You could make an arguable case that just losing Isak has collapsed the house of cards.
Under other managers in the past 15 years, we have had games where we never looked like creating a chance, Cabbage Heed the worst but to an extent McClaren and Parsnip with only Parsnip having any European football of any mention to stop him from having the more than one game per week excuse.
Howe has had that excuse, couple with a striking department not necessarily what he planned for or would be his first choice.
This pre-season, the window and next season, Howe has used up his free life, the last of his 9 lives or his get out of jail card. He knows he needs at least one new proper striker. He knows Gordon is going and probably knows which one of the other purples is as well, so has plenty of time to get things right with the right directors above him and in work so as not to shift any blame there either.
He knows we need another midfielder, another winger, 2 covering full backs and a keeper. There's no excuses not to get these done minimum.
Going back to my original point, if we had got to keep Isak or a decent striker in that hit the ground running then the countless games where we needed another goal to kill a game or to convert the many chances that we seem to create without conversion then our probably 13th or thereabouts finish this season could so easily have been 3rd or thereabouts.

Getting rid of Gorden and getting a decent striker should turn things around a bit. We deserve a bit of luck.

We managed to win quite a lot of games with a poor quality squad by having one or two quality strikers over the last few years so no reason we couldn't do it again.
