Premier League Match Thread: Burnley Vs Nottingham Forest, sponsored by the Book of Job

Pope John XXIII

Vital Football Legend
For those of you familiar with your Biblical history, you will recall that Job was the ancient, highly respected man of God who whose faith was incessently tested by points deductions, managerial changes, African national tournaments, injuries and diabolical VAR decisions.

Eventually Job asked "Lord, why doth thy forsake me?" And Richard Masters replied that it was because he was an expendable way of staving off an Independent regulator.

I have no feelings about Burnley either way, so long as they do their job on Sunday and don't win heavily. I've been to their ground a few times, I've seen us win 3-0 there with Gareth Taylor scoring (now read the Job story again and tell me which one is more believable) and seen us lose loads of times.

They have the worst home record in the league, I'm pleased they have nothing to play for and I just want Forest to do their job and stay in the Premier League without the ignominy of the worst collapse in English history.

Burnley Style

Yeah, I'll take that

They have a bit more possession than us (46% to 40%), which is a good thing, since then having the ball is a prime route to other teams creating chances against them. They score fewer goals (40 to our 47) and concede far more. Their passing accuracy is about the same as ours, but we win more in the air.

They play the Kompany way, which at this level is akin to asking Marinakis to paint the Mona Lisa.

Burnley formation.

Burnley will be playing

It will look like this, with the worst keeper I have seen in a Forest shirt playing - who somehow is a massive upgrade on "the other guy".

Thankfully, the guy who gave us loads of problems in the home game, Koleosho, is injured. Unfortunately, their striker who has scored against us twice (but only had 5 all season) will be fit.

We have to be careful, as this basic formation caused us loads of problems at home.

The top strikers are Lyle Foster (5) and Zeki Amdouni (5).

Foster is young at 23, South African and can play on the wing or centre forward. Don't know much more than that, although he has 3 assists.

Amdouni has 6 goals in all competitions and 1/3 of them have been at the City Ground. Zemdouni has some quality on set pieces but is a bit weak in the air.

Top PL scorer is Jacob Bruun Larsson with 6. Kompany picks positions by tombola and Larsson has played in 6 different places. He's more of a wing forward and quite a direct free kick threat with a good cross.

Wilson Odobert played up front at Spurs. He is 19, French and has 3 premier league goals and a couple of assists. He has also played in 6 different positions this season, so maybe Kompany will pick him for goal against us.

There is also David Fofana, a 21 year old Ivorian with four goals. Shooting from distance is his thing.

Occasionally they may play Jay Rodriguez, who is 58 now and has scored loads of goals against us over the last 40 years or so. He has a couple of goals and brings the average age of the attack right up.

We know Sander Berge, as the unlucky recipient of the only lucky refereeing decision we've had to for us all season. He caused us problems at our place and has 33 appearances, so they like him. I didn't rate him for Blades but he has done well for Burnley.

Next to him in the middle is likely to be Josh Brownhill, who has been with them for five years. Not exactly a DCM but a proper old fashioned CM who can pass really well, hit through balls, hold the ball and defend well.

Last game they played Josh Cullen there, who at 28 is one of the more experienced players. An Irish DCM, he is one of the stalwarts of their title winning season.

Kompany mixes it up, so who knows who is ok the wing? Sometimes it's Larsson. Sometimes it is Vitinho, a fullback. Sometimes it is the Icelander Johann Gudmundsson (good at direct free kicks and crosses)

In defence it is generally Dara O'Shea, the 25 year old Irishman who is decent in the air, and Maxime Esteve, the 21 year old Frenchman who is good at interceptions.

Full backs will be Vitinho or Assignon (RB) or Charlie Taylor.

Form

If I showed this for any other set of 10 games it would look shit. However, they have had a run of decent games and done ok.

There are a fair few draws here, which will do us fine. They have lost the last two to decent sides.

Most of all though, they have only won 2 home games all season. They will want to go out well, but they also want to just get this fucking season out of the way (don't we all?)

Who's the ****** in the black?

Graham Scott has not reffed either club and seems to move between championship and premier league. His last game for us was the 1-1 draw with Man City last season, and before that our 5-1 win over Swansea. No complaints from those

Weather
My apologies for any offence caused by this segment, but it is going to be a beautiful day to (hopefully) secure our Premier League status

I really appreciate you Pope. I can never be arsed to read these but I imagine some people get a lot from them. Must take ages.

Thank you for making an effort - unlike SOME (Ingy)

doesn't really matter anymore. I won't be getting twitchy until we are 4 nil down meself.

would be nice to play with a bit of freedom and without pressure. Who knows we could even go crazy and enjoy an away win...

much better than the usual dross.

Oh , and how is Luther's van chap?

Burnley have (currently jointly with Sheffield United) the worst home record in the League. Forest should expect to win there, and give them the actual worst home record, which bearing in mind that the presence of Sheffield United, would be some ignominy.

Also, just get rid of Burnley from this division. Burnley are a horrible club, with horrible fans. A (non- white) friend of mine who used to follow West Bromwich Albion home and away said that Burnley was the only place where she got racial abuse, and that it was not just an isolated individual. I also went to a play- off final with my Sheffield United supporting mate, and Burnley fans through coins at us at half time, for no reason at all other than their stupid aggressive ways.

Just arrived in Spain for a weeks break - not even sure that I can be bothered to watch this one!
This season has left me totally drained emotionally - so many controversies, many lows and a few highs
Season over - job done
Let's see what the summer brings in terms of signings/departures
When do they announce the fixtures for next season?

Yes this season has been anything but enjoyable one of those where anything that can go wrong has done quite spectacularly in some cases. I still get angry about the Liverpool game, and still think the Boly red card was one of the worst refereeing deci I’ve ever seen. Hoping for better next season

Leave IT out chap? Don't worry, I am listening to OK Computer so I do not require the helpdesk chap!
Did you know, Radiohead were formally known as "On A Friday"...and its Friday today!

What a time to be alive.

Also, TF Pope has restarted his match threads.
The previous week's efforts were woeful, lets be honest.

Hopefully, no more paddies are thrown and we can bask in reverential silence at the alter of godlike prose.
