Exeter hadn't scored in their previous four games. The Millers didn't even have a shot on target. This is poor stuff, even by L2 standards.

A lot of our problems are in midfield. Ashley plays walking football. Fitzgerald isn’t in the game at all. It’s as if they are all counting on someone else to do the hard work. I like Alex Bruce but he needs to sort this out - it’s the same pattern every week.

That was embarrassingly bad. We have a few average players and a lot of very bad ones. I don’t know whether they care but a lot of them certainly look like they don’t. I can accept defeat when we have a go but that was truly pathetic. A few said last season that we couldn’t drop to league two. Anyone who thinks we are safe from relegation to the national league needs to watch that performance again and wake up.

I think a manager should be given some time to work. He says a lot of the right things and he does try to change things when they aren’t working. The problem is that too many of players are not very good. It’s starting to look like our recruitment has been poor - again. This is where I have issues with the Director of Football structure. We don’t know whether AB has had much say in the players that have been recruited. Is it him or Rob Scott or Steve MacLaren who makes those decisions? Ultimately fans will call for AB to be sacked if things don’t improve, but what is SM’s job exactly, how much time is he spending doing it and how accountable is he, if at all, if things spiral? By the way, the post-match interview with Mullin was just done by Andy Giddins on Radio Sheffield. The line of questions was basically ‘things have been going well lately - where did that come from?’. They are so blinkered. One way of looking at things is that we have been unbeaten in three or four games. Another is that we were awful at Northampton and scraped a win, beat York reserves and juniors on penalties after being second best and were shockingly bad when drawing against Crewe. We haven’t really played well all season. More than ten games into the season in all competitions, and I am not optimistic at all about this season. We look dreadful.

Well, you have the advantage over me, Clean, because I never listen to what managers (head coaches) say. I'm not interested. I judge them on how the team performs. That's it. We are dreadful. AB is the HC. McClaren is HoF. Scott is DoR. Someone in this byzantine structure isn't performing. That said no doubt someone will spring up with statistics of every club within a hundred miles to prove that actually we are doing better than anyone has a right to expect.

Welcome back , Lindum. Unfortunately, in your absence the Millers standard of play and the injury situation has got even worse!
Thank you, Mike. Your earlier kindness was noted and appreciated. I haven't really been away. The fabled b-in-l to whom I have often referred sadly died a few weeks ago and I didn't much feel like posting. Anyway, I'm back on duty now.

I actually commented that I wondered if they'd changed the game to walking football!

Eyestone did nothing wrong. Aljofree always tries hard. Austerfield and Mullin weren’t great but they both put a shift in. Kaleta was our only real threat until he tired. The rest of them need to have a serious think about whether they could have done more today. There’s an old saying in football that you won’t always have a good game but even on a bad days you can and should help your team by working hard. Too many of our lads failed to do that today. The closing diwn was awful. We allowed the ball to bounce instead of attacking it. We were second to almost every second ball. Honestly it was a grim watch.

I agree that AB should be given time. I wasn't surprised by the result (I wouldn't have been surprised at 0:0 or 0:1 either) but the performance was a bit of a shocker. I look forward to Dave Rawson's take and whether he still believes 'we have got our Rotherham United back.'
