Cockroaches wouldn't survive a nuclear holocaust. They live by eating the debris from the ground. The rumour regarding serviving a nuclear blast comes from the fact they can live upto 28 days after losing their heads. They breath through their body and only die after starving to death.
 
Loft insulation doesn't taste like candy floss and don't believe your brother if he says it does.
