Premier League Match Thread: Newcastle United Vs Nottingham Forest, sponsored by memories of better times (six weeks ago)

What is becoming clear, and probably masked last season because of our defensive solidity along with Wood having a stonker, is we don't have goals in midfield.
Yesterday's match had MGW, Ando and Yates who got 9 goals between them last season. Play Sangaré and it doesn't move the dial.
We are massively reliant on Wood and wingers cutting in. How easy is this to defend against?
Our recruitment in the summer added Luis which [should] improve us, but when he's not around we don't score.

Wood is certainly out of sorts, Sels was better but the whole side is obviously lacking structure - although, we did look a little better defensively in the first half, but the subs added to the confusion.

We made 4 changes yesterday, but we ended up with 2 right wingers (Bakwa & Hutchinson) getting in each others way.

Penalty for them was a stonewaller, could have been a foul on MGW for their first but once ref hadn't given it, it wasn't being overturned.
it was a pen sadly, unfortunate for Anderson as he received the past and first touch wasnt great then realised the danger and tried to clear it but missed the ball, if he had at least clipped the ball first it wouldnt have been a pen.

these things happen when confidence and luck is low

But lets not forget we dont judge CDMs for goals

They are to stop opposition, link defence to midfield. If they can create a goal its a bonus. Let alone score a goal

We rarely get goals them from our attacking midfielders as it is
We count players who play in midfield if we are counting goals from our midfield.

I was just pointing out that he had a good scoring record before coming to Forest which would suggest that he isnt currently playing to his strengths.
