Potter to Brighton latest

Everybody wants our young players, now it’s our manager. The Press are having a field day with this latest development. Not content with battering us every day with headlines about our young players leaving, attention has now turned to our manager. Celtic, West Brom and now Brighton, Swans fans are fed up of all the speculation, why don’t they just leave us alone.

“Potter, who made his name with Swedish club Ostersund, is only 11 months into a three-year deal at Swansea but is understood to be interested in the Brighton job.”

“Brighton and Hove Albion have opened talks with Swansea over manager Graham Potter, following the sacking of Chris Hughton.”

“It would be a disaster” - Swans fans plead with Graham Potter to stay

“Swansea’s Potter leading candidate to replace Hughton at Brighton”

“Graham Potter expected to succeed Chris Hughton at Brighton”

“Swansea boss favourite to replace Hughton at Brighton.”

They're all over it like a rash as usual. I've seen plenty of conflicting reports but it's nowhere near as a done deal as some so called journalists are making out and he wasn't there for an interview today like some said.

Swansea will hold out for £2m compensation for Potter. Rejected an initial approach from Brighton. Wouldn't expect that fee to be a major barrier.

This is very worrying news for Swansea City fans. Potter is a good manager and deserves credit for the way he was able to guide the Swans to a top-half finish in the Championship this season, with a fairly limited budget.

Losing their manager would be a major blow for the Swans and a move to the Premier League would be too difficult for Potter to turn down.

Brighton are on the verge of announcing the appointment of Graham Potter and he hopes to bring a star player with him.
Potter has informed Swansea’s American owners that he wants to make the move to Sussex, with Swansea refusing to stand in his way as long as Brighton pay the £3m compensation clause that exists in his contract. At this stage, we understand that is the only thing standing in the way of a deal to bring him in. However, we can also reveal that Potter has told both clubs he wants to bring star winger Dan James with him to the south coast.

Statement from Cath Dyer of the Swans Supporters' Trust:

"Obviously we're aware that the club have rejected an approach from Brighton to speak with Graham Potter.
He's done a fantastic job for us and he's well valued. We hope that he's going to stay and carry on with the project he's started.
Realistically, it'd be a huge disappointment if we were to lose him, but as with all of the fans, we're hopeful he will stay with us.
Under the circumstances, he's brought the young players through, some of whom are playing the first professional seasons of their careers, he's done an outstanding job with them and he's been like a father figure to them.
They're developing under him and his backroom team. They're all working together and obviously they want to play for Swansea, that's come through Graham and his team so everyone is hopeful he will stay.
Relegation has hit us badly. We lost a lot of our main players last year, but the ones who have come through this year, huge congratulations to them with the job they're doing. So to lose Graham, it would be catastrophic because you're starting again from scratch.
That's not what we want at the club. We need the manager to continue to keep developing and to keep showing us, the club, the fans and the players that he's here to do a job and get us to where we want to be.
The Swansea way is coming back, let's keep working on that and see where he can lead us.
Graham has said numerous times in press conferences that it was a big wrench leaving Sweden.
It was hard for his family coming to Wales and he's admitted himself that his son has struggled at times. But they've started to settle now and we're hopeful Graham wants to stay at Swansea.
His team has developed and he's shown exactly what he can do with the club. And he's admitted himself that he likes it at Swansea City so hopefully he will stay and take us where we can go."

Ironic how this Brighton manager’s job has come about and ultimately affected us through our neighbours Cardiff failing to stay up. They needed to win their games against Fulham and Man U to relegate Brighton instead of themselves. They lost at Fulham and won at Man U. Having struggled for goals all season they signed Emiliano Sala in January to get them those goals (he was leading scorer for Nantes over three seasons). His death in a plane crash led them to continue their struggle for goals for the remainder of the season, as the PL refused to let them sign a replacement.
Brighton as a Championship club would not have been as attractive a proposition to any suitors.

The Brighton Argus are reporting that Potter remains the man candidate but that they are assessing two other options.
They also state that relations between the two clubs is good, and with Potter’s agent.
“Albion remain confident of bringing in Potter and his coaching staff, despite having an initial approach knocked back. The process of securing clearance to open negotiations with Potter has been left in a holding pattern by the fact Swansea’s joint owners are on opposite coasts of the USA, one in Los Angeles.”
They state that compensation should not be a problem.

Latest:
Swansea City remain in talks with the Englishman amid the ongoing interest from Brighton.
The Seagulls made Potter their No. 1 target after making the bold call to sack Chris Hughton on Monday morning.
They have already had an approach to speak with Potter turned down by Swansea, although Brighton are expected to up their efforts to take the 43-year-old to the Amex Stadium. It is believed there has been no official follow-up approach from the Seagulls.
Swansea held lengthy talks with Potter on Wednesday, and it’s understood that discussions between the club and their manager remain ongoing.
It is understood that Potter - who during the course of the 2018/19 campaign has repeatedly stated that he views the job in SA1 as a long-term project - is seeking assurances over what the future holds at the club.
He has endured two difficult transfer windows at the Liberty Stadium to date, with no fewer than 19 players departing while only six have been recruited.

Latest:
Swansea have offered Graham Potter a new improved contract in the hope of persuading him to reject Brighton’s interest and stay.
Brighton’s initial approach was rejected on Tuesday and they are yet to return with a second bid to make him Chris Hughton's successor.
It is understood that Potter is happy at Swansea and could be tempted to continue his rebuilding job at the Liberty Stadium, despite being attracted by the prospect of managing in the Premier League.
Potter still has two years left on his current contract, which includes a release clause of £2m, which Brighton are prepared to pay.

Brighton are preparing to make an approach for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder after Swansea City's rebuff over Graham Potter, according to reports.
Meanwhile Swans bosses have been involved in discussions with Potter these last few days, where he is understood to have been seeking assurances over what the future holds for the club.
Potter was at the Portsmouth v Sunderland promotion play-off semi final match on Thursday night, accompanied by Swans Head of Recruitment, Kyle Macaulay, and thought to be scouting potential signings for the Swans, in particular Matt Clarke, the Pompey centre back. Ironically, Portsmouth is only 50 miles from Brighton!

Potter has gone.
I hope the owners are happy as the next stage of their systematic destruction of our club unfolds.
Massive disappointment for all Swans fans today as Graham Potter is poised to become the new Brighton manager after our erstwhile owners gave the Premier League club permission to open formal talks. Swansea had staged a last-ditch attempt to keep Potter with an offer of a significantly improved contract, but the 43-year-old informed the club on Friday that he wanted to leave. Brighton have agreed to pay Swansea compensation of almost £3million to cover Potter, his assistant Billy Reid, coach Bjorn Hamberg and head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay.

The hedge fund owners will be rubbing their hands with glee tonight at the £3mill compensation coming their way.
The whole affair leaves a bad taste in the mouth as yet another manager leaves at the first opportunity.
Somehow you always think this manager or that player is different but in reality they’re all the same, kiss the badge then kiss my a— when the first offer comes in.

I doubt it, they'll be devastated, now they've got to do some work and employ a load of staff again.

McBurnie not too happy with Potter leaving, according to this tweet:

McBurnie Mafia
@McBurnieMafia

Bit off this one. Spoke about commitment and security for his family. Joins a club who just sacked one of the most dedicated managers in the prem who escaped relegation only because HUD and FUL were woeful. Not sure where the “long term” pledge has gone.... #Swansea#Potter

Why would Potter say he wanted to leave for Brighton without there being any contact with him. So then he wanted to leave Swansea with no idea what Brighton were offering him, don’t think so?

He or his representatives must have talked with Brighton to find out what the offer was before leaving. Thursday night was the ideal opportunity for him to be illegally tapped up, when he was only a few miles away in Portsmouth scouting players. Friday morning he then told Swansea he was leaving.

It matters little now anyway as another manager bites the dust after only ten months in charge. Despite all his promises of being here for the long term, he has left the club in disarray at the first offer of another job, and fans to reflect on once again being taken in by a smooth talking operator.

The only experienced football man left is recently appointed Chairman Trevor Birch, who is still feeling his feet in the job. He will have to hold the fort and has a massive job in finding a suitable replacement coaching team who are willing to come here.

Potters Press Conference at Brighton after being unveiled as their new manager:

“I’d like to start by thanking everybody at Swansea City, not least the owners, chairman, the staff and the players. And especially the wonderful supporters".

And on his decision to join Brighton:

“I was sold by the long-term vision and passion shown by Tony Bloom, Paul Barber and Dan Ashworth.
The ideas and plans they have for the future of this football club excited me; I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of it.”

Birch commenting on Potter’s departure:

“We received a request from Brighton last week to speak to Graham over the vacant managerial position at the club.

We then spoke to Graham in length over the request. These discussions included the offer of a new improved contract, and certain assurances regarding future squad strengthening. These assurances would have had to sit within our current financial budget, but we were confident that by working together we could build on the excellent progress the team made last season.

We had absolutely no desire to lose the services of Graham after the excellent work he had done over the course of his debut season. We therefore declined Brighton’s initial request to speak to him.

Unfortunately, following those amicable discussions, Graham expressed a desire to challenge himself in the Premier League and we reluctantly allowed him to speak to Brighton after agreeing a compensation package.”
