Prostate Cancer Cure Shock?

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
Shocker this if it turns out to be right. As the report says, excess testosterone used to be blamed for giving people prostate cancer

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/prostate-cancer-sufferer-cured-by-blasting-tumours-with-testosterone-a7450426.html

Until now, the male hormone had thought to help spur prostate cancer on. And so scientists have traditionally looked to treat it by cutting off the supply of testosterone.

But the new study comes off the back of lab experiments that have seen cancer cells get suppressed or even killed by blasts of the same hormone.

Thanks Sasquatch. He was a life long Villa fan and the last four years would have been very difficult for him, but he would be so excited about this season. I often have a quite word with him about the Villa.

My Dad was treated with eastrogen, it shrunk his tumor until it was time to treat with radiotherapy and then continued for 2 more years in order to prevent reoccurance. He's still going 4 years later so the limitation of testosterone by overpowering with eastrogen worked a treat for him, in addition he regained some of the hair he'd lost...........not to mention a fairly impressive a-cup :10:

Sorry to hear that Wurzel. An awful lot of men die WITH not FROM it but obviously like all cancers, there are the vile aggressive forms.

My pops (granddad) has had it 3-4 years now and they are just keeping an eye on it. He's 83 this year and I would imagine he will die of old age not prostate cancer.

But fascinating these new findings. Even now if you read up on causes you'll see a lot of talk of testosterone - also talk in BodyBuilding mags etc.

My Dad was really lucky, diagnosed with a level 7 cancer. They grade agressiveness from 1-10 with 1 being the most common sort of prostate cancer that takes 20 years or so before it becomes dangerous and 10 being the type that kills in weeks. So Dad's was a pretty agressive strain and with him being 80 years old at the time of diagnosis we were pleasantly surprised when the doctors said that they intended to try to cure him and had high hopes. Thanksfully they managed it and he's now been cancer free for 3 years, 1 year after treatment was stopped. Of course he now has to have regular checks but he's more likely to go due to complicationss connected to diabetes which has already scuppered his ability to walk more than 20 minutes at a time or sleep more than 3-4 hours a night.

Very sad regarding your Dad Rob, I remember when it hapened you mentioned something on here. He was clearly a man you held in great regard.

Good news for me. My Grandad died from it. My Dad has just been treated for it, so I'm kind of resigned to the fact I'm going to get it at some point.

Fingers crossed they sort this cure out before I do.

It's in my family as well Deano so good to see this. I am supposed to visit the Docs regularly for a check but they never seem that overexcited about it!

I I asked my doctor if I should be tested for it . He said that because my grandfather and father had had it that I would probably test positive and I could then enjoy several decades of worry, or we could leave it and wait for some symptoms. I decided to leave it.
