QPR Game

Oscarbon

Vital Champions League
Mssey off injured and Jacobs not fit and that takes two out of three of our best attacking options out of the game.

This will test our strength in depth.

QPR clearly the worst side we've faced thus far but we haven't offered enough to deserve a goal ourselves. Once Massey went off we lost all of our attacking momentum.

QPR really were awful but we turned up without our shooting boots! Another day and we are looking at a hatful! Another dodgy ref, only time he didn't blow was the push on dunks for the goal! I know which of those two teams I would watch every week! Up the Tics

That is becoming a very worrying trend. It’s our biggest weakness under Cook and has been ever since he’s come in. We are so wasteful. In L1 you get away with it most of the time due to the lack of quality within the opposition. But when your against the likes of Hemed and Wells you’ll get punished. Makes next Saturday a must win game now really to keep up momentum. 10 points from 18 would represent a good return going into the break that we’d have probably all taken in July.

Beaten by a referee(Shove on Dunkley, how that was allowed i do not know). Was a poor game to watch. General play from both teams was bad. We looked very weak on our left wing.

Evans was the best player on the pitch, all our chances came from his set pieces. Could of had at least 3 from his deliveries. Powell headed just wide in the first half, Dunkley missed another from close range around 85th mins. Won a lot of 50/50's and headers. Also got forward a fair bit, had a very powerful shot blocked in the box from range. Possible hand ball. Best he's played since his return.

We struggled to break them down. The Subs were really poor as well and didn't influence the game. Windass didn't show much, apart from a good shot in the first half from a lay off from Grigg. Kept the ball well, but never looked like a wide player. Was static with his movement and didn't move to open up space on the flank. Positioned himself in field quite often.

We looked okay in the first 20 mins, Byrne and Massey linked nicely for a chance for Grigg but he missed the ball at the back post.

Didn't play anything like the past 4 games, deep defensive line and slow build up.

Byrne started really well at Rb, had Eze in his pocket. They switched him to the other side and he caused Robinson a lot of problems. Worst game i've seen from Robinson. Was caught out a lot. Lost his fair share of 50/50s. Didn't look comfortable on the ball. Possibly just due to a new partnership with Windass. Byrne was okay on the Wing. James did okay as well, started off a bit shaky but was strong at the end. Won some nice 50/50's deep in their half and got us a few free kicks by running at players.

I thought we were the better side for the majority of the game but never created anything from open play. Was very slow and sideways. To be fair to Qpr they pressed very well and always had pressure on the ball. But it wasn't pretty to watch from either team.

We were all over them and could've had 2 or 3 goals before they got a set piece against the run of play and then the ref missed a push on Dunkley that allowed them to get their goal.

After that QPR who looked absolute garbage gained some confidence and were able to put everyone behind the ball, sat deeper and force us to play in front of them with no chance of hitting them on the counter like we have to all the other teams we've played this season. It became like the games last season where teams make minimal attempt to come at us and just frustrate us. They were forcing us to have to go out wide and cross in and their big defenders outmuscled us in the air and restricted us to very little. As the game went on we never gave up but looked tired and the extra day QPR had to prepared for this game (and the extra travelling we had to do) probably started to play a factor too.

Think that we missed Jacobs and Massey after he went off (looked like possible hamstring), Byrne offered very little as a winger when he was pushed up the pitch (but looked great at full back) and Windass while not poor just didn't offer enough. Think we lost our pentration and would've been better with McMannaman coming on tbh. Grigg did ok when the game was more open but couldn't hold the ball after QPR sat deep and made it into a battle of strength. When Vaughan came on we saw the same issues we have with him - he's just not big or strong enough to be the target man he is trying to be. Vaughan is a trier but he's not what we need for the role we ask him to play.

Powell looked like he took a knock at the end too and if we hadn't used all our subs suspect he may have come off. Let's hope he is ok.

If the ref disallows that goal then it's a different game and i don't think we lose, QPR never really threatened in open play, they are a poor side. But at the same time we had enough decent chances and we couldn't convert them and we had a few players who fell below the standards that they set themselves in reccent games - but i feel a lot of that is down to the fact our team became unbalanced due to injuries and QPRs goal allowed them to drag us into a game that suited them and played against our strengths.

We weren't at our best, but were still by far the better team and deserved at least a point. The ref missing that push on Dunks did us in today goals change games and that dodgy goal changed this one. But at the same time we had enough time and chances to right the wrong and have to look at ourselves and say we could've done better, even though the effort was 100%.

Without trying to get into the debate on reffings again i think the standard of officiating has been really poor so far when it comes to the big calls.

Disapointing result but we can't get too down hearted.

18 shots and 62% possession away from home despite not being at our best is encouraging, just need to start taking more chances. Lost because of a refereeing howler. QPR looked doomed to the drop.

I've yet to see it but the general consensus it appears is that the goal shouldn't have stood. I'm sure if you ask a referee they'll concoct something to justify why it was.

In regards the subs I was surprised to see James brought on for Massey to move byrne in his position. Our 'marquee signing' is a right winger so it is concerning he's not yet deemed good or fit enough to start, let alone to be used for an hour. Personally I was against maccas return for this reason but it begs the question who wanted him back in the first place and what due diligence was done.

Not an entirely surprising result, if ever there is a team to break a duck against its usually us. It's generally tough in this league with this sequence of games so it is understandable if there was fatigue. Rotherham play at Everton on Wednesday whilst we now have week off, so hopefully we can be back at full tilt again next week.

It does feed into the theory Cook didn't want McMannaman but i just find it too hard to believe Sharpe would sign players against Cooks wishes.

I suspect the most likely reason is Cook hasn't been impressed with what he's seen from him against Villa, Rotherham and in training. But i think he should've been on today.

Also cant wait to get Garner available.

Perhaps you're right king, but the fact he won't use him is concerning and raises questions in regards his signing.

Having just seen the goal it was an obvious foul, no question he was pushed out of the way. The referees view wasn't impeded in anyway and it's very disappointing it wasn't given. Another really poor officiating decision I'm afraid to say.

Thankfully cook has gone public with his disapproval at this latest decision. It needed highlighting.

Just like there were posters going OTT on Wednesday's performance we shouldn't be too pessimistic on today's. We are doing quite well in general and a win next week will give us 10 from 6 games......

Non too shabby.

was always going to be a hard game this its always the same after a team gets a good hiding

I can understand referees making mistakes with the speed of the game and obscured views etc. However, serious questions have to raised about todays referee.

He had a clear perfect view of the foul for their goal and it's such an easy decision to make, yet despite that he deliberately makes the wrong decision, to ensure QPR grab the first goal. Why oh why would someone impartial do such a thing?

Whats worse is that it was shown on the screen inside the stadium. The ref ignored that as well. It was a terrible decision. It's criminal that you can lose a game to something that is completely out of the clubs control. Performance a side that ref should not be allowed to ref above league 1 level for the reminder of his time being a referee. They're exclusively bad at and below that level.

If it had been a decision where you could at least see why a mistake is made you can accept that. But there is no argument for that piece of refereeing.

*Edit, Cook's comments to the bbc(Or atleast provided from their source);

Wigan manager Paul Cook, who felt QPR's goal should have been disallowed for a foul by Joel Lynch on Chey Dunkley, said:

"Referees [are] getting key moments wrong - if you get them right then the game just flows to a 0-0 draw and we get on the bus happy.

"Other people can decide if he gets that decision right. We were getting informed on the sidelines that the other officials told him it was a foul.

"Goals change the whole dynamics of a game and that game was changed by that decision. We're very disappointed with it."

Once again you post absolute nonsense that shows your total lack of football knowledge

Evan Cook has critasised the ref for this one and we know he never does that. So it's saying a lot.

I wasnt sure about VAR but after these last few games im now fully behind its implementation asap. It's not perfect but its something we need more of as the refs are proving less and less capable of getting the decisions right. Maybe with the amount of cheating and pace of the game it's genuinely unfair to expect them to be able to get it right but that is just more reason to speed up it's full roll out. I'm sick to death of these game changing decisions getting botched - especially when it's such simple ones like today whete there is no excuse for the ref missing the foul.

It's nice to get key decisions in your favour like we did against Stoke in the first half but I'd prefer to have the decisions all correct for and against as i dont like coming away from games feeling that we've been robbed by incompetent officiating. Maybe if we had VAR it would've seen us beat Forest, lose at Stoke and draw at QPR so it would still be 4 points but id prefer to get what we earned rather than hoping we get enough refereeing mistakes in our favour to balancing out the mistakes they give against us. As i have little faith it will perfectly balance out and by the end of the year i strongly suspect we'll get more against us than for us.

The fact that Cook is apparently saying the linesman told the ref it's a foul qnd he wouldn't listen makes it even even worse.
