Press conference

On the day that McClaren is strongly linked with the QPR job, you would think every Newcastle fan the world over would be breathing a massive sigh of relief that it is highly unlikely to see a return of the bloke who actually relegated us

But no - the focus still remains on Pardew.....you know the fella who didn't manage to send us down despite having to deal with as much shite in the transfer windows as Benitez has had to?

Thousands and thousands of A4 flyers with the wrong face on with relegation the result the season after he left

Odious, morally reprehensible, arrogant blah blah blah - all terms used to describe Pardew by some of the very same people who still willingly bool up and hand over their money to Mike

Every single one of you who is guilty of the above should hang your heads in shame.....every single one of you who wanted to see the back of Pardew because of moralistic reasons and still tip up at St James' to support Sports Direct have the club's blood on your hands

I can't understand how Benitez is getting stick. He can see the potential of the club as can the supporters and he's telling Ashley he either matches those ambitions or he's off. I always thought we wanted a manager who would stand up to Ashley but maybe not.
Believe me, Benitez's pride will be hurt having to manage whilst being undermined all the time but it's because he can see that if this clubs run properly the sky's the limit, it really is. We've always said nobody knows how big this club is because we've never won anything. I believe that Rafa is our best chance of winning a tin pot. God how I've yearned for an open topped bus parade through the town in front of 100's of thousands of Mags with some glinting silverware bedecked with black and white ribbons.

I think he welcomed the challenge of getting us up, then retaining our PL status. However that clearly isn't enough for him and like I said - he can see the potential of the club. In normal circumstances he would have been long gone but we are a special case and a special football club. If only the fat pig could get his head around that. It's not going to happen and this is going to be the most disappointing summer in a long, long line of them.

It's a nice story...

To agree to work for Ashley without any written assurances was either naive in the extreme or inconsequential

Pardew didnt walk ... he left as palace wanted him (due to his close association with them 91 et al .... surely wasn't for his managerial capabilities) no doubt contributing factors of lack of investment by Ashley , the fact he was very unpopular here and if rumour is ti be believed he had paid of his debts (which got him his job at NUFC) helped him make his mind up though .

I don't think there will be the remotest chance anyone in the future will want him for his managerial capabilities TP.
He's been found out.

The unpalatable truth for the majority of our support is that his perceived competence was made on the back of his partnership with Ashley.

You don't fluke a manager of the season and fifth place,he is most successful manager we have had under MA.

By the way did he not have 5 years left on his contract when he walked, and doesn't that contradict the theory about his debts ?

Spot on vin,
Macs point about working for Ashley knowing his history without written assurances cannot be ignored though and is the major reason I believe Benitez is in the Ashley camp.

His legal team cannot be that naive.

They aren't that naive. Remember all that guff the summer after relegation about things being promised in writing ? Everyone in and even most people out of football know exactly what Ashley's about.

I dissagree totally. No way is Benitez in Ashleys camp because it would mean he's deliberately deceiving the supporters. That's just not his style and as much as you can dispute his style of play you can't question his integrity. Like I said he'll be taking the shit handed out by the fat pig through gritted teeth.

But he doesn't have to take it does he ? Benitez has always played politics with supporters and boards .He could walk, go straight into another job or even claim constructive dismissal.......unless he knew it would be like this all along and he's prepared to put up with it for the cash .

I disagree a bit with what you say regarding Pardew PM, He did fluke that 5th place. That season he was humped a good few times and played off the park on numerous occasions only to scab a lucky goal. If memory serves me right we never properly dominated many teams that season. (which finishing 5th would suggest we would)
re his supposed debts.........depends how much they were and if they were paid off in full or not i guess or could have been paid off in full as part of any settlement. IF he had them of course.

I think we all know how this is going to pan out.
Fatty's a sociopath, bit like the kid in the playground who carries his ball around & wont let anyone else play,no mates.
If Benitez's demands aren't met & he has any integrity he has to walk.
It'll be interesting to know what the fat fuckwit has up his sleeve for plan B & who he'll bring in.Is beardsley still on the payroll?

Fair points mate.
I just wish everyone would judge Benitez with the same measure.

I wish some fucker would fluke us a cup

I certainly wouldn't be looking for reasons why if it happened

Yes, Pardew fluked the 5th place. I know I got stick for saying he had a benign fixture list but when you look back, the team was afforded good start and a couple of opportunities to gain momentum. Add in inherited players like ben Arfa and lucky signings in Ba, Cabaye and Cisse, Pards had some support from Carr at his best.

As for Rafa, it has been good to see a genius at work. He has added value to players and developed them. His rotation has left him with a fit squad at the key time. The Man City game was a huge turning point.

He is much more than a manager and has identified himself with a unique challenge.

I suspect that he knows more about potential bidders for the club than Ashley does. If we are not taken over and Ashley refuses to cough up the cash, then Rafa can walk with his head held high. He has given it a go.

For those of us who value strategy, this season has been an education and Rafa has really shown his worth.

There's always been this underlining feeling of 'picking up the scraps' when it comes to signing players. The players you mentioned Rexn, Ben Arfa 'turned up, at Newcastle without permission to talk to the club (or any other club) about a possible transfer. Add to that, after the shocking tackle by De Jong he was never the same player on return, We signed Demba Ba after he failed a medical at Stoke because of his dodgy knees and no one else would take a chance on him. Cabaye came here on the understanding that should a bigger club coming calling then he would become available. I remember one occasion when he didn't play away at Man City because 'he was in the wrong frame of mind'. And Cisse we paid £9.3m for his services which was a decent wedge at the time. Whether his form dipped as a result of a relationship he was having with a local ex miss Newcastle or being photographed in a casino after saying the sponsor on his team shirt was against his religion is anybody guess.
The club has been a shambles for years and I doubt it, although I would love to think so, that Rafa can sort it out. If he had the support from Charnley and above then he wouldn't be shopping in the bargain basement ala Joselu and loan signings. The next couple of weeks may prove crucial.
