that ever lived should be treated this way.

He should be knighted, not sacked. Long live King Jezza!

Don't worry, he might stand for Parliament, and eventually become Prime Minister, even Overlord of Planet Earth. All is not lost. Keep the faith.

I though you were on about Zayn from 1D then Deano.

Now that is a tragedy :17:
