Queer?

I was just reading about a young gay lad who was kicked out of his house for being gay and people donated $90k to him so he used it build a homeless shelter for gay homeless people who are gay.

(Note to self, don't make shit jokes when you are trying to ask a serious question)

Anyway, the article uses the word 'queer'. Is it okay to call someone queer? I thought that was not cool. Have all the benders in the PC brigade decided to let us use queer again?

(I just can't help it. It is a serious question though)

Read about that inspirational young man here: http://m.mic.com/articles/98420/gay-teen-disowned-by-parents-just-paid-it-forward-in-the-best-way-possible?utm_source=policymicTWTR&utm_medium=ID&utm_campaign=social

I still want to reclaim the word "gay" and use it to mean happy so I expect I'm not the right person to answer this question, you puff!

I always preferred the word puffter to puff. I had a teacher in school who always stressed the u sound in words like computer and ruler. One of the guys used to impersonate him and almost every sentence had the word puffter in it. Good memories.

I always say when it's nice ''what a gay day'' i got it off Frank who was this old bloke i worked with and he learned me it meant happy, i'd say it's a gay day today for me tbh

As for the word queer, i think that is old days now, i don't here that anymore,

Let`s be honest here, the word "queer" used to mean not normal as in : I feel a bit queer meaning I`m not right.Or 6 buses have just arrived all at once.Have they ? well that`s a bit queer. So if being not right was the reason gay people were labelled as queer, then i suggest as gay people are an accepted part of "normal"life, then we shouldn`t use the word.
Having said all that I use the word when I`m larking about.
The phrase I used to hear all the time was "as bent as a nine bob note."
In the 80`s there were quite a few of us in a drinking club and one of the guys was gay.We all called him Fat Fingers. His partner had got pissed one night and decided to tell us all a few stories.Mind you,he wasn`t all there, cos he`d stuck his head out of a train window and had a whack on the side of his head.
I`ll leave the rest to your imagination.

In the North East if you hear someone say he's a queer fucker it actually means he's a hard fucker.

They'll always be raving benders to me.

I think the word queer just went out of fashion didn't it? Don't remember it ever being though of as un-politically correct.

I'm pretty sure if you ask them they prefer to be called bumders, but don't quote me on it. I've never even been up the brown highway to shitsville.

True story when I first moved up here I had a altercation with a drug dealer proper bully scum bag and he ended up prostrate.Few days later I was in the boozer and the talk of the town and a lad said to me your a queer fucker you and I said you what mate and that's how I found out what it meant.

So VOTN, do you tell people that you are feeling gay?

I would like to but I suspect they would misunderstand. :34:

Fast show ... The old comedian... 'How queer' which in that time, (30's) meant how strange.

Last time I heard queer was the channel four programme,,queer as folk or something like that?

Seems an old fashioned word now really.

In conclusion? No idea!

My misses says queer to mean weird, but she's Irish. She's 27, I though it was a pensioners word. The last person I remember using it other than the misses, is my nan.

The correct term , I think you will find ,is homosexualist.
Nob Hound or Mo are acceptable terms but not bum bandit.
