Premier League Match Thread: Liverpool Vs Nottingham Forest, Sponsored by the trial of the century

Being ex military where we had a bar in the block and did side work for crates for Friday drinks..I spent numerous years basically a functioning alcoholic by all the doctors ideals

It’s amazing how normal it can become

Added to that rugby at the weekends..

Now i may go 2-3 weeks or even months without a drink and I’m ok with that.

Diabetic makes it easier but getting old is shit

Its only shit if you let it be.

Sure, exercise is a lot more painful; but I have always found exercise painful, although its no longer pain from being kicked and punched, its your body telling you to stop kidding yourself you are 20 years younger than what you are.

The key thing is to remain motivated, which I have never had a problem with.

Still get up early every morning to get some exercise in, if its only a walk, and try and get four sessions in the evenings, but that gets difficult with all of the travelling I do, and then golf at the week ends.

The feeling after a good work out is unbeatable; I struggle to comprehend how people manage without exercise, but plenty do, and some are as fit as fiddles.

Nice work and keep it up

I do CrossFit 3 times a week, play once or twice a week at 54. Can’t play with the CrossFit regime and I don’t want to stop.

I do like nice wine though at the weekend. Tomorrow me and 8 mates are off on our annual cottage weekend in North Ontario

Kayaking, hiking, golf and yes there will be drinks. I will be off it for 2/3 weeks when I get back!

We should start a mental health/physical health thread on here maybe?

Might be good to help and encourage each other I think in good and bad times without the football politics or normal politics shite between everyone?

It's good reading what others have faced, are facing and doing well with I think?

Learn from and help each other a bit for those who want to talk about stuff like that?

Should we start our own mental health/physical health thread on here ?

Keep everything in there positive?

What do you guys think?

I certainly wouldn’t be adverse. You can just tell from the last couple of pages how the ‘vibe’ changes to a more positive, encouraging tone as opposed to the bickering in other threads. Let’s face it we all face challenges in our lives, some quite severe ones as well and whilst some people might not feel comfortable opening up it still might help if they read others posts to let them realise they’re perhaps not the only one suffering in a particular manner.

I've found what I've read above from others very positive

And like they always say "it's good to talk"

I'm happy to start a thread next 24 hrs and we can see if it develops into anything worthwhile?

Mark Crossley on his twitter is really positive about the benefits of walking

As much for mental health as physical health

(Edit need to take that back as just looked and his twitter seems to have been taken over promoting supreme cbd lately?)
I'm still attempting to recover from multiple serious surgeries last year and walking is basically the only thing I can do.
Being a loner I tend to go alone and just walk for 4-5 miles with some loud music on in my earphones, faster and faster over time.
Its great for stopping me getting more unfit while I continue to recover and for mental health there isn't much better. Also you get to see new places and have some 'no-screen' time.

Good idea i reckon.

As well as the other ailments that have mentioned I also have rheumatoid arthritis & when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer I had to stop the treatment for that as it is incompatible with cancer. Hence I can only walk about 100 yards before I have to stop to rest my back & hips. However I can cycle as far as you like as I suppose its not weight bearing so usually do about 4 miles each morning, and just don't feel right if I haven't done it & of course it gets you out of the house into your own space for a while.

Guys for those interested who've already contributed above I've started a thread for this kind of chat. Would be great if you join in and maybe copy and paste some of what you've already said in that thread and then we can see if it develops into something worthwhile or not for those who join in

I'll stick with this thread for now - at 72 I probably should drink less alcohol, but I signed up with Naked Wines so every few months I get another case (which then vanishes at an alarming rate and I promise myself to go easy on the next one). In between cases, 10 pm closing time for local shops limits my consumption.

I also mean to walk more as I enjoy countryside walks, but Gedling Country Park starts with a new road to cross and a stiff uphill trudge, so I rarely get round to it. Plenty of exercise in the garden, like keeping a long high privet hedge in check twice a year.

My ex drags me out to Wollaton Park now and again, or finds cheap train tickets which lead to walks from Fox House near Sheffield, some lovely countryside there. Several miles with some scrambling on rugged trails - I must be reasonably fit to still manage these.

So far my body's held together well. My sister's had one knee replacement and is heading for another. But I sense that things might fall apart quite rapidly - so Buddhism offers the helpful advice that death isn't such a big deal as you get to come back and do it all again in a different body (Hindu orthodoxy) but if you see through the whole charade you can step off the endless treadmill.

Liverpool 2-1 up at the San Siro against AC Milan.

They have more or less the same team out there as they played against us, but have actually rested Robertson and Diaz for this game

Just noticed that Sporting Lisbon signed that young Danish lad we were tentatively linked with, Conrad Harder.

He looks a real prospect

The idea to start a mental health thread on here has come 10 years too late.

We should have had one when this place was like a Psychiatrists wet dream; unfortunately most of the needy have fled to other forums

Looks like Nuno and Forest are living rent free in Arnie Slot's head right now. How dare we play well and beat Liverpool.

The sheer arrogance of this

Wish we could play them every week!!

The PL teams think they are playing Forest of past two seasons. Liverpool were made to look bad by Forests hard work and diligence then speed and accuracy. A good result at Brighton and some may take notice but doubt it. League needs a shake up.

See Rhodri is complaining about number of games successful teams will have to play with extra’s now expected in Champions League. Can see the big teams dropping points against mid clubs. Shocks could be more frequent. League needs a shake up.

Everton lose at home again.

The idea of expending games in Champions League was to raise quality of games. If you want to watch rank bad errors fit for U9’s team, review Villas second goal. Some on here bemoan womens football? They were never this bad.
