Premier League Match Thread: Brighton and Hove Albion Vs Nottingham Forest, sponsored by RESPECT

This is a collectors item, more refs from the panel are in favour of MGW not receiving a second yellow 3-2, apparently

The decision to send off Morgan Gibbs-White in Nottingham Forest's 2-2 draw at Brighton was split 3-2, with the majority believing official Robert Jones was wrong to dismiss the midfielder.

Gibbs-White, who has been charged by the Football Association for his reaction, was shown a second yellow card after an 83rd-minute challenge on Joao Pedro, although three of the panel felt it fell below the threshold for a second caution.

Two panellists thought "the intensity of the challenge is too high and it's a reckless tackle showing disregard to the consequences for the opponent".

I saw this on BBC

So what happens now?

I've googled all about the key incidents panel and can't establish if the second yellow card now gets rescinded or this decision just impacts referee training and match allocations for referees

"Not sure what the use of a panel saying a second/first yellow is incorrect is. Can’t un-do a decision, can’t rescind, what happened to “in the opinion of…There’s transparency, and there’s dropping their employees in it."

"The media clearly wants controversy and argument above all else. They could not care less about what is “right”, what the referee viewpoint is, etc. They want the officials to be a punching bag, and then we wonder why grassroots referees are treated as they are."

(Found the above comments from October 2023 on a refs chat forum which suggests the second yellow won't be rescinded despite the panels findings?)

I've also found a second yellow against Jota at a Spurs v Liverpool game the panel disagreed with. But by the time the panel met for that one and disagreed with it he had already served his ban v Brighton!

I've got a horrible feeling the panel decision on MGW won't make fook all difference to him playing v Fulham

Can't find anywhere where a panels finding sees a red or yellow card rescinded. Doesn't mean it won't happen. But can't find anything positive from my Google searching

Edit the Jota one the panel did meet on time before the Brighton game. Did rule in favour of Jota. And he still served the ban.

So basically the panel decision is pretty meaningless for MGW getting the ban or not

You would hope they will not extend the ban due to the charge for his reaction chap.

Yellow cards cannot be rescinded or appealed anyway.

MGW will be missing for Fulham no matter what. We may have abother PGMOL apology letter to add to our library

Have you heard that Moreno is out?
No, but the tackle that left him limping was awful. He caught him at mid thigh and raked him down the leg, the back of the knee and the length of his calf. Because of the angle of the lower leg the calf injury was more severe. From that moment on he struggled to push off and pace over 5 yards much diminished. Result was failure to close down cross resulting in equaliser and coming off at half time.

Minimum is bruising but muscular and tendon damage is possible. With ice and time he may recover but was an awful foul that was glossed over by ref, linesman, 4th official, commentators. If it was Rugby, both codes, he would of been cited and red carded after the game. In internationals he would have been cited during game and brought to refs attention. Why didn’t VAR intervene.

He may play, he may be out for a lot longer?

The panel has no standing. It is an internal body to assist refs in continual improvement. Is working well.

Footage has come to light of Anthony Taylor initially saying “he got the ball”. The tackle and AT response appear to initiate a response from Brighton bench. Taylor then states “it’s a yellow” which he repeats a further two times, resulting in Jones changing his mind.

Brighton and their manager was fuming because of tackle but also Taylor is only allowed to get involved if yellow or red card. Him saying “he got the ball” was against guidelines. AT suddenly appears to realise this, on protest and changes it to “its a yellow”, so he is within guidance.

Nuno is rightfully annoyed.

AT at Liverpool this week. No one has officiated more games at Liverpool than AT. He likes them and they like him. After a week of yellow cards AT will be happy with a quiet weekend. He should be retired.

Not retired

Sacked

And that footage used as an example to other refs of how not to be influenced

Moreno and Aina - who you said was also out - both trained today.

Nuno will also be in the dugout on Saturday.
