Question for those into "Affirmative Action"

I doubt any of you are playing too closely to localised politics in the US, but California are currently voting on this following bill:

https://ballotpedia.org/California_Repeal_Proposition_209_Affirmative_Action_Amendment_(2020)

The main summary point is:

1592652467914.png

In essence, if it passes and becomes law in November, it would mean governmental organisations, education facilities etc could put up job adverts with requirements such as:

Women only / No Men
BAME only / No Whites
No Christians / Non-Christian religions preferred.
Members of the LGBTTIQQ2SABS community only / No Straights

As per the bill title, this is being proposed in the name of "Affirmative Action".

If passed this would enable the people in power to hire on the basis of identity factors, and therefore it would be easier to hit (unofficial) diversity quotas.

Question for those who think "Positive Discrimination" is a good thing, do you think the UK should follow suit and amended the Equality Act 2010 so that it is possible to have identity specific employment placements if it is done in the name of affirmative action?

Sounds wrong at every level BUT if its true that interviewers would only offer it to candidates who match criteria based on race, gender, etc to fill quotas then it would save people wasting their time.

If the usa had followed the hire who you want policy instead of positive discrimination then it would be in a worse place now.

Horses for courses, in the usa it was the right policy for the times as they were coming out of segregation. In the uk not so much needed, just enforcement of the law.

So called "Affirmative Action" should be called out for what it is - "racism" (or sexism or any other form of discrimination).

But worse, it completely fails to treat people as individuals.

Instead it treats them as members of a "clone army", with the bizarre assumption that anyone with the relevant characteristic (colour, sex, whatever) has the same thoughts and aspirations and is therefore "representative.

In short it is the opposite of "liberal".

In 1986 US Judge Powell ruled against an example of "Affirmative Action"
In the case Sheet Metal Workers v. EEOC, 478 U.S. 421 (1986), Powell said:

"it is completely unrealistic to assume that individuals of each race will gravitate with mathematical exactitude to each employer or union absent unlawful discrimination."

Is California different ?

Then why did it actually work for the first 10 years in the usa?
