it's important we don't lose. draw wouldn't be a disaster but would be underwhelming. obviously a comprehensive 0-2 will add weight to the idea we are capable of progressing.
Beat Wolves in the following game and a draw looks good, lose vs Wolves and it won't look enough.

Honestly I see this one as a huge banana skin game, and would take a draw now if offered. I don't think Southampton are going to be of massive quality, but they are still riding high and haven't had their newly promoted soul crushed by the Man Citys, Arsenals and Liverpools of the league yet.

Yes, a return of 1 or 2 points from these opening 2 fixtures would be a very poor effort
Looking at our first 4 games I’d say 6 or 7 points would be par for the course. Anything less a major disappointment

That’s a huge point. I would assume that newly promoted sides get a lot of their points at the start of the season so whatever we get at this stage is good, providing we get something.

If you look at all three promoted sides, none of them disgraced themselves against top half EPL opposition. It will take time, injuries and results for that to start to fade and it’s the matches we play after that happens that we need to be winning.

Don’t get me wrong, I will be as narked as anyone if we don’t win at the weekend but while I am thinking clearly I know that a point away from home isn’t a bad thing.

agree. that's why it's important not to lose. we need to be very professional and patient in this one. probably suits us they might think they will have more of the ball than they will get. might make them a bit more open and not just park the bus.

They have to be looking at this game as being winnable - a team who have struggled to avoid relegation in the last two seasons and who are notoriously shit at defending set pieces and not exactly great away from home.

although there has been a huge amount of navel gazing, still think the boremouth goal was pretty lucky. it's as much about the performance for me as the result. if we perform, we should get the result tho.

yea totally agree and just another reason why the performance is important. we need to show we have dealt with that.

not entirely sure we have tho. let's see.

Why spend £12m on an international CB of note then not play him? Does Milko come in at Boly expense? Boly best player, when played. Murilllo then? Doubt that. Back three? Possible. One. In midfield ? Three up front. If wingbacks do we need wingers? Do we start conservative, quieten down crowd and bring speed on late on? Dilemmas.

You can't drop Boly

He is our best defender

3 centre backs works for me

But chopping and changing formations and systems isn't ideal IMO

FFS Wolf it's probably time to change the record. We know you fancy 3 at the back, you've only mentioned it 50 times a day for the last 6 weeks.

I think Milenkovic comes in for Boly, to keep Boly fresh and ready off the bench and limit injury risk. Willy is more likely to have to come in and out of the side if he's the main pairing, and there's a lot to be said for stability.

Now it's debatable if that happens away at Southampton or if Nuno waits a week for the home game with Wolves to swap them out.

Southampton really are playing 2 false number 9s.

Their midfield were able to compete with Newcastle.

It's going to be a tough place to go to because they are still riding the crest of a wave and have come out of last weekends fixture with encouragement.

We lose and I'm worried that the vultures will start coming out for nuno.

I think having 3 at the back for all away games can make sense, and for certain home games. But understand the rationale for not adopting this strategy also

I would be absolutely stunned if Boly is rested tomorrow

I think that's where we might surprise them tho. our midfield is pretty snappy these days and we actually control periods of games. I do see us as a very different proposition from forest of last season first half. if we can weather the early storm I'm hoping we can impose ourselves a bit.
