Premier League ‘B’ teams could still be entered into next season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after Football League clubs voted to have an official proposal drawn up.

At a meeting last month, clubs from League One and Two decided to keep the prospect of second-string Premier League teams entering the competition alive.

Of the League Two clubs only AFC Wimbledon objected to the idea and a formal proposal is now likely to be discussed when Football League clubs next meet in June.

FA Chairman Greg Dyke proposed the idea of bringing 'B' teams into the league pyramid itself in June last year but was told that Football League clubs had 'no appetite' for such a move.

How is playing the youth in the johnstone paint trophy every now and then going to help the national side. If they get knocked out early doors then what lol. We need something where they are playing week in week out. Not just PL sides either.

That gave me a better understanding thanks.

There needs to be a proper ressie league, how many more ******* silly ideas are the clowns that run our game going to come up with. The prem has plenty of money so its not a cost thing anymore.
Make cants like paulinho etc etc get of their arses and put some of their fat salaries to use.
Its a ******* joke...... the panel that was set up to look into future development..... put forward the ressie league run on a proper format as the way forward and its been ignored.
This is just getting boring in the extreme now WTF is going on ?

Dog,

it's not going to happen, the reserves league is never coming back - in the end it turned it no better than a training session as both clubs didn't want their returning stars or their second stringers being injured in it.

So we have to look for competitive options elsewhere.

Thing is Ex if we treat it like a proper league.... where young players are traveling the night before and gaining all the experiences that go along with preparing for a match day surely it can only be benificial in their long term developement as will playing with seasoned pros.
The prem is awash with money now so its not a finacial problem.... like it was before........ makes no sense to me.
All the Ex pros on that panel recommended it, so why are they being ignored

Because first team squads are now only 25 players (the PL brought it down) the PL is now a competition that demands rotation - the pace of the game, the hardness of the pitches, the wear and tear injuries - the value of the players, the restrictions that ground keepers want on playing surfaces now, plus the financial costs of putting on loss making games have all been examined countless times by the clubs and decided that it isn't the way forward..

What they all want now is a format for their developing players that is competitive, but perhaps ends the loan merry-go-round that some see as giving some clubs huge unfair advantages.

The PL is awash with money; but most clubs are still losing money...and we all know where it's going.

The 25 man squad thing is a total waste of time...... it was meant to stop clubs stocking up players..... well that aint worked has it.
Truth of the matter is a lot of continental clubs do not run ressie sides and so some of these players see it as beneath them to play in those type of games.
The u21s games are not competitive enough and the format is a joke imo.
How can a team that finishes 4th still win the league pathetic....... part of a players development is learning to win and lose..... also playing games every week is a mental test.
21s games a weeks apart sometimes.
Having players playing in the style of the 1st team week in week out can only benefit the player and the club when it comes to the transition to the 1st team imo.
Monies theres start to develope the players then we wouldnt need average overseas players like paulinho etc stopping our own kids path to 1st team football.

Without rehashing the points - totally in agreement with ded - these ideas are all to benefit the few.... I used to go to the reserves game quite often when young - enjoyed them a great deal....

And that's the dynamic tension dog; home grown opportunities v bought in players - Tim was wrong on many things, but he was right about one - we all do love a big money signing....

As for the rest; the reserve league stuff is all ancient history, and do agree something has to happen - personally, I'd be all in favour of the current proposal to allow PL clubs to buy lower league clubs/run proper nursery clubs in lower leagues...

As you well know, agents and players rule the roost now, and when you buy them in, every club dances to their tune - and they don't want reserve football, you know and I know it and I've listened to enough agents to know why they won't have it anymore.

Thing is Ex do we as a club make big money quality signings....... and i mean quality not a price tag...?
