Premier League Match Thread: Burnley Vs Nottingham Forest, sponsored by the Book of Job

“Also Nicolas Dominguez, we have taken the chance to solve some issues he has been carrying in this final part of the season. He went to surgery and will not be available. Some others are out, but we will keep it (quiet) for now.”

Free pizza day at work today, then Forest tomorrow.
After that, my little local team is playing in their big final. Bless them. Still, it'd be nice to see Bolton doing well again :D
Then boxing and UFC.

What a weekend that is.

Not to throw a spanner in the works chap, but your 24 hours early for the Forest game.

Good luck to Southampton, and Russell Martin tonight.

Always admired his application to excellence, and the process, culture, maturity and xG that young Martin expouses.

RM just exlaimed "Logic, intelligance and feeling".
Keep the principles front and centre, and control the midfield.

Love it, Go Saints!

Did you know, Radiohead were formally known as "On A Friday"...and its Friday today!

What a time to be alive.

Also, TF Pope has restarted his match threads.
The previous week's efforts were woeful, lets be honest.

Hopefully, no more paddies are thrown and we can bask in reverential silence at the alter of godlike prose.

funny you should mention godlike prose- seems painting is not the only talent the big man displays. Seems like he has also written some lyrics for a Greek singer he is allegedly seeing on the side.

this one goes out to pebble

But I suppose could be said to have made Forest safe......... According to this, Forest are in nett profit from VAR: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/sto...-decisions-affect-premier-league-club-2023-24

But that does not suit the general narrative, so despite the fact that they have been studying it, it is probably wrong.
I think a few would disagree with that table

However most of our gripes this season have been with issues not always covered by VAR or ones that VAR weren’t allowed to rule on

Boly sending off, Liverpool drop ball, etc

Drill down, and the decisions in our favour aren't match-changing (except for the first one).

Game: Burnley (H; Sept. 18)
Incident: Lyle Foster goal disallowed for handball in the buildup by Sander Berge, 76 minutes - FOR
Lyle Foster sent off for violent conduct on Ryan Yates, 90+4 minutes - FOR

Game: Liverpool (A; Oct. 29)
Cody Gakpo goal disallowed for offside, 90+3 minutes - FOR

Burnley's disallowed goal was VAR working correctly. Berge cushioned the ball with his arm, made McKenna look a fool, and set up a goal, Fine margins maybe, but handball. The stoppage time sending off was neither here nor there, like the Gakpo disallowed goal when we'd already lost at Anfield.

All this is beside the point. Our main gripe with VAR is its failure to alert refs to a series of clear penalties we weren't awarded. To add insult to injury, here's the one we did get this season:

Game: Brighton (H; Nov. 25)
Incident: Penalty awarded (scored by Morgan Gibbs-White) for a foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi by Jack Hinshelwood, 70 minutes - FOR

Which ignores the fact that the ref had given Brighton a softer penalty and ignored our shout for a similar challenge. VAR was just doing its job by asking him to look at the screen - why didn't this happen again, several times, since that game?
