Predictions & Match Thread: England v Colombia

Well every other game in England's side of the draw has finished 1-1 then penalties so got to stand a chance unfortunately. Will be tight in any case

It's hard to tell how good we are. But we have played consistently well under Southgate and seem to be improving. it will be very tight,
I can imagine we will go off like a train for the first 25 minutes, all over them. If it's still 0-0 the game will settle down to the usual cat and mouse frustration. 2-1 to us or to them.

With our defence, can't see us getting through. Best chance ever of getting through to final. But as always we will blow it. 2-1 Columbia after extra time :(

I am actually fairly optimistic however allied to that there is that nagging doubt that the National team so often lets us down! Maybe this World Cup will be different but then again I have thought that before as well!

There is no doubt we have a golden opportunity in this most magnificently unpredictable World Cup but there again lies the problem it has been so unpredictable, now is that good or bad I don't know .

So in essence I have no idea but as always I live in hope but have no expectation :grinning:

Our side of the draw is full of 'mid table' teams. The games could all go either way, so probably ET and pens, with Columbia pinching it.

3-1 England, doubt we've ever had a better chance to get to at least the Semi's. I hope they take it!

So people keep saying. Maybe nobody but me remembers 1990 when England's knock out opponents were Belgium and Cameroon.

That team had:

A way better goalkeeper than the current one (Shilton)
A better defence than the current one (Butcher, Wright, Walker, Pearce, Parker)
More creative midfield, correction FAR more creative midfield (Gascoigne, Waddle, Barnes, Platt)
And as much as I loathe Gary Lineker surely nobody is going to try and tell me Kane is a (much) better goalscorer than him?

And yet In both those games England were very fortunate to progress. Quite why there is such a surge of confidence about this defies all previous knowledge.

And for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction

If you read All Played Out, Chris Waddle tells the story that the staff basically assumed they had a bye to the semi's after learning they were playing Cameroon in Italia 90, talk about hubris and arrogance.

their 10 not even in the squad.

wonder if we will get at them down the wings and force them to concede corners. the +A+ team has scored 4 goals and a pen from 10 corners.
